luci: luci's decade in electronic: tracks

luci 12.11.19	Quadraluv is different. Every single sound engages and stimulates me; the progression locks my mind into flow for the full runtime, and that’s been true since I first heard it. Like the previous tracks, a strong melody is essential, and this one has become embedded in my brain tissue. It evokes a mixture of intertwined feelings: deep curiosity and mystery; being captured by searching until you lose sight of the destination; the freedom of a directionless life. Whenever I experience these emotions, I hear the melody of Quadraluv in my head. This element is counterbalanced by sighing frequencies, then pushed forward by a percussive motor system. A bassline circulates as gorgeous synth pads flow underneath. The “random” ticks feel intuitive and essential to the track’s logic. It’s a masterpiece of futuristic world-building, capturing what it’s like to be blissfuly adrift. Then there’s the depletion sequence. The movement halts in the final minutes to drain out any remaining sensation. Channeling both a drug comedown and the small death post-climax, it’s one of the most engrossing payoffs I’ve ever heard. Quadraluv is my favorite electronic track. It immerses me like nothing else this decade, with a melody that’s forever engrained in my subconscious. An inimitable journey.
anat 12.11.19	Looking forward to diving into some of these, lots of entries I'm unfamiliar with. Before We Talked is my favourite cut from Lucky Shiner but unless I'm misremembering, it was the album that got me interested in electronic music. Blanck Mass but no Fuck Buttons?
NOTINTHEFACE 12.11.19	I have been waiting for someone to do something like this. I've been in a major electro mood lately and sput just isn't giving up the goods atm as far as recs. 2 is an amazing album but by the time that track comes around I'm usually feeling pretty drained, so it never really grabbed me. On the other hand, Delorean Dynamite and Swing Star would easily make it onto my personal top 10 of the decade.

luci 12.11.19	@boney: I consider ambient drone as electronic, this track is mostly synthesizer. Very spacey and atmospheric, defines "nocturnal" for me. @notintheface: I listen to inspector norse independently. never understood why it's tacked on the album like it's a bonus track

Chortles 12.11.19	gorgeous! that top 20 is mwahh, but i still don't get 7. your description for s.t. is so good, it's very much the first thing to latch onto in the album and it feels so good when it comes. i've said this before but 5 is basically the song that made me love electronic music. good stuff
luci 12.11.19	"Is This Power" was big for me too, my first Field track. 2010 had a pair of LPs that got me into electronic (Four Tet and Caribou). I only started obsessing over the genre from 2017 onwards though.

But what they throw at you ie apparitions off of euphoric tape iii shows something that i cant explain without some furthwr thought

watsonjr 12.13.19	Always enjoy your lists! Our tastes in electronic music seem to align quite a bit. Agree with song choices on 68, 65, 61, 30, 20, 17, 14, 12! That whole AL-90 album is so good it's hard to settle on one track. I differ on some track selections (72, 66, 63, 59, 41, 36, 33, 25, 4) but great list and lots for me to explore. Thanks!

luci 12.23.19	my go-to rec for something like four tet is last decade, telefon tel aviv's fahrenheit fair enough. if you want to hear a four tet album check rounds from this list, i'd try robag wruhme's "venq tolep" and his album thora vukk, rival console's "recovery", laurence guy's "belong" and his album saw you for the first time
