12.15.11 | Buya. Awesome year for music imo.
41-50 - pretty random placing |
pizzamachine
12.15.11 | Great list, I'm kinda surprised 45 made it. |
Blackbelt54
12.15.11 | I heard 1 rules, I need to get on that |
greg84
12.15.11 | I'm a sucker for Staind so that was easy to predict. Still, the album is solid. |
Poet
12.15.11 | ugh I hate having people with the same name as me on here because it always confuses me.
That being said Fair to Midland is the only thing I've heard on here and it's pretty awesome. |
KangarooSong
12.15.11 | The St. Vincent album is my number one for the year. I have it at a 4.5 but I'm thinking it might get the classic treatment soon. I'm glad you had it so high up there |
greg84
12.15.11 | Cool. In fact, I even thought of putting it higher. |
Jethro42
12.16.11 | WHOA Best top 2011 list as expected.
2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13, 16, 20, 23, 27, 28 and 49 will be officially on my list, maybe more if I'd give a 2nd chance to some others. Thanks for the big majority of these Greg, bro. Ho Ho Ho! |
seedofnothing
12.16.11 | Lotta stuff here. |
greg84
12.16.11 | Awesome. Thanks man. Quite a predictable list, isn't it? |
Ovrot
12.16.11 | best 2011 list yet |
Jethro42
12.16.11 | Dont be too harsh with yourself. It's actually more like a classic Greg's list. I knew the floor would be shaking! |
greg84
12.16.11 | @Ovrot: Considering there were so many of them, thanks a bunch dude.
@Daniel: Haha. Yeah. A lot of underground stuff here, which means it's my list. |
Jethro42
12.16.11 | Totally. Sputnik needs so much to jam more to all those! m/ |
greg84
12.16.11 | Yeah. This is objectively the most rocking year-end list so far. |
luci
12.16.11 | so let me guess you're a stoner |
greg84
12.16.11 | Lol. C'mon not every album on this list is stoner rock/metal. |
Jethro42
12.16.11 | Undergrund stuff has to remain underground stuff I guess. Bravo for all the finds you bring on the table. What a rawking contribution this is, this year again. |
Acanthus
12.16.11 | Nice list, it's great to see stuff here that passed other users by. |
greg84
12.16.11 | It's sometimes really surprising. For example, 44 and 50 were hailed as best metal albums of the year by a lot of critics. I haven't heard much about them here tbh. |
Acanthus
12.16.11 | I hadn't heard about them at all until this list, to me that's the point of year end lists - the individuality. |
greg84
12.16.11 | Exactly. I'm not gonna pretend that I like a lot of indie stuff in order to comply.
I'm pretty sure these two albums topped popmatters.com metal list. |
Acanthus
12.16.11 | Huh, I might look into 44 - doom metal is nice on occasion. |
greg84
12.16.11 | It's a sort of unusual heartfelt doom metal. I suggest checking out 7. The best doom metal this year imo. |
Ovrot
12.16.11 | Greg, I really do think you have great taste.
Greg for staff |
cb123
12.16.11 | Puscifer grow off ya greg? |
MisterTornado
12.16.11 | You seem to be into Stoner Rock, and therefore I must ask - Where the fuck is Elder? |
Days of Future Passed
12.16.11 | Really good list. I just d/l'd 2. And I'm glad someone else appreciates 18 so much. |
JamieTwort
12.16.11 | Great list. Good to see 2 so high up, album rules hard. |
greg84
12.16.11 | @Ovrot: Ha. Good idea. Thanks again.
@cb123: Yeah. It def grew off me. Plus, I started checking out plenty of rec'd albums in the last couple of weeks, which really put it out of consideration.
@MisterTornado: I was thinking of putting Elder, but I had to resign from some albums regrettably. I totally forgot Trap Them tbh. |
greg84
12.16.11 | @DOFP: Stone Rollin' is a killer 1950s influenced soul album. Definitely underappreciated. |
greg84
12.16.11 | @Jamie: Yeah. 2 RAWKS Check out 6 too. |
omnipanzer
12.16.11 | /nod |
greg84
12.16.11 | I'd change some stuff but I won't edit for obvious reasons. |
JamieTwort
12.17.11 | "Yeah. 2 RAWKS Check out 6 too."
Will do, thanks. |
greg84
12.17.11 | 'Unusually heartfelt' That was what I meant. Warning's last album was better, but this is still really good. |
R3fl3cti0ns
12.18.11 | Couple gems in there - The Hunter is embarrassing though. |
greg84
12.18.11 | I think The Hunter is awesome even though I admittedly put it a bit too high. This is certainly most pop-oriented album of theirs, but I really can't regard it as a drawback. What are your favorite albums on here? |
greg84
12.21.11 | My updated list can be seen here:
http://rateyourmusic.com/list/greg84/gregs_top_albums_of_2011/ |
Inveigh
12.22.11 | cool list man. what do you mean by "stoner dub"? |
greg84
12.22.11 | thx. the combination of stoner rock and reggae/dub: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzTF4HRqp90 |
Inveigh
12.22.11 | ah, well that makes sense lol. will check that out when I get home for sure. |
greg84
12.22.11 | Yeah. I coined this term myself in my review of 1 so it's understandable you don't know it. Haha. Awesome band! Highly recommended! |
Metalstyles
12.23.11 | Hey man, cool list. Like you said, we only have 4 albums in common, but in reality the percentage could be a lot higher. I was just slacking most of 2011 and didn't have the time during the last few months to catch up to everything. |
DoubtGin
12.23.11 | cool list, haven't listened to some of it but the ones I listened to were usually pretty great
about five albums would make my top 50, I think |
greg84
12.23.11 | @Metalstyles: Thanks. It's surprising that one of these 4 albums is a hip-hop release (sic). I suspect the majority of Sputnik don't know the majority of these albums. I tried to push Amebix (which is one of the best metal albums of the year imo) for a feature but it didn't quite work out because the disc was released some time ago, I guess...
|
Metalstyles
12.23.11 | Yup, Tech N9ne definitely did good this year. I hear he's already got a new album out but I haven't got to it yet. |
greg84
12.23.11 | Yes. I've actually heard it. It's not as good as All 6's and 7's imo. Still, worth a listen.
Anyway, any support on getting the new Amebix album featured would be much appreciated.
@DoubtGin: Thx man. Which 5 albums will be on your list?
|
Blackbelt54
12.23.11 | yeah that Amebix album is kinda weird but it rules |
greg84
12.23.11 | Yeah. And it grows on you heaps. It's much higher on my updated RYM list than here. |
Blackbelt54
12.23.11 | yeah first listen I was like is this even Amebix? |
greg84
12.23.11 | Yeah. It sounds quite different than their 1980s style, yet it doesn't mean it isn't awesome. I definitely dig this hybrid of tech metal, trash and post-punk they're playing now. |
Blackbelt54
12.23.11 | yeah I really like the trash influence lol |
greg84
12.23.11 | Yeah. Judging by your pie chart... |
