DominionMM1
04.10.19 | they’re finally doing a re-press of bone thugs n harmony’s e 1999 eternal so i’ll be looking for that one for sure |
butt.
04.10.19 | I'll be hunting for The Menzingers!! Can't wait |
SandwichBubble
04.10.19 | Overpriced vinyl gouging day is here once again, huzzah.
$36 bucks for Reservoir? Good album, I'd just pick it up on CD at that point honestly. |
thecheatisnotdead
04.10.19 | Eh, depends on where you go. I'm basing that price of BullMoose's site, and they're usually pretty accurate. A lot of the 7" are $6 to $10, which seems fairly reasonable.
Overall, though, I'd agree with the LPs being too ritzy. |
NorwichScene
04.10.19 | Only Julien Baker for me |
thecheatisnotdead
04.10.19 | Definitely a good one to single out. |
Friday13th
04.10.19 | Might get Trout Mask Replica if I see it. I usually just go for the other deals. |
SandwichBubble
04.10.19 | @cheat I know I know, I'm just being a bit sour. If people are willing to pay for it, and all that.
I miss LPs being cheaper than CDs though. A man can dream... |
DominionMM1
04.11.19 | to be fair vinyl is just as overpriced the other 364 days of the year |
Friday13th
04.11.19 | If you guys had better taste in music you could swoop down on a $1-$4 bargain bin of 70s rock and call it a day ;] |
DominionMM1
04.11.19 | depends on where you live and the record stores you frequent

04.11.19 | @Dominion lol guilty as charged. Sheet Music and Original Soundtrack all day, baby. |
Nazzadan
04.11.19 | I think I only have 1 RSD release, Fallen Angel Of Doom with a white jacket. I'll just go to my local shop and see what they have on sale but I don't plan on getting any RSD releases. |
wham49
04.11.19 | I always get the Grateful Dead release, well the full concert release
I am going to be honest and say I am not a huge fan of the RSD, firsdt many of the releases are just rereleases of the same thing you can buy for half the price without the RSD sticker on it, many are released that day that you can buy the same rerelease after without all the hype. There are only a few bands that put out something unique that can only be bought in limited quantities pressed once for RSD, the rest is just inflated BS |
Friday13th
04.11.19 | Agreed with wham49 (well besides getting every new Grateful Dead release lol). The RSD releases themselves are usually scams. Go to stores that have other specials like 20% off used vinyl or something. Then it may be worth your while.
I own like 600 used vinyl records, with many in my 4's and 3.5 list being less than $5 (also got a few like Machine Head for $4 so you can get top tier albums too). I can't imagine if they were each $20. I own like 5 new vinyls. |
budgie
04.11.19 | ya i had a nerdgasm when i read 13 was coming out. hoping to pick it up online at some point |
DominionMM1
04.11.19 | yeah most of the stuff released on rsd is garbage but there are a few things that come out that are special and limited. it used to be a lot cooler though. |
dimsim3478
04.11.19 | The Birthday - Vivian Killers
GEZAN - DNA 7" |
wham49
04.11.19 | that is a cool release Plane, RSD needs more stuff like that, especially for the prices, I go used vinyl almost everytime, I have over 3000 records and 99% were bought for 1-10 dollars, RSD is going to kill itself with the price gauging, and many releases are useless to a real collector |
DominionMM1
04.11.19 | “I go used vinyl almost everytime, I have over 3000 records and 99% were bought for 1-10 dollars“
but when? i mean unless you’re looking to round out your ted nugent collection it’s hard to find records in good shape at that price. i started buying records like 8 years ago and never paid more than $6 for any of my zeppelin or rush records. nowadays it’s damn near impossible to get those records for less than $15 (and that’s for a beat to hell copy) |
Uzumaki
04.11.19 | Again, it all depends on where you live and the shops you frequent. Rummage/estate sales are also really good ways to get decent vinyl. |
Friday13th
04.11.19 | @Dominion dang, in that case you're probably best off buying from Discogs. You can usually get a VG+ record like that for about $10 including shipping. |
DominionMM1
04.11.19 | discogs and ebay are main sources for records anymore
i rarely find anything i want at the record stores these days and on the rare occasion that i actually do they want so much for vinyl that going to the interwebz is the cheaper option. just last week i saw an old copy of seventh son of a seventh son but they wanted $40 for it. ridiculous. |
CygnusX1
04.11.19 | The RSD exclusives are hit or miss, mostly miss for me. I'll go to 2 of my local stores tho because I love finding awesome records in the wild |
budgie
04.11.19 | plenty of gems dom though if you go looking through the "recent dropoffs" bins. like, i ended up with a first pressing of the adolescents debut for $4 or something. on discogs it's like $100. same with uh, germs GI first press, my buddy grabbed that for a couple bucks. |
wham49
04.11.19 | "but when? i mean unless you’re looking to round out your ted nugent collection it’s hard to find records in good shape at that price. i started buying records like 8 years ago and never paid more than $6 for any of my zeppelin or rush records. nowadays it’s damn near impossible to get those records for less than $15 (and that’s for a beat to hell copy)"
I have a special place that knows how to price albums and in great condition, not ted nugent, obscure prog, psych stuff like that
I should make a list of albums I have gotten recently |
Minushuman24
04.11.19 | 9, the death grips release, and I really want that ruby soho 3" even if it's dumb. Also gonna try and get the woody guthrie and the Lillingtons picture disc |

04.11.19 | My babies stay in their packaging damn it, storage space be damned.
I used to double dip, but I sold my vinyl a decade ago
Now it's just CDs exclusively
Definitely made the right call there, no regrets here... |
Uzumaki
04.11.19 | “Joke’s on you, I am party to both.” [2]
I only double dip if I like the album/band a lot, and that’s kind of rare for me nowadays. |
wham49
04.11.19 | To prove my point just got back from my record store, had secure my place in line to get my Dead and Dylan and Gong RSD offerings, that they ordered for me and put me in line to make sure I get them, well anyway I caught Free hand from Gentle Giant that they just got in, 5.99, with my discount 5 bones, in very good shape, it can be had people, don’t pay too much |
DominionMM1
04.11.19 | it's not like i'd pay a dime for a gentle giant record so it doesn't really prove your point unless your point is that old records that no one wants are relatively inexpensive then yeah i agree |
budgie
04.11.19 | how do you all feel about the "vinyl sounds better" thing
i did a/b the other week uh... the holy motors album. and also the beach house bloom album. like, laptop with bandcamp lossless download -> usb interface -> dac -> tape playback on amp, then had my turntable as well, uh switchable between the two sources with my amps source selector nob, and played the album simultaneously on either source, and in both cases i really did prefer the vinyl. it is frustrating because there shouldnt be anything wrong with digital right? but it does sound worse somehow. |
DominionMM1
04.11.19 | so many variables but it's not a given that the vinyl version of a recording will sound better than it's digital counterpart.
that said, a well pressed vinyl record on a good system sounds the best to me |
budgie
04.11.19 | oh man. i grabbed witchfynde's give 'em all (repress on back in black i think) and it straight up sounds so muffled and shitty lol. back in black is terrible |
Friday13th
04.11.19 | The three most important things to getting the sound you want for vinyl 1) record in VG+ condition or above, 2) stereo with good visual EQ and 3) replace your damn needle. None of these are an issue for CD or digital since you can just EQ on your computer. Other than that, I can almost never tell the difference between the different releases, or comparing vinyl to CD. |
DominionMM1
04.11.19 | yeah i only have 1 record from bob and it's not good plus i've not heard a lot of good things about them overall
i tend to avoid them at all costs |
wham49
04.12.19 | Dom, how do you not like GG, it is great prog, and timeless, not old |
DominionMM1
04.12.19 | i’m really split on 70s prog tbh. love floyd and rush, camel and wishbone ash have their moments, while bands like crimson and yes are zzzz inducing. |
Friday13th
04.12.19 | How can you like Wishbone Ash and not Yes? HOW IS KING CRIMSON ZZZ INDUCING? I'm just so triggered right now I should just not. |
DominionMM1
04.12.19 | you should |

04.12.19 | #8
< 3 |
wham49
04.12.19 | my only concern with his comment, is if you like WA, GG is very similar stylistically |
wham49
04.13.19 | ok so i got the Dead album, the Bob Dylan Release, Gong, The doors, Hawkwind, and I got an import of GG the first five years, for 25% off used so
good haul, |
Uzumaki
04.13.19 | Sunn O))), The Crow OST, Mastodon 10", Yes s/t and the Rush picture disc here. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. |

04.14.19 | I feel you Kompys, I just bought 2-3 CDs off discogs.
