Spamuelg's Best Of 2008

Narrowing it down to 10 wasn't easy, but I'm pretty happy with how the list turned out in the end. If anybody has any recs, I'll be happy to check 'em out.
1The Flashbulb
Soundtrack To A Vacant Life

Everything you could want to hear from a non-virtuoso (though to say this isn't, on some level, a display of virtuosity is pushing it slightly) instrumental album. One of the only 2 releases this year to contend for a 5 star rating, and though it doesn't quite get there, this is about the strongest 4.5 I've ever rated.
2Cynic
Traced In Air

No explanation needed.
3 Sigur Ros
Me? su? ? eyrum vi? spilum endalaust

Known to most as 'The album that's a f*ckin pain in the ass to pronounce'. A new direction for Sigur Ros brings some beautiful songwriting and a step away from the post-rock genre, if only a slight one. The vocals have never been better, and it's difficult not feel the emotion puring out of every note the band plays. Well worthwhile if you haven't picked it up already.
4The Samuel Jackson Five
Goodbye Melody Mountain

Any other year, this would probably have been the best post-rock release. Unfortunately, Sigur Ros just stole the title from them, despite being an entirely different kind of post-rock. Anyone who's stuck for where to go next should look into these guys - not to mention, of course, that they have just about the best band name ever.
5Protest The Hero
Fortress

On a completely different note, the Canadian metallers have certainly made an impression with potentially the most lively album I've heard this year. As an improvement over Kezia in nearly every way, it's difficult to assume that this band are destined for anything other than greatness after this release.
6Bon Iver
For Emma, Forever Ago
7Nine Inch Nails
Ghosts I-IV
8Firewind
The Premonition
9Fleet Foxes
Fleet Foxes
10TV On The Radio
Dear Science
