Songs With Great Background Intricacies

Ever had a song you've listened to 100 times, only to find out there is a fully realized part of the song you've never noticed before? A chime part? or maybe an extra guitar thrown in for depth? Sometimes what's hidden under the melodies is just as genius as the melodies themselves. Maaaan, I love that stuff. I'll be adding more as I think of more than the one's on top of my add. Please add suggestions of your own. (List in no particular order)
1Porcupine Tree
Anesthetize

The chime in the first two minutes or so has an extremely simple counter-melody that once you?ve
heard,
changes the entire texture of that part of the song.
2Thrice
Silver Wings

Whether you claim it to be too obviously straightforward or a perfect way to commit the vague texture
of
?air? to music, the bells and chimes that sparkle in the higher registers have almost too many layers to
consciously listen to just one.
3Oceansize
Only Twin

This song is quite the opposite as the first two, as none of the parts are mixed into the background.
The
song has so many active parts; it?s easy to gloss over them. The forceful nostalgia found in how the
parts
interact with each other to create the contradicting feelings of anxiety and comfort until the incredibly
satisfying explosion of sound.
4Tool
Lateralus

a. This isn?t so much about the layers of sound, but the concept of the song and how completely it is
employed. The Fibonacci sequence is used as a rhythmic device, poetic meter, and the very cool way
lead
singer Keenan applies the mathematical structure to the meaning of life.
5Opeth
The Grand Conjuration

Always something driving it forward, and everyone gets a turn at it. This pick is much more obvious
and
easily digestible than a couple of the others, but credit is due regardless.
6Steven Wilson
Get All You Deserve

Persistent white noise grows as more layers are added on, until the entire song is engulfed by a wave of
sound. Minimalist drumming contrasts perfectly with the layers of instruments on top.
7Dredg
Long Days and Vague Clues
8The Mars Volta
Televators
9Isis
Altered Course
