Okay so this is one of the most visually spectacular films I have ever seen, it literally blew me away. However, HOLY SHIT this was terribly written, overlong and pretty much just dwindle down to propaganda. I mean we get it, White Man's guilt, blah blah blah, and I don't have a problem with movies about the destructive nature of imperialism and all of it's evils. But lines such as "we fight terror with terror" and "the sky people destroyed their planet long ago" and the obscene amount of exposition and cliched, klunky dialogue gets really tiring very fast. I had to get that off my chest... and yet I have to recommend it because it's literally a visual feast, especially in 3D... now here are some recent digs that are better than Avatar:
1Corinne Bailey Rae
The Sea

Delicious sounding neo-soul shit right here.
2 Franz Kafka
The Trial

I can't the image of a mysterious man stroking his reddish beard out of my head. I need more Kafka, Metamorphosis is definitely next.
3Spoon
Transference

It's Spoon, that's always good. No reason necessary.
4Cormac McCarthy
The Road

"to each the other's world entire."
5 Movie
The Hurt Locker

This is what should've won best picture at the Golden Globes. The set pieces are so well executed that it results in the most tense and thrilling film I've seen in a long time.
6Sunset Rubdown
Random Spirit Lover

I've liked this for a long time, but only recently did it fully click and I've realized how awesome it really is.
7 Gustav Flaubert
Madame Bovary

The best novel about boredom ever. EVER.
8 Thomas Hardy
Jude the Obscure

Because Thomas Hardy is better then you and you know it.
9 William Empson
Seven Types of Ambiguity

This isn't fiction. This isn't fun. But this man is brilliant and it will change the way you read.
10 Johnathan Swift
An Argument Against the Abolishment of Catholicism

This is part of a historiographical paper on the English Civil War. Swift is the best satirist ever.
