DinosaurJones' Rec Contest ROUND 2!!

Congrats to everyone who made it, condolences to those who didn't! This time around, we'll be searching for a certain VIBE/MOOD. Obviously, this sort of thing is much more open to interpretation, and that's kind of why I'm doing it. As we enter the last month of the year, I want you to hit me with your warmest, chillest SUMMER EVENING VIBES. Forget winter, let's get sunny up in here! I'm looking particularly for something you'd play as the sun is setting and the day is winding down, and you're just going to spend the evening and night relaxing. I will eliminate the THREE LOWEST SCORES this round.
1CHON
Homey

Songs like Glitch, Berry Streets, Sleepy Tea, and Waterslides (pretty much this entire album) would fit my criteria, but there's obviously so much more out there. Everyone vibes differently, so let's see what you guys are into!
2Fazerdaze
Morningside

Dewinged

Lucky Girl - I'm getting a very happy-go-lucky vibe from this song. I would hope given the title of the song and the lyrics that that was what they were going for. It's a fairly simple song, pretty to the point, but to be fair, sometimes a nice simple song is what you want or need. I can definitely see the summer vibes in this one. Very light and airy, but it moves along at a nice clip.

3Rx Bandits
Gemini, Her Majesty

TheSpirit

Meow! Meow! Space Tiger - I love the Rx Bandits. I was very sad when they broke up, but once they reunited and pumped out this album, all felt right in the world again. It feels like they pulled the reins back from their Mandala days, simplifying their sound a bit. I still miss the brass, but I really have no complaints about their sound at alll, and this song feels like it was written to be a sing along anthem, especially the ending. SHE'S NOT COMING HOME!

4Fiona Apple
When the Pawn...

ZombieToyDuck

A Mistake - I've never listened to Fiona Apple in depth, though I do remember seeing the video for Criminal at one point, which did confusing things to my young body and mind. This song definitely has a really laid-back vibe to it, with a lazy bass drawling through along with a simple beat. And maybe I was influenced at a young age, but she has a sexy voice. Definitely a nice track, though I feel the ending is a bit drawn out. I'm finding this is a criticism of mine that comes up a bit. Must be a personal thing!

5Polyphia
Renaissance

SteakByrnes

Crush - All right, I won't lie, I got a huge shit-eating grin on my face when this song really got started, since I didn't know what to expect from the almost ambient beginning. THAT BASS. Goddamn! I definitely liked the first half of this song more than the second, and though the musicianship throughout was obviously stellar, I feel as though the drums let the song down a bit. They felt almost too standard, I would have hoped for something a little more groove oriented. But high scores for that bass alone. Mmmmm... definitely felt them summer vibes from this.

6Hospital Ships
The Past Is Not A Flood

UniqueUniverse

Nothing to Hide - This definitely switches the vibe up from the last track, which was very high energy. Instead, this starts out at a plodding pace, I found myself getting lost in this one, but in a good way. Kind of a mesmerizing song, despite its relative simplicity. Maybe a bit long, but definitely enjoyable!

Yerself Is Steam

Conmaniac

Frittering - As a big fan of GY!BE, I certainly did agree to a song that is nearly 9 minutes long. That in itself isn't a problem, but unfortunately, it didn't do much to hold my interest throughout. It picked up a bit when the drums came in, but my biggest gripe has gotta be that distorted guitar tone on the rhythm. It's just a buzzing that I find takes away from the song for almost its entire length. Not a terrible song, but not one I can honestly say that I see myself returning to.

Bubblegum

butcherboy

One Hundred Days - Sounds like something my dad would dig. And that is not a criticism, because my dad has pretty good taste in music and we like a lot of the same stuff. This is definitely a chilled out track, perfect for perhaps right when the sun sinks below the horizon, with a nice stiff drink. And I don't even drink!

Metaphorical Music

Kingdedethefifth

Blessing It - Wasn't too sure about this one, honestly, but then there was a saxophone. And I am a sucker for a saxophone. Also, I'm a fan of beatz. Generally, I'm not a big fan of rap, I tend to listen to a lot of instrumental beats and such, but this is pretty decent. It gets the job done and also doesn't overstay its welcome. Definitely a cruising song.

10The Weakerthans
Reconstruction Site

TumsFestival

Reconstruction Site - This didn't really grab me. It felt kind of like something you would have heard on the soundtrack of a teen romance movie in the early 2000s. There's nothing wrong with standard, but I wasn't feeling particularly froggy about this one.

Animals

Drifter

If I Sit Still, Maybe I'll Get Out of Here - Uggghhh, that guitar is absolutely beautiful. Like, goddamn, I can't get over it. How the hell do you play like that?? Not huge on the singer, but the instrumentation is so good I can easily forgive it, and his voice does fit the music quite well. This is just a beautiful song. Feeling the summer evening on this one for sure

4.5/5
12Weathertunes
Palm Beach

SCREAM!

Palm Fiction - Everything about the name of the song, the name of the album, and even the name of the band told me this would exactly fit my criteria. And as soon as the song started with the sound of waves, it was on. This really makes me wish I was sitting on a deck across the street from the beach, rather than sitting in front of my computer in a wifebeater and pajama pants. Everything about this SCREAMS (get it?) summer. The keys, the trumpets, the drum beat, that spanish guitar. How the hell do you do this?

5/5 for being a great song and completely encompassing the requested vibe.
13Plini
Handmade Cities

Dctarga

Every Piece Matters - Finally getting in on some of that Plini action. For a large period of my life, I was into "Virtuoso" guitarists like Satriani, Vai, etc. I fell out of that style a bit, but I can still appreciate the skill behind it. Also, this is a lot more dynamic than the earlier mentioned names. What I appreciate more in music like that now more than pure speed/wankery is the AESTHETIC. And this has character. I'll need to check out some more of this stuff.

bloc

Hypnotize - I love Old Raves' End (I actually have it on vinyl), so I'm hoping this can live up to that standard, as Swarms' later output has been... meh. Though this is an earlier release. Oh yeah, this is right up my alley... minimal vox, a tasty beat, and the bass and keyboard keep things interesting throughout. To me, this is some of the best kind of music to just chill to. Perfect for the vibe I requested.

4.1/5
15Boards of Canada
The Campfire Headphase

onionbubs

Peacock Tail - Having only listened to Geogaddi, and not in depth, I wasn't too sure what to expect from this. But it's got those delicious beats that I enjoy so much, and a nice laid-back feel. I vibed out to this one, and some might say it's boring, but it's got a continuous feeling off slow progression that I really dig.

4.0/5
16Metronomy
The English Riviera

Sinternet

The Bay - Huh, I think I expected this to be more "techno" and less dancey, but there's nothing wrong with that. It's definitely a groovy track. It's got those '70s summer vibes kinda disco. It's an enjoyable vibe, something that I could see myself getting more into.
