i will periodically update this list with classic punk albums. i've chosen to start with ten of my 5s, as they i believe all of them have less than 5 votes each. i hope u enjoi this v v rad production...~ |
45 | | The Marked Men Fix My Brain
One of a few albums I love enough to have purchased on every available format. |
44 | | The Meatmen We're The Meatmen...and You Suck!!
We're the FUCKIN Meatmen, we stomp stomp stomp! |
43 | | Kriegshog Kriegshog
Fucked up, dark Japanese shit. |
42 | | Denver Harbor Scenic
Members of Fenix*Tx, FON, and Pivit playing truly underappreciated pop-punk gems. |
41 | | Black Kites Songs Written While Things Were Changing
More brilliant NJHC.Members would go on to play in niche Sputnik-as-shit band Capacities. |
40 | | Abilities Brother Big
Fun fact: I played guitar for this band for 4 shows before they split up. Atmospheric post-hardcore/alt rock jams. |
39 | | Amazing Transparent Man The Death of the Party
Blinkcore. |
38 | | Benny The Jet Rodriguez Home. Run.
Cali lofi pop-punk trio. Sick 90s reference braj. |
37 | | MDC Multi Death Corporations
Why doesn't this have more ratings? |
36 | | Altered Boys 1st EP
Super neat NJHC band, lashing live show. |
35 | | Radioactivity Radioactivity
The LP of the North American lineup of Jeff Burke's (The Marked Men and various others) Japanese band, The Novice. Get down with THIS sickness. |
34 | | The Klitz Sounds of Memphis, '78
The Klitz were one of Memphis' first punk bands, and were a precursor to the riotgrrl wave of the 80s and 90s. None of their recorded material was released until last October when this fantastic 7" came out. As such, this pioneering band is probably best known for featuring Lesa Aldridge on guitar, who would later go on to play with Big Star. |
33 | | New Junk City New Junk City
While Atlanta is currently the Mecca of North American hip-hop, this album proves that the city's punk rock scene is alive and well. Plus Earthworm Jim cred. |
32 | | God Given Ass Keeping Up Appearances
Another fabulously melodic Finnish punk band. |
31 | | Parquet Courts American Specialties
The almost entirely ignored first release of Parquet Courts. Absolute stunner of a lo-fi, noise rock banger, raw as a bloody hemorrhoid. |
30 | | Token Entry Jaybird
Classic skatepunk NYHC. |
29 | | Ex-Cult Ex-Cult
Weirdo occult punk gem. |
28 | | 76 Percent Uncertain Nothing But Love Songs
Energetic, yet easily overlooked, CTHC band. |
27 | | 013 Takaisin Todellisuuteen
Seminal Finnish punk LP. |
26 | | The Ladies Blow Your Mind
http://gravemistakerecords.bandcamp.com/album/blow-your-mind |
25 | | The Nips King of the Bop b/w Nervous Wreck
Probably most famous for being Shane MacGowan's first band, The Nips (aka Nipple Erectors) recorded several spectacular 7"s in the late 70s, helping to lead the charge of the first wave of British punk. |
24 | | Doctor Nod Walkin' The Dog
Insanely addictive slop-pop. |
23 | | The Criminals The Criminals
One of the best records Recess ever put out. A fantastic comp of a great band's best material. |
22 | | Give Sonic Bloom
Why this band hasn't caught fire on Sputnik is beyond me #flowerhead |
21 | | Southside Stranglers Too Much TV
Criminally overlooked garage punk band from Richmond. |
20 | | Pleasure Leftists Pleasure Leftists
An oft-overlooked band that is producing some of the best deathrock anyone has in the past 30 years, |
19 | | Weston Got Beat Up
A rollicking classic from Pennsylvania. Hilarious lyrics and great musicianship. |
18 | | Fearless Iranians From Hell Holy War
The 2nd LP from the militant Iranian-American group of punks. "Forced Down Your Throat," is a true punk anthem. The averages of all three of their LPs in the database are smdh low. |
17 | | The Shirks Cry Cry Cry
The Shirks are a lovely little band based in D.C. that play insanely addictive garage rock. Do you want to be on time for a good time? |
16 | | YDI A Place in the Sun
One of Philadelphia's finest hardcore bands of all-time. It's pronounced "why die" |
15 | | Suicide Squad I Hate School
I Hate School features too fantastically snotty and ripping tracks from one of Australia's first (and best) punk acts. I would be willing to wager they were among the earliest Aussie punk bands to feature a female singer. I was able to score the long-awaited and much needed repress of this from one of my favorite punk labels, Katorga Works. |
14 | | Selfish Cause Pain
A oft-overlooked crossover gem from one of Finland's finest bands of the previous decade. |
13 | | Blanks 77 Killer Blanks
Another fantastic album from New Jersey. This band's biggest claim to fame, however, is having AFI's founding guitarist Geoff Kresge as one of its members. |
12 | | VCR Greatest Hits
A 7" compilation of exceptionally talented Toronto punks, VCR. This was pressed in extremely limited quantities, and due to their popularity in their respective scene, it sold out of nearly every distro that stocked it almost instantaneously. |
11 | | Adrenalin O.D. The Wacky Hi-Jinks Of Adrenalin O.D.
One of New Jersey's most eclectically eccentric punk bands, Adrenalin O.D, still puts on a great show if you have the rare opportunity to see them. |
10 | | Moving Targets Burning In Water
A more melodic Husker Du. Need I say more? |
9 | | Jones Very New Life For Lies
One of punk legend Vic Bondi's bands, Jones Very was probably the cream of the crop of the criminally overlooked late 80s-early 90s emo bands. |
8 | | Aztlan Underground Decolonize
From the barrios of LA comes Aztlan Underground, a band with rich history in the Native American punk scene. This is a rap album, but across their three LPs, Aztlan Underground evolves from a traditionally Native-inspired rap group to a full-on post-punk, post-Swans wall of sound. Highly recommended. |
7 | | Burning Kitchen Many Wonder About the Meaning of Life
Sweden's finest, and one of the most purely quotable punk bands of all-time. "I'll tell you all a secret, it's not about your hair. Punk means so much more than the clothes that you wear." |
6 | | Purpose Art As A Weapon
One of New Jersey's most seminal punk bands. Re: my soundoff |
5 | | Seaweed Spanaway
One of the greatest bands produced by the "Seattle Explosion." Also one of the best grunge albums ever produced, fucka Nirvana. |
4 | | The Dwarves The Dwarves Are Young and Good Looking
3.6 average smdh. One of the greatest Chicago-by-way-of-Cali punk albums of all time. |
3 | | Shift (NY) Spacesuit
Spacesuit is the eponymous full-length of New York post-hardcore legends, Shift. Shift was an extremely popular band within the NYHC, but never quite achieved the widespread fame of many of their peers. Their music is like a more radio-friendly version of early Swiz records. |
2 | | No Allegiance Mad
No Allegiance are a critically overlooked early hardcore band from Germany. They performed a style of music similar to early Dischord bands. Their albums also had totally rad artwork. |
1 | | Carbonas Carbonas II
Carbonas were a famous punk band from Atlanta, Georgia, fronted by the ultra-charismatic (as well as totally eccentric) GG King. Their music was fairly straightforward garage rock with a melodic twist. Their second self-titled, as well as third and final LP, is sure to please any fans of The Marked Men, Potential Johns, or Chinese Telephones. |
