03.10.14 | Good list. People like to shit on some of these bands, and for good reason, but nonetheless if it weren't for these bands not many of us would be listening to the subgenre's of heavy music we listen to now. |

03.10.14 | Some good stuff on here, for the ones we all like to hate on I do have to give credit for introducing a lot of people to the idea of heavy music. |

03.10.14 | I find it weird that all of my gateway bands are actually respectable...
The Beatles (age 11) Opened me up to music in general.
Led Zeppelin (age 13) Opened me up to non British invasion stuff.
Nirvana (age 14) opened me up to the 80s and 90s
Frank Zappa (age 14/15) opened me up experimental music.
and by 15 my taste was expansive enough where I was done with so called "gateways" |

03.10.14 | @ArsMoriendi A lot of my bands that opened me to music were pretty respectable.
The Doors (Age 9) Found through THUG2 and opened me up to rock music.
The Offspring (Age 9) Opened me up to punk rock. Too bad I was into pop punk for a bit, but I found Dead Kennedys and Black Flag and haven't returned there since.
Tool & Rush (Age 11) Opened me up to prog rock.
Nine Inch Nails & Big Black (Age 11) Opened me up to noise and electronics.
Neurosis (Age 13) Opened me up to loud, slow, incredibly heavy stuff.
Still always finding new music. |

03.11.14 | @BMDrummer: Big Black, The Doors, and Nine Inch Nails are great, still never got into Tool... I REALLY need to do that sometime...Other than Big Black, I realize I don't have a taste for punk oddly enough... |

03.11.14 | I started with the beach Boys and the beatles and the like at 7. Then when I was 12 I discovered the shitpit that is typical Nu-metal (Linkin Park, Staind), Next year I found an interst in progressive rock (Rush,Yes, Pink Floyd) as well as an obsession with NWOBHM( Iron Maiden, Skyclad, Judas Preist). My freshman year in high school saw me regress back to nu metal (Slipknot, Mudvayne) and begin to explore thrash (the big 4, Sodom, Heathen). Last year I developed an interest in death metal(Opeth, Death, Gorguts, Immolation) and I also began to listen to Stoner metal/rock while still to this day never smoked a single thing in my life (Sleep, Clutch, Dead Meadow) This year I had a resurgence with progressive rock and metal (King Crimson, Amon Duul II, Lord Weird Slough Feg, Tool) with also a bit of black metal(Emperor, Windir, Saor) |
