05.26.22 | My advice to 18 year old me. Start college as soon as possible and take it seriously the first try, don't do 4 years of hard labor before starting college. Save money and buy property / Stocks, the sooner the better |

05.26.22 | I would've told myself not to be scared of college. |

05.26.22 | Congrats my young trashcan pal!
I would tell myself to apply myself harder in college and not drop out so I don't end up working shitty dead end jobs throughout my 20's. |

Things only get more and more complicated from here on out brother. I guess the advice I’d give my graduate self is go see a doctor about your mental health stat and also fuck around as hard as humanly possibly while you still can |

05.26.22 | To 18-year-old me:
College may seem hard at first in the fall, but you'll get used to it. Be happy that, in four years, you'll have a Bachelor's degree, which will help you have something to fall back on in case your dream job doesn't pan out. |

Thanks for the kind words y'all! |

05.26.22 | 18 year old me changed majors like 4 times in the first year and then quit because none of it was worth $60k of debt. Only do a major you have some serious passion about or it'll either be a massive waste of time and money. |

05.26.22 | first off huge congrats
secondly, I'd tell my graduating 17 year olf self to stop being a loser who only listens to metalcore and post hardcore.
I started off as a vet tech major and hated it, switched to computer science and never looked back. So just really try and find something you want to do, don't lock yourself into one path |

05.26.22 | Learn a trade [2] college is a scam unless you're absolutely committed to your major. |

05.26.22 | Congrats my man! I remember posting about this when I graduated back in 2015.
My advice is to embrace the next chapter of your life with excitement. It can only get better or worse from here, and the people who let life get worse are not the people you want to identify with. Adulting can be shit, but it can be incredible. People only talk about the shitty aspects I feel, but you are now at an opportunity to express yourself, your happiness, and your desire to be alive.
College is good if you know what you want to do. I don't agree that it's a scam, but it can be an extreme waste of money and emotional strength if done wrong. Only go if you're passionate about it or if you have a well-set contingency plan. My parents forced me to go to a college of their choosing, for a major of their choosing, and it was a complete trainwreck. At that time, it was the lowest I had ever been, and it set forth years of depression, loathing, and misfortune. I'm in college a second time at a university I actually chose myself, in a major that interests me, in a place that I love living in, and I've never been more successful.
Life is beautiful, but know you aren't alone when you struggle. You aren't alone when you're miserable. You're just a few steps away from success. These are the things I'd tell myself when I was 18, because nobody was willing to tell me this when it could've made a difference. I'm so glad I got diagnosed with BPD at 23, because for some people it could be never.
This might've been long and shmaltzy but I really wish somebody would've told me these things when I was your age. Instead, I was just told that I was stupid, foolish, that my problems weren't real, that I was just being a big pussy, even that I was making it up for attention. I started to believe them and I turned to drugs to throw a blanket over my pre-diagnosed BPD. It doesn't have to be that way. I lost eight years of "the best years of my life" but i'll use that experience to make the best lifetime I could ever have. Hopefully you can do the same without losing that time. |
Purpl3Spartan
05.27.22 | That was really beautiful.

05.29.22 | You’re not free, your doom is at hand |
Heythereman
05.29.22 | I would spend the time to find what you actually want to do. Then go to university for that. Don't just do a random major
Also. Take risks, but only take small risks. A small risk here and there goes a long way. But taking no risks at all is bad too |
Heythereman
05.29.22 | It's also important to be comfortable when you go to school. You have to motivate yourself to stick with the work for many years. If your situation isn't supportive you will not succeed. People love to glorify how they made it through university in the worst conditions possible. But those are stories, not real life
And university is not the place to party. Get a dorm where you're free from distractions. Its easier to go find a party when you're done working than it is to do work in the middle of a party |
Purpl3Spartan
05.29.22 | I appreciate all the input y’all
My current plan is to go to community college and figure out what I want to do while I get my general ed and continue my studies in Spanish. I’m staying home and saving |

05.29.22 | Purp, it’s scary; I was homeschooled as well from k thru highschool. Fuckass props, bro.
Congratulations on graduation, and you kinda took the words out of my mouth; unless you know EXACTLY what you wanna do as a career, doing a 2 year college and at least knocking out your Associates is the way to go, as it gives you time to figure out what you wanna do, what you like. That’s what I did and I changed majors 3 times lol. Also what Jay said would be my advice as well. Apply yourself and don’t worry that you’re missing out on shit, because you’re not. I took 2 years off because of self-doubt and I regret it because it’s harder now to get back in than if I took a semester. Also, if you’re still unsure of it all, at least trades will ALWAYS be in demand and a guaranteed source of income. And it’ll be practical knowledge that'll benefit you through your life. |
Emim
05.29.22 | I also was homeschooled (well chartered, so like 2 days on site per week) and loved it. I could wake up at ten finish my homework by lunch and have the rest of the day off.
Also what uzu said is great advice. Knocking out your associates degree at a community is cheaper and lets you get acclimated while still moving forward. Just don't be me and take only the fun classes and never actually finish your GE 😬 |
Heythereman
05.30.22 | I also would say dont do a long distance relationships or date anyone youre not going to be living in the same town as. Have all of your primary interests be local. But if youre living at home that shouldn't be an issue |

05.30.22 | Congrats on graduating!! |
eureka
05.30.22 | congratulations fellow homeschooler!!!
my advice would be only to go to college if you plan on majoring in something STEM-oriented, otherwise learn a trade. the point of college is to get advanced skills that make you marketable in the job market - major in something that makes money but doesn't make you miserable. find your ikigai.
i second the route of community college classes for general ed (saved a ton of money myself this way) but would caution you not to actively pursue an Associate's since it's not really worth anything. figure out what you want to do, racking up the courses that you can put to any major, and then apply/transfer into a more reputable school.
also don't forget that as an adult now you're in control of your life for better or worse - seek advice from others but don't let other people try to mold your life to their interests. best of luck! |

05.30.22 | wtf someone younger than me. damn wonder how many there are nowadays |

05.30.22 | Most of my advice would be too specific to my dumb ass when i was that age to be useful for you probably. Go to therapy maybe lol. |
