Easy overlooked & highly interesting records 2022

List with records which i would have like to see more often in the AOTY-lists out there.
1Sum of R
Lahbryce

Experimental wall-of-sound metal sounding like Cult Of Luna went maniac. Fantastic and haunting vocals.
2Astral Tomb
Soulgazer

Experimental, trippy and unconventional death metal. Production is raw and wild.
3Black Fucking Cancer
Procreate Inverse

Devastating and relentless black metal. This record is a merciless and intense listen.
4Witch Fever
Congregation

Young british band with massive power. The album is straightforward fun and has a great groove over the whole distance.
5Pinkshift
Love Me Forever

Fantastic punk or post-hardcore with very strong and dominant female vocals. Great energy and vocal lines.
6Hours Of Worship
The Cold That You Left

You find an outstanding and unique darkwave gothic sound on this one. Sad and emotional stuff.
7Bong-Ra (NLD)
Meditations

A heavy rocking experimental jazzy doom monster.
8Gudsforladt
Friendship, Love and War

Very charming black metal record with a folky feelings.
9Rigorous Institution
Cainsmarsh

Original-sounding and exciting genre mix which combines crust-punk and black metal in a way that you have to think of the 80ies, UK sound and a long forgotten anarcho spirit.
10Candelabrum
Nocturnal Trance

Eerie but beautiful mysterious low-fi black metal with a trancelike atmosphere. Very melancholic and great melodies.
11Persher
Man with the Magic Soap

Fantastic sludgy industrial metal created by techno and ambient musicians. The hooks are sky high and the sound is ultraheavy and dry.
12Temple Guard
Spear of the Revenant

An absolutely fun must-listen. This is Bolt Thrower goes metalcore. Brutal and on point.
13deathcrash
Return

Beautiful and sad slowcorish music which reminds me of Rivulets meets The Appleseed Cast.
14Just Mustard
Heart Under

Pop (?) music with an totally menacing noise in the back. In reality this is pretty heavy music.
15Proper.
The Great American Novel

Pretty cool alternative-indie-whatever-emo allrounder record. With each song this album is making a twist.
16Asunojokei
Island

Fantastic post black metal with a blackgaze and post hardcore edge. You have to listen carefully that this long record can grow on you. A true genre gem. Do not overlook this.
17Long Knife
Curb Stomp Earth

Curb Stomp Earth is a tight punk masterpiece with a lot of surprises like horror-synths, a jazzy horn, some rock'n'roll and metallic stuff. You can think of Poison Idea.
18Deadbody
The Requiem

Metalcore without being metalcore. Great hardcore record with a D.I.Y.-spirit.
19Cold Gawd
God Get Me the Fuck Out of Here

If you like your shoegaze rocking hard and sounding more warm than cold, this is your thing.
20Scarcity
Aveilut

Mix of totalism drone with black metal vocals and spirit. This is digging into your deepest and then holding something tight there until your listen is over.
21Gehenna (USA)
Negative Hardcore

Gehenna are a hardcore legend and the band didn't lose a thing on their comeback here. This is furious muddy blackened hardcore at its best. If you are into black metal and open minded, this could be THE hardcore record for you.
22Darkest Era
Wither On The Vine

Totally fine metal mix for metal lovers which flows so well over its full duration. The vocals are awesome and the music itself could please heavy and black metal fans as well. It reminds me of a way more friendly version of Primordial.
23In Aphelion
Moribund

The ultimate melodic black metal album. Production is clean & crystal clear to highlight the precision of the music. Highlights are for sure the excellent guitar leads and an overall fun heavy metal feeling. If a metal fan who isn't into black metal has to listen to only one black metal album, then it has to be this. It is also very accessible.
24Ellende
Ellenbogengesellschaft

Beautiful austrian post black metal. Most of its time you can call it blackgaze also. Ellende did a great job on being melancholic and harsh at the same time.
25Devil's Witches
In All Her Forms

A wonderful doomy and psychedelic trip through the occult.
26 Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard
The Harvest

Sci-Fi psychedelic doom made as an everflowing concept album.
27Armed For Apocalypse
Ritual Violence

Merciless hardcore sludge with the pedal heavy on the metal.
28Mares Of Thrace
The Exile

Smart and mighty sludge record.
29Scalpture
Feldwärts

One of the best death metal records of the year.
30Firtan
Marter

Dreamy and gazy black metal.
31Skin Failure
Radillac

Very fun crossover record.
32Pestilength
Basom Gryphos

Tricky and atmospheric black death metal album.
33Petrol Girls
Baby

Fantastic angry and highly energetic post hardcore record.
34Grin
Phantom Knocks

Psychedelic stoner rock with a lot of twists.
35Tome of the Unreplenished
Earthbound

Progressive black metal which has a kind of peaceful atmosphere.
36Stormruler
Sacred Rites & Black Magick

Highly entertaining melodic black metal album which is epic and with a lot of variety.
37GGU:LL
Ex Est

Blackened post metal with a lot of doom, drone and a little bit sludge. Music is often slow and menacing. Fantastic artwork and overall atmosphere.
38Obsidious
Iconic

This should be much more known here in the community. Perfect progressive technichal death metal from the Obscura guys. It is just like Dream Theater went Death Metal.
39Absent In Body
Plague God

Reduced to a fascinating simplicity without being dull or boring. Menacing record.
40Final Light
Final Light
41Vein.fm
This World Is Going to Ruin You

Highly energetic and angry industrial hardcore beast.
42Spice (USA-CA)
Viv

Indie with breakdowns. Great songwriting here.
43Candy
Heaven Is Here

Musically this is total terror. When side a is done, you can chose to listen to some songs and side a again or to step down to hell with side b.
44Wormrot
Hiss

Highly creative grindcore which mixes a lot of other metal genres in. Listening is so much fun here.
45Conjurer (UK)
Pathos

Massive record which recommends a lot of attention. I hear a lot of genres here from sludge and metalcore over to screamo and post rock parts but it all fits together.
46Worm Shepherd
Ritual Hymns

At first listen Ritual Hymns could sound bland: production is harsh, cold and flat plus the music lacks creativity and outstanding moments. But in the end i have to admit that Worm Shepherd did this symphonic blackened death metal core as great as the genre kings Lorna Shore. It grows until you will hear an album full of hits and pure lightweight metal entertainment.
47KEN mode
Null

This noise hardcore band has already been out for a long time but they still keep getting better and fresher with each album.
48Gillian Carter
Salvation Through Misery

Gillian Carter left the DIY-screamo path on this one. But they stay relevant. Their hardcore is still screamo-esk but is now presented with a lot of distortion in the vocals and stands for an overall modern genre approach. You surely have to like the distorted vocals to find access to this album. Rage level is high on this one. Love it for being so consequent over the whole playtime.
49VR Sex
Rough Dimension

High class post punk gothic hymns for everybody.
50SRSQ
Ever Crashing

Songs are little bit long but this is fantastic indie dream pop.
51Murderbait
Nostalgia Like Cancer
52Cailleach Calling
Dreams Of Fragmentation
53Hoaxed
Two Shadows
54Bleached Cross
Bleached Cross
55Wulven
I Have Seen The End and It Is Beautiful
56Knifeplay
Animal Drowning
57Skullcrusher
Quiet the Room
58Ruine
Révolte et Crânerie Paysanne
59Vaura
Vista of Deviant Anatomies
