08.05.09 | Jane Doe is one of the heaviest, most energetic albums I've ever come across. And the riffs slay. |
thebbqshrimp
08.05.09 | 123.
And #6 never fails to put me in a good mood.
#9 is overrated, and not all that great. |

08.05.09 | 6: the emotional intensity and flaws put into the singing matched up with the 'lo-fi' aesthetic of the guitars/drums makes the album really personal. the lyrics, while somewhat nonsensical, are also brilliant in a strange way, like jeff mangum describing dreams or nightmares or something. the songwriting is also great, and the album works amazingly well as a cohesive whole. *indie input* |

08.05.09 | None of these really deserve to be Sputnik albums, really. |

08.05.09 | yeah thrice are so emo

08.05.09 | 6 is something that you won't get until you listen to it at a certain moment and realize how awesome it is and you won't be able to stop listening to it. It's just one of those albums. It might take a looong time for it to click, too. |
thebhoy
08.05.09 | also, I totally agree about El Cielo. That album isn't really that great. |

08.05.09 | do you like any mewithoutyou? or you just don't like brother sister? |

08.05.09 | What Thor said about 1. And while the lyrics are unconventionally presented in the songs, they are absolutely incredible.
7 and 8 are just fun albums filled with guitar wankery and bass genius. If you want to know what the fuss is about, download one of their guitar-pro tabs |

08.05.09 | el cielo's overrated
6 is fucking sublime though. closing track's lyrics are some of the best ever written. |

08.05.09 | it seems like all you like is hip-hop. you should actually give most of these albums a few listens all the way through to try and branch out |

08.05.09 | i can see not getting the classic status of most of these... but dredg and refused? they're both near perfect records. |

08.05.09 | nope, i like more than half of those. nice try though? |

08.05.09 | 1 is a superb record that conveys the emotions of hate and rage flawlessly. The musicianship is stellar. The vocals take some getting used to, I'll admit. But once you can appreciate the album for what it is, it's amazing. Try listening to it after a breakup.
2 isn't emo, but I never really thought too highly of it either. But you should acknowledge the blend of genres the band employs, as well as the great production.
3 is considered classic but the sound is original, the concept is good, the flow is great, and it's an emotional powerhouse. All around, this is a really tight record from a really tight band.
Listen to 5's lyrics and just think for awhile.
6 was classic for the effect it had on it's "scene". It's so fragile and beautiful, but in a very different way than most other albums. There's nothing quite like it. It's really a bit bizarre and it's no big deal if it's not your thing, but keep listening to it. It might stick.
7 and 8 are just absurdly technical and fun, but it's not for everyone.
And ehhhhh 9. Ehhhhh. |

08.05.09 | What's not so great about these. |
Yotimi
08.05.09 | Since 4 is my favorite album off all time (Yoshimi is a 5 for me but slightly inferior), I'll tackle that one: The album has a bit of everything and the attention to detail is incredible. The greatest synth lines (Race for the Prize) are on Soft Bulletin while Yoshimi's tend to lean towards the catchier/poppier side. Soft Bulletin is chalk full of brilliant and original/experimental aspects that Yoshimi doesn't have - A Spoonful Weighs A Ton's spacey/trippy in your face drum 'n bass bursts that come out of nowhere; My favorite song of all time The Spark That Bled's amazing song structure with the pseudo orchestrated breakdowns that include the perfect amount of horns, synths, glochenspiel, marching band drums, and even bongos coming in and out creating a mind blowing sound, followed by the greatest drum/guitar rockout (the 3:55 - 4:35 mark) ever recorded - purely epic; The Spiderbite Song's crazy original drum pattern that consists of just a drum roll during the verses and incredible high-hat and brush work during the refrains, coupled with a beautiful piano arrangement, and of course the cryptic lyrics about spiderbites (which are really about Heroin); Buggin' is pure fun with an amazing groove; Waitin' For A Superman has one of the greatest drum beats and vocal melodies ever written along with the lyrics that are about Wayne's father's death but sung through the perspective of a child replacing God with Superman (which is awesome) - plus the remix has the most beautiful vocal harmonizations I've ever heard; Suddenly Everything Has Changed's seemingly simple lyrics take on a deeper meaning when you realize that's the point - it's about how even the every day mundane things seem very different when a life changing event such as a loved one passing away occurs, also the technicality of the drum times are amazing as Steven Drozd plays a 3/4 timing on the high-hat to an otherwise 4/4 rhythm; The Gash utilizes multiple vocal tones to create a choir-like vocal arrangement put over top of an insanely addicting groove; Feeling yourself Disintegrate is pure bliss in musical form. The vocals acting as the percussion is sounds perfect against the accoustic melody and lead guitar lines that accompany it.
Yoshimi is just the little brother to The Soft Bulletin with a more poppy/trippy feel with less attention to detail and more attention on catchiness. But it still rules in every way too.
Oh, and 6 is awesome too. |

08.05.09 | Nothing on here would be a 5 for me, but 1 and 6 are 4.5's. Jane Doe is the pinnacle of hardcore music. Its not just screaming into the microphone. The lyrical message and the chaotic music form a beautiful piece of art that is well deserving of a superb album rating. The album isn't for everyone though, so I can see why you might think its nothing special.
6 is just an indie classic. I don't really know how you can not see the incredible musicianship of Aeroplane.
The rest would be 4's and under for me. I don't get why El Cielo gets so much praise either. Its tough for me even to get through the whole thing most of the time. 5 I really can't stand, I hate campfire-ish songs, I hate the guys vocals, and I can't stand christian music.
7 and 8 are technically great, music wise, but that is about it. It lacks any soul, and is just crazy music for the sake of being crazy. That doesn't make it bad, but no where near classic status.
I've never heard 9.
10 is a great album. Still not a 5, but has a big significance in that genre's history, which is probably why it gets so much attention. |

08.05.09 | 5 doesn't have campfire songs. your thinking of their new cd |

08.05.09 | "Lol way to attack the fact his comment was an opinion on a totally opinion-based site"
no uh ya wrong
he's saying 'i can't understand why you wouldnt find [insert albums] a classic, but i do understand why you wouldnt find [insert albums] a classic'
so considering everyone has opinions and it's idiotic to think that everyone or even near everyone will consider one or two or whatever albums a classic
so the only reason you'd say you can understand why someone thinks one album is a classic but not understand why they think another is because you like the album you don't understand why they don't think is a classic |

08.06.09 | Lol I didnt say I hated any of these albums I just didnt understand there greatness. Most of you guys did a great job in explaining why thanks |
