06.03.22 | Some good stuff on here. Hangman's Hymn is such a ripper, probably my favorite Sigh although I'd say Imaginary Sonicscape is their experimental essential record. Your list made my decide to put on The Kovenant - Animatronic |
FunJan
06.03.22 | Forgot The Kovenant! :) |
Sinternet
06.03.22 | i fail to see the experimental part on most of these |
FunJan
06.03.22 | Yes, it is difficult to use 'experimental' as an description here. But how would you call them? I think the bands did experimentation on their albums here. |
Egarran
06.03.22 | I love a lot of these albums but I never thought of them as experimental. Vovin??
Ah I see this point has been made already, carry on. |
TheSpirit
06.03.22 | it is fine to call these experimental |
DungeonBoy
06.03.22 | I think it's fair to say a lot of these did see the artists branching out into more experimental territories to their sound. I'd include certain albums from Katatonia and Anathema personally in the mix, although it's trickier when bands gradually shift into new directions |
DungeonBoy
06.03.22 | Heritage would fit nice into this, love it or hate it, they went to a totally new sound from one album to the next
but then again for me it's not an essential Opeth, it's personally the opposite. |
Egarran
06.03.22 | OK for me it would be a huge stretch to call Heritage experimental. |
Colliiiin
06.03.22 | Nice list. 6 doesn’t get enough love, actually band as a whole doesn’t. Really love A Umbra Omega.
I would def add Maudlin of the Well, Leaving Your Body Map or Bath (both masterpieces imo). As well some other bands like Blut Aus Nord, Khanate, Liturgy, Abruptum and Harvey Milk. |
DungeonBoy
06.03.22 | Egarran I think you are missing FunJan's point and context of a band experimenting with a new sound/direction. |
TheSpirit
06.03.22 | some of these are genuinely experimental as well... some of ya'll weird frfr |
Sinternet
06.03.22 | oh its the angle of the band experimenting outside their comfort zone rather than being actual experimental music, list makes more sense now |
Egarran
06.03.22 | It does?
DBoy, most of these albums are just how the band sounds. No experimenting with anything. Opeth is a pretty glaring example. |
rockarollacola
06.03.22 | No Mr. Bungle? |
naughtcturnal
06.04.22 | 666 international is a fucking masterpiece |
teamster
06.04.22 | Kalasia - Cybion |
