08.13.14 | Try watching Ergo Proxy. It's relatively similar to DN. |
Whispered4tw
08.13.14 | If you like the mind games of Death Note, I heartily recommend Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor
There's a lot of stuff that I can recommend, but I don't know what your definition of 'good shit' is. |
ScuroFantasma
08.13.14 | If you watch one anime, definitely make it Baccano! It's one of the best I've seen. You can watch it here for free (I believe): http://www.funimation.com/shows/baccano |
SourAK
08.13.14 | netflix only has half the series ugh |
eternium
08.13.14 | Madoka Magica
It's on Netflix. The cute surface is there to hide how dark it gets as it progresses. 12 episodes. |
Shuyin
08.13.14 | watch Lain |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | Corpse party man |
Rik VII
08.13.14 | Psycho Pass, Ergo Proxy, Baccano! |
adr
08.13.14 | Code Geass |
MUNGOLOID
08.14.14 | if you want dark and short anime, give Serial Experiments Lain and Boogiepop Phantom a try. |
londoncalling457
08.14.14 | hell yeah thanks guys |
Funeralopolis
08.14.14 | monster |
Evatallica
08.14.14 | I agree with Rosa Parks. The second part of the show is really mediocre, even downright boring at times.
I'd suggest you watch Code Geass, Monster, or Fate/Zero. |
LepreCon
08.14.14 | Code Geass [2]
|
Xar
08.14.14 | Death note rules yeah. Part 2 isn't too bad as people say. It was a losing battle from the start tho.
Watch code geass |
toxin.
08.14.14 | Code Geass sucks but it's similar to Death note so watch it
It's just as melodramatic, and it's got a magnificent bastard protag whose predictions are only correct because the plot says so. Also has a million plot holes, cardboard characters, nonsensical plot developments, fanservice through the roof, and one of the most hilariously tacked on high school parts as well.
...On the other hand, the ending is awesome. So there's that? |
londoncalling457
08.14.14 | just started monster |
Rik VII
08.14.14 | got to agree with toxin. about everything he said about Code Geass
btw Monster is my favorite anime, but it is over 70 episodes long, so it isn't exactly what you're looking for |
Xar
08.14.14 | A bit harsh mang |
MUNGOLOID
08.14.14 | 70 episodes is baby stuff compared to detective conan. |
Rik VII
08.14.14 | But most detective conan episodes are not connected. Monster tells one story througout 74 episodes.
also, storywise, conan is baby stuff compared to monster. |
MUNGOLOID
08.14.14 | i'm sure it is. i was just fucking around. |
BilboTeaBaggins
08.14.14 | "Oh cool, a death note list! Maybe I should finish that. It was getting pretty good. I love L. You know, I think I'll finish it lat-"
'Death note is great until L dies. after that the show is just awful'
Well shit |
WeepingBanana
08.14.14 | Paranoia Agent
FLCL
Cowboy Bebop (i'm assuming you've already seen this)
Space Dandy
Serial Experiments Lain
i'm in the middle of NGE myself |
wwba
08.14.14 | Code Geass [3] |
MUNGOLOID
08.14.14 | I'm currently watching psycho pass right now actually. Pretty good so far. |
climactic
08.14.14 | only anime i ever watched |
ScuroFantasma
08.15.14 | Oh yeah, Cowboy Bebop [2]. Souleater is pretty good too |
Sevengill
08.15.14 | Soul Eater has some really obnoxious characters though. If you like the cerebral aspect of Death Note, Spice and Wolf might be up your alley. Also lots of naked wolf girl if you're into that. |
MUNGOLOID
08.15.14 | Yeah, I actually dropped soul eater because of its characters. Spice and wolf was good, but the second season was kind of disappointing. |
Ire
08.15.14 | gurren waggann |
elcrawfodor
08.15.14 | I'm in the middle of Death Note now, just got past that certain death...
You seen Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood? |
Sevengill
08.15.14 | well yeah it was disappointing because Funimation up and pulled the plug when the light novels finished. fuckers. |
Happy2review
08.15.14 | If you haven't watched the original Full Metal Alchemist, it's highly recommended. I'd put it ahead of FMA: Brotherhood, particularly if your looking for less number of episodes. But also the original series cuts out a lot of the fat (unnecessary plot) out of the manga story line. Brotherhood is a straight adaption from the manga, and as a result has more filler. That not to say it's bad filler, it just means the original adaption has more concrete story progression. |
elcrawfodor
08.15.14 | The original FMA just cuts away from the manga halfway through and does its own thing, it does the opening stuff better than Brotherhood and it has some more interesting themes throughout but Brotherhood is an infinitely more cohesive and satisfying plot. What filler are you thinking of in Brotherhood? |
MUNGOLOID
08.15.14 | it has nothing to do with funimation as to why spice and wolf season 2 wasn't as strong as the first. it's that some of the story arcs that happened in the 2nd, weren't as interesting or well thought out as they were in the first. i might eventually read the light novels though. |
Sevengill
08.15.14 | mrgh I'm just mad they didn't finish the story. yeah it's more romance than intellectual adventure but it's not like the dropoff that Death Note experienced. jesus christ. |
MUNGOLOID
08.15.14 | lol i actually never really had a problem with the second half of death note. it sucks that spice and wolf still hasn't had a third season, but at least it isn't the only anime that needs more seasons. |
Sevengill
08.15.14 | or maybe I'm just still pissed off at Funimation for ruining R+V >.> |
MUNGOLOID
08.15.14 | All funimation does is distribute anime for the us. They don't have any thing to do with the creation/production of the anime they release in the states. |
Sevengill
08.15.14 | okay fair enough. it was Gonzo Entertainment. their animation is beautiful but good lord, they butchered everything else. |
Sevengill
08.15.14 | okay I'm done bitching sorry XD I need to watch more series. I haven't been able to in months...stopped like ten eps into Fairy Tail |
Happy2review
08.15.14 | @elcrawfodor
The whole country from the east and "father homunculus" story line may not technically constitute as
filler, but to me the plot really was all over the place compared to the original anime. The original
anime's diversion halfway through was a way of remedying the manga plot. It made it much less
abstract, in a good way, which lead to a more concrete plot and, in my opinion, a better ending. |
elcrawfodor
08.15.14 | Yeah that's not filler, Xing and Father were essential to the plot. I'd agree that there are a few things the original series did better, but I'd never argue the ending is one of them. |
Keyblade
08.15.14 | Serial Experiments Lain
Monster
HunterxHunter (cuz it's currently ongoing, and blows every other shounen out of the water, though it's not very similar to Death note) |
Happy2review
08.15.14 | Well I'm sure I'm not the only one who has that preference. I'm probably in the minority though, yes,
people like to know that what there watching is a a direct interpretation of the original manga plot.
To a casual amine watcher (like myself) however, I could see them preferring the first series over
Brotherhood. It has that less abstract story line that is all too common in amine storytelling. |
elcrawfodor
08.15.14 | What exactly do you mean by "abstract"? And honestly once Dante was brought back the plot in FMA just stopped being satisfying. |
Jasdevi087
08.15.14 | MONSTER!!!!! |
Happy2review
08.15.14 | lol. I found the over-abundance over new characters from the east, that seemingly sprouted out of
nowhere dissatisfying. It took away a lot of the attention off of Ed and Al. Then came in the whole
transmutation circles over all of Amestris and you had the Homunculi fighting on both sides. Greed's
character was more interesting in the first series. Speaking of Greed, I found it asinine how a Xing
became Greed. I guess the characters from the north were okay. Armstrong's sister was a fresh
character. Oh yeah, also King Brandley was a much cooler character as pride. The epic showdown
between Roy and Bradley is one of the most memorable scenes of both series. |
Snowdog808
08.23.14 | Soul Eater [2] |
Faraudo
08.23.14 | Obviously the first half with L is the best one, but I liked the second part with Near, and the ending was pretty satisfying. Watching Light getting what he deserved felt great. |
CoolCalmJoe
08.23.14 | FMA: Brotherhood #1 |
mindleviticus
08.23.14 | half amazing half boring show |
ScuroFantasma
08.24.14 | Near is pretty cool but I can't stand Mellow |
Graveyard
08.24.14 | series has aged pretty well tbh |
Shuyin
08.24.14 | ah you can watch the ghost in the shell movie, the second wont make much sense without watching the 2 anime seasons even tho its really good but the first movie is must watch if youre into cyberpunk stuff
also: akira |
toxin.
08.24.14 | FMA is better if you want to watch something focused mainly around Ed & Al. Brotherhood is better if you want a plot with a fuller (and better developed cast) and a more cathartic solution.
IMO Brotherhood was way better, but I can understand why you'd prefer FMA |
ethos
08.24.14 | anime sucks watch steins;gate, tatami galaxy, studio ghibli and maybe paprika
then get the HELL out of there
|
toxin.
08.24.14 | if you like steins;gate then there are a lot of other anime out there you'd like |
