Females Of 2010

just some female fronted albums i have really enjoyed this year so far. not in exact order but close enough. havent made a list here in a while because most lists about good albums dont get a lot of comments anymore
1Laura Marling
I Speak Because I Can

just perfect. the slower songs arent the best but her voice makes anything good
2Joanna Newsom
Have One On Me

holy crap this was dangerous for her to make, but she pulled it off and it in no way drags despite how long it is
3Amy Macdonald
A Curious Thing

my Scottish dream girl.
4 Marina And The Diamonds
The Family Jewels

talented and sexy. one of the most fun albums this year
5Sara Bareilles
Kaleidoscope Heart

i instantly fell in love with her style. her piano playing and heartfelt lyrics made for a good album
6Ellie Goulding
Lights

this took a couple listens for me to really like. the perseverance prevailed as this has been one of my most listened to albums this year.
7 Janelle Monae
The ArchAndroid

this girl is beyond talented. her debut album is ambitious although i found her EP to be a little better. she beats Beyonce or Rhianna anyday
8Melissa Auf der Maur
Out Of Our Minds

not many people have heard of her but she deserves more attention. this rock album has it all. epic stoner sounding songs, then desert rock (with Danzig), psychedelic tunes, and some ballads. her guitar playing has been around in music for sometime but she just now decides to go solo
9Goldfrapp
Head First

some may have been disappointed with this but i love the 70's influence and her voice and energy is always worth the money.
10White Hinterland
Kairos

one of the better folk/electronica fuses i have ever heard. a traditional folk vocals
11Katie Melua
The House

jazz pop done right. great piano playing and jazz style vocals. she can do it all
12Julie Christmas
The Bad Wife

Julie's vocals will haunt you and give you a boner at the same time. unfortunately the instrumentals arent that strong, but her voice is all that is needed
13The Birthday Massacre
Pins and Needles

i wrote off this band a few years ago, but after this release i was proved wrong. excellent gothic pop
14Amanda Jenssen
Happyland

she was one of the finalists on the Swedish Idol and she shouldve won considering the girl who won sucked. Amanda on the other hand is damn sexy and has a great voice
15 She & Him
Volume Two

cant forget about this one. my dream girl here!
16Mastercastle
Last Desire

most power metal with female vocals of late has been really bad, but this album takes the cake. well-executed instrumentals and a powerful voice
17Hannah Georgas
This Is Good

she looks like Florence from Florence + The Machine and she kind of sounds like her at times. this is more on the indie pop side and not as theatrical
18Anna Rose
Nomad

an alternative album that isnt just for people who like fionna apple. great melodies and lyricism along with a cool voice
19 Susanna Sundfor
The Brothel

pretty folk that has a dark side
20Zola Jesus
Stridulum II

she had many various releases this year but i just decided to use this one. creative and dark.
21The School
Loveless Unbeliever

airy pop that is cute. that doesnt mean it is hard to listen to because it is great for a day out on the road
22Scanners
Submarine

quite enjoyable
23 Rita Redshoes
Lights & Darks

not as strong as her debut but it is solid indie
24 Panic Girl
Burn and Rise

trip-hop
25Our Broken Garden
Golden Sea

this is really hard to listen to because there really isnt any climax to it or energy, but alone in your room with thoughts in your head and this works wonders
26The Mynabirds
What We Lose In The Fire We Gain In The Flood

folk with a sense of hope
27Madita
Pacemaker

a great electronic pop album
28Kylesa
Spiral Shadow

at first i thought this was nothing special, but after a few listens Kylesa really took sludge to another level
29 Jane Weaver
The Fallen By Watchbird

kind of like a Newsom but less freakish
30Tristania
Rubicon

this was a nice addition after i thought they wouldnt be able to replace their other vocalist with someone good, but she holds her own
31 Indrama
Timescapes

an atmospheric progressive rock album. kind of like Gazpacho with female vocals
32The Hundred In the Hands
The Hundred In the Hands

like The xx but not boring
33Fan Death
Womb of Dreams

similar to 32
34 Fallulah
The Black Cat Neighborhood

pop with some indie and electronica
35 Steso Songs
Now It's Dark

indie stuff
