the often forgotten Anubis Gate released a solid prog metal album this year and it's as good as their other albums. |

this female fronted gothic metal band is different from many other gothic metal bands. they infuse technical death, avant-garde, jazz, and a few other genres, but still surrounding it with a gothic atmosphere. vocals are very good |

the keyboardist from Firewind came out with a solo album last year and it rocks. more on the prog side than the power metal side of his band Firewind. if you love keyboard than this is for you |

one of my fav hip-hop releases of the year. Busdriver again shows off his unique flow and lyrical skills. |

it took me a while to get into Bowie but after i gave Ziggy Stardust a listen i was hooked. later i got this album and a few others and i must say that StS is a beautiful album. dont be a bitch and listen to some Bowie |
9 | | Defect Designer Wax
a tech metal band that is extremely skilled musicians. the vocals are hit and miss but they dont ruin the music. they have some songwriting issues they can develop but overall this was a real surprise |

just got this and im very pleased. better than their debut and just a real joy to listen to |
11 | | Ensiferum From Afar
ive never been a big fan of their first last albums. i thought they were boring, but this one is by far their best and is one of the best folk metal albums to come out in some time |
12 | | Eventide Diaries From the Gallows
a solid melodic death metal band |
13 | | The Fifth Sun The Hunger To Survive

neo-prog. if you liked Dark Matter than this one wont disappoint |
23 | | Jesse Sykes Like, Love, Lust & the Open Halls of the Soul
Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter are one of the best folk/alt. country groups around. Sykes voice is gorgeous and she makes you feel good. a very pleasant listen |
24 | | The Jezabels The Man Is Dead EP
they are an up-and-coming indie pop group. the female vocals arent too poppy which to me is a good thing |
25 | | Junius The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist
finally Junius came out with a new album. this post-metal band continues doing what they did best on their debut and that's create an atmospheric heavy album with waving vocals |
26 | | Kongh Shadows of the Shapeless
not as strong as their debut but it still crushes your brain. sludge metal with a bit of a doom influence. |

fast/aggressive/energetic hardcore with great vocals. |
37 | | Rio En Medio The Bride of Dynamite
psychedelic folk with soothing female vocals. |
38 | | Rose Kemp Unholy Majesty
Kemp's most recent album shows her love for 70's psychedelic rock and even her love from some traditional doom. her vocals are the standout and damn they are good. get her previous album as well as it shows a more intimate side of Kemp |
39 | | Satellite Nostalgia
this neo-prog rock group comes out with their most pop album. some may not like it as much as their earlier albums but i think its their best. vocals have improved and its not as cheesy |
40 | | Sickening Horror The Dead End Experiment
tech death metal with a dark atmosphere. |
41 | | The Soft Machine The Soft Machine
album art wont work but no biggie. this 1968 jazz/prog/psych/folk album was a very important album of it's time. |
42 | | Souljourners Mind Control
excellent prog rock/metal from Temecula, California (not far from me). one of my best friend's younger brother just joined them as their new drummer and even though the drums on this are superb, their new drummer is even better (and only 20 years old). check it out! |
43 | | Spheric Universe Experience Unreal
not as good as Anima but they continue with their prog/power blend of metal. |
44 | | Twisted Into Form Then Comes Affliction To Awaken the Dreamer
a Cynic-esque tech metal band. not a ripoff like that shit band Obscura |
45 | | Vader Necropolis
the newest Vader is an evil slab of death metal. they just keep coming out with impressive albums |
46 | | Veda The Weight Of An Empty Room
alt rock with some of the heartwarming female vocals ive ever heard. she will not only move you emotionally but also physically. one moment youll be standing quietly in your room then you press play and youll be knocked down on your ass. they may go as Vedera now but either way they rule |
47 | | Vengeful The Omnipresent Curse
by far one of the best death metal albums of the year. their sophomore album is not one to be unnoticed. these canadians really shocked me on how good this album is. its technical, but not over the top. it has evil riffs and crushing vocals. the album ends with the epic 21 minute song Transcending |
48 | | Wobbler Afterglow
prog rock that sounds like it belongs with bands like Gentle Giant in the 70's. |
49 | | Xerath Xerath I
good stuff. vocals are ok, but the symphonic addition to the death metal music is a nice tough. |
50 | | Zion I True &Livin'
