stravinsky is must hear. also rachmaninoff's piano concertos and tchaikovsky's 5th and 6th symphonies.
...but really, the great thing about classical music is that if a composer is famous its generally for a good reason; because they are good. check out anything from a name you recognise. |

I was wondering if this is true because I have been listening to classical over the last few months mainly.
In metal the more you search the better the music (or at least a lot of the greatest band are little known/underground.Not saying famous bands like Emperor or Opeth are not worthy).

03.10.11 | yeah classical music for some reason just seems more intimidating or something, but its one of the easiest genres as a whole to find good music from. with so much written about its different styles and composers, and the fact that most people would know a fair few pieces from movies or what have you, its surprising that many younger people find it tough to get into. |
Maniac!
03.10.11 | Tchaikovsky and Chopin
seriously. |
LegendofPittman
03.10.11 | Stravinsky rules. So does Bach and Chopin, I haven't listened to any Tchaikovsky yet. |

03.10.11 | I think it's hard to get into because it doesn't exactly follow the song/album formula.
It's easier for a youngster to say "I really dig Road from the album Pink Moon" than "I dig the third movement from Bach's concerto for Harpsichords in D minor".(I dig both!)
The classical music world is sort of a mess for people who are just getting into it.(Unless of course they want to stick to the basics like the four seasons or the moonlight sonata) |
ConsiderPhlebas
03.10.11 | bach's cello suites are brilliant |

03.10.11 | "The classical music world is sort of a mess for people who are just getting into it" totally agree. It's intimidating because there's so much and alot of it is related, composers working with eachother, different eras, love the stuff, grew up on it |
