Skinamarink

Saw it in theatres last night. Curious if anybody else has checked it out and has any takes. (List is recent digs.)
1He Is Legend
Endless Hallway

Skinamarink was solid, but definitely a bit overhyped for me.
2Greyhaven
Empty Black

Overall, I enjoyed it. Atmosphere was incredibly effective, some of the images were legitimately unsettling and chilling in a low-key way (well-matched to the lofi aesthetics), and the few times it did go the jump-scare route, they were well-executed to a one.
3Katatonia
Mnemosynean

But I also feel like it could have easily been 20 minutes shorter, and that's being conservative.
4Remember Sports
Slow Buzz

It also might have been the rare horror movie that would actually benefit more from watching at home, as your house creaked and settled in the background, in the dark.
5An Abstract Illusion
Woe

Put positively, it felt like watching someone's nightmare, a visual tone poem on abandonment, or like David Lynch had tried his hand at adapting House of Leaves.
6Static Dress
Rouge Carpet Disaster

Put less so, it was kind of a slog. It's tough to ever label it "boring" outright, especially since I was on the edge of my seat, clenched with dread through most of the back-half.
7Dosser
Brainscan

But it's repetitive bordering on monotonous (by design, to be sure), and I think with a tighter edit and one or two more jolts, could've really been something transcendent, versus something it's easier to admire than, y'know, like.
8Fleshwater
We're Not Here To Be Loved

Early take, I'd give it a 3/5.
