Illuminate the Path
...CD - Woe has been in steady rotation for me basically since it dropped, so catching up on the back catalogue. This is a super inexact comparison, but that record's blend of genres and off-the-wall musical flourishes (like overlaying an Opeth-esque guitar noodle over, like, a lofi trap beat, for instance) reminds me of BtBaM back when their instrumental and songwriting curveballs felt oddly organic vs. coldly manufactured. Anyways, bummed I couldn't scoop the EP in physical form, as well, but maybe they'll have more in a BCF to come. | | 4 |  | Parannoul

And yeah, I've given it a few listens, and while it's obviously not as fully formed as Woe, you can still tell this is a band with a lot of brimming creativity and the chops to make it work. (Very melodic, too, which is by no means a prerequisite for good music, but also often the first casualty of prog-for-prog's-sake, by my reckoning.) |
