2022
Lots of surprises for me, but a weaker year overall. Many great albums, few that blew me away. I actually listened to a lot of Kpop and Killing Joke this year, more than most of the stuff listed here. Anyway, top 25 is in order, the rest is stuff that I found enjoyable. |
1 | | Pure Reason Revolution Above Cirrus
What a surprise this year, love this record. Amplifier meets Steven Wilson |
2 | | Dreamcatcher (KR) Apocalypse : Save Us
Really catchy record with tight songs, seeing them live was a bonus for me. |
3 | | Porcupine Tree Closure/Continuation
A grower, but rewarding nonetheless. Gavin's drumming is half of the record's charm. |
4 | | Elder (USA-MA) Innate Passage
Very strong record with lots of excellent moments. |
5 | | Valleyheart Heal My Head
Another lovely surprise as I wasn't aware of these guys until now. |
6 | | Chat Pile God's Country
Same here, quite a haunting record. |
7 | | Ethel Cain Preacher's Daughter
Hypnotizing record, perhaps a bit too long yet very strong overall. |
8 | | Viagra Boys Cave World
Much better than the previous LP, some excellent tunes on this one. |
9 | | Cult of Luna The Long Road North
Ultimately compelling. |
10 | | Bodyjar New Rituals
Bodyjar keep going strong. |
11 | | Haircuts for Men HFM88
Soothing vapor/synthwave. |
12 | | Sasquatch Fever Fantasy
With a clearer production, this could have been even better. |
13 | | Coheed and Cambria Vaxis II: A Window of the Waking Mind
Polarizing, but the pop prog-ish direction brought some catchy stuff. |
14 | | No Devotion No Oblivion
The middle section of this record is awesome. |
15 | | Calexico El Mirador
A welcomed return to Latino inspired music. |
16 | | The Dear Hunter Antimai
Interesting direction, sometimes it works wonders. |
17 | | Boris Heavy Rocks (2022)
Manic Boris return, does justice to the series. |
18 | | Conan Evidence of Immortality
Conan killing it as always. |
19 | | Tim Bowness Butterfly Mind
Tim is still feeding on our tears. |
20 | | Wo Fat The Singularity
Glad they are back, some strong grooves here. |
21 | | Motorpsycho Ancient Astronauts
This is still excellent, but perhaps less rewarding than the all-encompassing odysseys they released lately? |

Too much, but has some awesome tracks. |

24 | | Papir 7 |
