Overlooked Guitarists
Here's my top 8 overlooked guitarists although in reality they are in no particular order (and off the top of my head), these are just a few names just a few names to look out for. I feel it's such a shame when guys like these are missed off lists for those with larger egos and of bands with larger success. Love it or hate it here's my 8 overlooked guitarists. |
1 | 'Fast' Eddie Clarke- Motorhead
Evidently a speedy guitarist but nevertheless very overlooked. Check out Overkill, Live to Win and The Hammer to get a feel for his style. |
2 | Adrian Smith- Iron Maiden
With solos like Pashendale, Aces High and Flight of Icarus it was too hard to leave him off. |
3 | Glenn Tipton- Judas Priest
Possibly my favourite guitarist and it's easy to see why with oustanding performances on Electric Eye, Painkiller, Exciter and certainly not forgetting Beyond the Realms of Death. |
4 | Andy Summers- The Police
Not one for solos but this guys rythm and style deserves recognition. Check out Roxanne, Message in Bottle and So Lonely. |
5 | Hillel Slovak- Red Hot Chili Peppers
Essentially the guitarist Frusciante gets all the credit for, without Hillel Frusciante would never have taken up his playing style. Fruther listening: Fight Like a Brave, Fire and Me and My Friends |
6 | Michael Weikath- Helloween
The long time guitarist of Power Metal band Helloween, surving for over 20 years. Great performances include Halloween and A Tale that Wasn't Right. |
7 | Nick Drake
Nick Drake is a hugely talented Folk guitarist whose neat fingerstylings earn him a place on my list. Check out Things Behind the Sun. |
8 | Mike Rutherford- Genesis
I remember seeing this guy in concert on TV several years back and his tidy playing really helped bring some depth to the songs. I'm sure if you ask any Genesis fan they'll rate him too. |
