Masochist vs. Popular Opinion

For some bands, your favorite album is EVERYONE'S favorite album--not too many people will argue with you if you say that 'The Shape of Punk To Come' is your favorite Refused album. But then you've got those other bands where your favorite album is no where near the popular opinion. This is for those bands.
1Brand New
Daisy

Most people would say 'The Devil and God...', or maybe 'Deja Entendu'...but 'Daisy' is where I stopped being a fan of songs and became a fan of the band.
2Dream Theater
Octavarium

'Metropolis, Pt. II', 'Awake' or 'Images and Words' are the three albums I see sited as favorites the most, and I own all of those and three other LPs by the band, but this is without a single doubt my favorite Dream Theater record.
3Jane's Addiction
The Great Escape Artist

This band has put out one LP per decade so far. The first two are undeniable alt-rock classics, the third has a slew of hits, and the fourth one is completely forgotten...so of course, it's the fourth one that is my favorite.
4Jimmy Eat World
Futures

Most people would call 'Clarity' or 'Bleed American' (S/T) their favorite, but I didn't even know that 'The Middle' was a Jimmy Eat World song until after I explored this album. This one can still take me back, and '23' is one of the best closers ever.
5Nine Inch Nails
With Teeth

Blasphemous, right? I know...but I can't deny that 'With Teeth' is my favorite NIN record. It's very nostalgic for me, as it reminds me of my freshman year of college. I got into the band because of this album, and the video to 'Only' is one of my absolute favorites.
6Norma Jean
Meridional

Norma Jean is a harder band to gauge which album is the most popular, but I'm pretty sure this one probably isn't even in the top 3. 'O, God' and 'Bless the Martyr,' at least, are ahead of it, wouldn't you say? Either way, this one's tops in my book.
7Red Hot Chili Peppers
By the Way

Everything I was about in High School is encapsulated in this album. This was the first album that was released after I'd discovered this band's music, and so it was the one I listened to the most. It's over an hour long, but I could probably still sing every word of every song. Keep 'Californication', keep 'Blood Sugar Sex Magic'...I'll take 'By The Way'.
8System of a Down
Mezmerize

On my very first list ever on Sputnikmusic (back in 2007!), I called this my favorite album of all time. Obviously my music taste has changed so drastically since then that this album probably would struggle to make the top 50 or 100, but as far as SOAD albums go, this is still my favorite. Not that it's not close--'Toxicity' is still a ballin' record, as is 'Steal This Album'--but there's memory and emotion behind this one, as it was released right as I graduated high school, and System of a Down ended up being my very first concert during that summer. So yeah...gotta stick with this one.
