GREAT THEME! :D I've been thinking of doing this one.
I choose:
"Eisbär" by Grauzone (from their single listed as Eisbaer on Sputnik)
It's about being sad and wishing you were a polar bear, so you wouldn't be sad anymore. It's also all in German.

had been considering a Burzum track or something off Prurient's Frozen Niagara Falls, but I decided against it for something a little more chill and not so harrowing and abrasive... plus this only has 3 ratings on here and a lot of people know Burzum and Prurient (and the original track I was gonna pick that wasn't on YouTube was the original 2002 version of "Stays Demons" by Nadja... the album (Touched) got remade in 2007 and those versions of the songs are the only ones uploaded on YouTube right now from the looks of it... haven't listened to this version of the album but I believe it is quite a bit different) |

12.03.20 | Smallpeople - Pulsing electronic beat, light electronic effects in the background. At 7+ minutes, this one's gonna be a long one. Hmm. This one's all about the cold, not about the language, huh? OK. Nice so far. Kind of like a rave in an igloo. (And nice sketch of a polar bear on the album cover.) Pretty repetitive. I just don't get the idea of dance music for anything other than dancing. I always feel like it starts out OK, but then it doesn't go anywhere. porcupinetheater
12.04.20 | 1. Zrni - Kind of in one ear and out the other. Unobtrusive factory setting voice, occasional key textures that don't do much for atmosphere, rhythms that flirt with funkiness but come up shy of getting things moving. Couple hollers here and there are pretty cool. 2.5
2. Tanya Tagaq - All hazy and ethereal and a pretty damn singular voice to make it distinct and memorable. Compelling shit for sure, enough to know I'll come back to try figuring out how I feel 'bout the thing. 3.4
3. Smallpeople - Meh, minimalism on its own doesn't really feel cold, and don't hear much to add an atmosphere that might get it there. Gets a little closer at the halfway point adding the minor key synth vamp in the background, but still feels like a demo you'd pop on a phone in the middle of the night to remember a musical idea you could get to proper work on in the morning. Sorry, Octo! 2.3
4. Myss Keta - Song bangs. EP bangs. 4.0 |

12.04.20 | Myss Keta - Her again, huh? I liked the first rec we got for her (the "My house, my rules" song). The more recent ones have been kind of bland. But so far, people seem to be liking this one, so let's see. Typical electronic beat opening. Sounds like something you might hear late night at a strip club. (Um, not that I'd know.) I don't know. The music isn't bad, but her prattling on isn't doing anything for me. 3? |

12.07.20 | So bouncy 😍💓 |
porcupinetheater
12.07.20 | 6. Grauzone - Fuck yeah, this is where it's at. After the ambient opening, the way the rhythm spends a couple bars clarifying itself sets a killer tone that the kraut new-wave-at-the-arcade jam lives the fuck up to. Sweet. And then the song ends and the sax decides it isn't quite done yet, bonus 0.1. 4.1
7. Indigo Jam Unit - We all got our short-circuits, shit that fast tracks a tune straight into our respective good-books. Free form Stand-up bass swings are one of mine. The way it still takes a moment here or there to find the negative space in the middle of a pretty busy groove is just the icing on the cake. 4.3 |

12.07.20 | Indigo Jam Unit - Bassline that sounds like the beginning of an Anthony Fantano "Let's Argue" segment. Drums kick in, followed by some snazzy piano. This is well played, but does nothing for me. It's something that should be a palate cleanser between actual songs, or what the band plays when the singer is taking a bathroom break. 2.8 |

I do have a problem with instrumental rock music, but for jazz it's naturally super common to stick with instrumental. I never even wondered what they would be like with vocals actually, since I never missed them. Funny that you experience it as such a problematic thing in their music! |

12.07.20 | #1 this is alright... might like it better in context of the whole album... vocals are pretty front and center which makes it hard for me not to be thinking about how I don't understand a word the guy is saying while listening... sounded like it was gonna be pretty bare bones at the beginning so it was nice when some of the different instrumentation starts coming in 3.3
#2 was pretty comfy at first and cute walrus to plug your brain into, but then it started to get a little weird... it's ok though walrus power so bonus points 3.6
#3 cute bear - would hug and get mauled by... as for the song, I'm a bit partial to this kind of stuff - I absolutely love ambient techno - so this is right up my alley... I like how the different pieces come in and out at various times as the song progresses; this should be in my library 4.2 |

5. Come As You Are - Not a big fan of the chorus and the fact that it reoccurs a lot doesn't help. However, the instrumentation is nice and it does put me in a holiday mood. 3.2
6. Eisbar - starts with nice ambience. The bass is great and i love the sporadic noise coming between verses. I'm usually a fan of sax, but i'm not feeling in this instance. Overall, though, this rules. 3.9

12.08.20 | 7. Bounce - yeah this jams quite a bit. Drums are very nice. It did feel somewhat directionless to me, which i suppose you'll get from a jam unit, but it did make it a bit harder for me latch onto it. 3.5 |

12.08.20 | Rubio - Looks like the Senator from Florida has time to make music videos. OK, cool. Bring it Marco. ... Heeeyyyy! ... This isn't Marco. "Snowblind"
Weird, poppy, and pretty all at once. I don't know how to feel about this, but it was cool so...
3.4/5
"Black Ice"
House music is one of those genres I have yet to fully get, but I suppose the quirkier side of it is more interesting. This so far is just energetic percussion with some chill electronics. Eh... three and a half minutes in and this is still so minimal. Not for me.
2.7/5
"GMBH"
I'm too gay for this music video. Her singing is trying really hard to be sexy and maybe it's accomplishing that, but I can't tell. The music is boring though.
2.5/5
"Come As You Are"
Oh, it's a mix of Spanish and English. Oh god steel drums mixed with classic rock, it's Hawaiian shirt-wearing dad on vacation music, isn't it? Nah, boring.
2.5/5
"Bounce"
Good ass bass and drums! Keeps changing it up to keep it fresh, but the bass retains a similar tone. Yeah, this is well-made stuff. Probably never going to listen to it again though.
3.8/5
"Nino Iceberg"
Is this sampling "Blackstar" by David Bowie or what? This was an okay trip hop song. The use of a famous sample felt a bit distracting though I suppose.

12.09.20 | okay, let's see:
1. Upbeat and pretty standard. Maybe if I understood the language my sentiments would change. I like some peculiarities here and there, but nothing really sticks out. I love the sound of the language, tho. (2.9)
2. I really liked this one, it's not often you come across Inuk songs. That's a language or sth like yodeling? The general aesthetic of it won my heart (3.7)
3. Derpy Polar Bear and great beats to relax/built an igloo to. (although, it'd probably melt right away, as this is so tropical) (3.6)
4. ''GMBH'' a.k.a. ''Hot songs that make you feel hot in this time of cold'', but actually a proletariat fantasy (3.5)
5. I remember Nirvana differently (2.5). No jokes, tho, this comes off as an Ad tune for a hotel in Varadero.
6. I want to be an icebear, too. A post-punkish (???) song that feels a bit flat, though I liked the weird electric sounds (3.2)
7. ''Bounce'' bops hard. I can already hear my friends whining from overplaying it in parties (in 2024 or somewhen later, anyway...) (4)
8. Am I the only one getting huge Blackstar vibes from the instruments??? Great pace and vocals, the last part is sooooo smokey, wish it lasted longer. (4.2)
9. Sounds like generic pop songs of the '00s, but the lyrics kind of compensate, so I think in linguistic context I'd really like the tone of it. Good job. +0.2 for lyrics telling stories (3.2) |

12.09.20 | Hey Mythodea. Tanya is an Inuk (singular for Inuit) throat singer from Iqaluktuuttiaq, Nunavut, Canada.

The throat singing is like a game traditionally done by two women.

Mythodea

12.10.20 | 10 - Redbull - It's cool and groovy and pleasant to listen to and I barely remember it when it's done. An exact perfect rating midpoint. 3.0 |
Divaman
12.10.20 | Infinit - Dreamy sounds, followed by - ugh! French hip-hop. Why do you hurt me so, dedex? Oh well ... it's actually better than American hip-hop. At least I can't understand the curse words. 2.4 |
Mythodea
12.10.20 | I suck so much at French, I didn't even realize in what language Redbull was. The song's production and bass line are good, but nothing sticks out. I think the whole point of hip-hop/rap is how the lyrics' content relates to the music, so I can't truly rate this song. What I got off it was close to nothing - 2. |
Egarran
12.10.20 | Dva utonulí na mělčině řeky Rio Grande - They squeezed a lot of movements in there and eventually it got really good. The melody gave me Blue Jay Ray vibes. 3.8/5
Snowblind - On the other hand this got more annoying as the song went on. 3/5
Black Ice - Stoked to find out why people love this. *looks at watch* Err guys nothing is happening. It's gonna be a long 7 minutes, isn't it? I want some E. Alright I fast forwarded a couple of times and it seems nothing of value was lost. 2.3/5
GMBH - Well it's worth a giggle innit. 2.5/5
Come As You Are - porcupinetheater said it perfectly. I just want to run away from this. 2/5 |

I only knew what language it was because someone has been kind enough to list the language for each song in the descriptions. |

12.10.20 | The first lyrics have such a thick accent, I thought it was an eastern european language. It was only after a while I was like ''Oh, yeah, now I see the frenchness of it all''...

12.11.20 | The Felice Brothers - Quiet opening. Soft, slow guitar and male vocal. I don't know. OK, but kind of boring. 2.8. |
Divaman
12.12.20 | Mono - Hmm. More than 11 mins. OK, let's see if I can't squeeze this in before I have to drive my daughter to work. Quiet keyboards. Sounds very regal right now. Waiting for some electric guitars to burst out. ... Still waiting. Nope. Keyboards just got louder instead. Same pace. OK. 3 and a half mins in, and I still feel like this is intro. Guess this is an instrumental, huh? Music does kind of go w/picture on the album cover of a boy and a girl holding hands and floating on the water. Almost 6 mins in. Guess this is the body of the song, not intro. It's pretty enough. Oops, just heard my daughter's bedroom door. Still have time. She has to use the facilities and such. Keep going, Mono. Maybe pick up the pace a bit, though. Percussion getting heavier. Think we're building towards the climax. 8 and a half mins now. Daughter's in the bathroom. You guys better step it up a little. Now this part feels like it's stuck in repeat. A bit too much cymbal for my taste. I get it, this is the big ending, but you don't have to be so noisy about it. OK. Ending now. Pretty enough, but I was hoping for more. 3.2. |

12.13.20 | Mono - Motherfuckin' TREMS.
Seeing them perform this in a cemetery a couple years back is still one of the most potent show moments I've ever had. 4.5, and it ain't even the strongest slice of crescendancholy on that record |
Divaman
12.13.20 | Lifafa - I've got hopes for this one, not sure why. Let's see. Synthesized accordion (?) opening. Slow intro vocal, and then the song picks up, w/some very strange percussion. Hmm. It was OK, but it didn't really go anywhere. 3.0. |
dedex
12.14.20 | 12. Ashes in the Snow - yes ofc 4.7
13. Jaago - pleasant, but it did end quite abruptly. 3.1
14. Type LK-60YA - cold ambient techno. while it does work at setting a mood, it did felt too subdued for me. 3.0 |
Mythodea
12.14.20 | 11. Goddamn You, Jim: such a cold cold song, suffocating even. The sliding on the cello (?, probably sth like that, I can't put my finger on it) on 2:25 feels really like the wind sweeping by a small house in the middle of a vast American medow. (4.5)
12. Ashes in the Snow: I'm not into instrumental post-rock, I find it a bit boring. Mono is not an exception, even if I found that explosion on the seventh minute mark a pleasure. Mostly suprised by the dynamic drumming, rather than the tremolo picking. (3)
13. Jaago - Vocals really close to mourning, nice warm melody and then the song goes left-field. Awesome, awesome, awesome. (4.0)
14. Nice beats and buzzes, and as dedex says, it's quite atmospheric. I would probably appreciate it more in an album context rather than on its own. I was expecting sth to unfold towards the end, but it stayed on its track without any development, feeling like a short break. (3) |
Divaman
12.14.20 | Council Estate Electronics - Clicking sort of electronic percussion with what almost sounds like car horns. Hmm. Two minutes in, and we're still just kind of pulsating along. Yeah, I've heard worse, but this is more a collection of sounds than a song. 2.6 |
Mythodea
12.14.20 | Thanks to the kind soul who took the time to fill my boxes. I'd have done it earlier, but the spreadsheet wasn't available for some reason. I changed one song to 4, though |

12.15.20 | 13 - Jaago - Wow, that pick up in the last third was a nice surprise that blended in really smooth to the spring evening atmosphere of the whole thing, and the different layers of instruments coming through, a few bars of a harp flourish... pretty wow'ed by this one. 4.3
14 - Council Estate Electronics - Feel like a couple points are tacked on to this rating just from how good the project's name is at setting up the specificity of the vibe, but fuck it works. Been living out of the 12th floors of dingy apartment blocks for awhile now, and this certainly captures staring blankly out the November windows doing not much. 4.0
15 - Child of Cold - Dungeon Synth just doesn't hit me like it used to. The corny little tinkling key line undercuts the cold more than it helps it. Still has a certain nostlagia factor, but ehhh 2.5 |

12.15.20 | 15. Child Of Cold - s p o o k y!!! I like it but it's not evolving enough to my taste. 3.0 |

12.15.20 | Cain - Cold wind blowing. Hmm. Sounds almost like a Danny Elfman, "Nightmare Before Christmas" type of thing. Almost 8 minutes long. Was watching a live cam the other night from Saint Petersburg, Russia. There was some street traffic, and a broad sidewalk that led into some kind of underpass (possibly into an underground train?). And it looked like there was a thin glaze of ice on the ground. And this guy came out of the underpass, apparently drunk off his ass. At first, he was moving slowly, and then he just stopped. He was teetering from side to side, and people (just a handful) were walking around him on both sides. And he was swaying, like he wanted to move on, but couldn't quite call up the mental focus to do it. He looked for all the world like the combination of the ice on the ground and his own drunken state were going to cause him to do a dangerous face plant right on the sidewalk. And I was trying to think of if there was anything I could do if he did, but what? How would I call a cop in Saint Petersburg? It's not like I speak a word of Russian. I watched him for like ten or fifteen minutes, until my son called me to do something and distracted me. I don't know if he fell, or if someone helped him, or if he finally somehow made his way home. This song was kind of like that. 3.1 |

12.16.20 | 15. Cain - Child of Cold: okay, this one falls somewhere between annoying mobile game music and awesome 90's video-game music. Not sth I am accustomed to, but wouldn't listen to the whole album because of it. 3.
16. Fastpohomen - Himlen: I didn't get any of the lyrics, oc, and while the stripped down approach was pleasant, this went from ''hmmm'' to ''meh'' quite soon. 2.5. |

12.17.20 | Trist - Ooo, that album cover looks cold. Heavy guitar intro, though. That doesn't go w/the album cover? Shit, another band where the drummer is in love with his cymbal. "Hi, I play in a rock band! I like to make a lot of noise!" Bite me. OK, a Czech doom metal band, huh? They're not doing much for me. I feel like they're just playing the same riff over and over. Maybe that's why the album is called "Nostalgie". "Hey, remember when we played that one riff over and over?" "Yeah, that was great!" ... You know what would be really great? If someone shoved the cymbals up that drummer's asshole. I don't know. 2.3 |

Bounce - Now that's the good stuff. Love that bass sound. Nice drums too. 4.2/5
Niño Iceberg - Sweet atmosphere on this. More good bass. Somewhat drained of joy. 4/5
Het Regent Zonnestralen - I hope it's the lyrics that makes this so popular. 2.8/5
Redbull - Ehh I didn't even notice this was playing. Song seems to do nothing for me. 2.5/5 |
Divaman
12.18.20 | Sigur Ros - I haven't listened to this album in ages. I think I've always liked the idea of Sigur Ros more than I actually enjoy their music. Slow build intro. Quiet piano, gradually rising to full volume. Slow, and pretty enough. But kind of boring. Fairly lush musically, I guess. Whoa, really deconstructs at the end there. I'll still give it a 3.0 |
Pangea
12.19.20 | Ashes in the Snow - I never really listened to Mono despite my love for post rock. This song is really good and pretty (and it has violins!). I should check their stuff i guess. 4.5
Jaago - Not really into his vocals, but this is cool otherwise. The moment the beats came in was really nice. 3.4
Type LK-60YA - yeahh cool shit. Ice cold atmosphere & beats. 3.7

12.19.20 | Nice rating for Bounce Egarran! Also yes the lyrics tell a nice story about a dude who reads in the paper that he's dead, which offers him the opportunity to start over with a clean slate. It's very nicely told too. |
Divaman
12.19.20 | Ta Paidia Tis Paleotitas - Vaguely ominous start. Piano intro. Male vocalist singing quietly in Greek. Some strings in the mix now. Suddenly, he's gotten kind of passionate. Don't know about what, of course. I'll guess a lost love. That would go with the music. Or maybe about how sad life is. Or he's got VD. Something sad. Ooo, 5 minutes in, and suddenly he's got a female backup singer. Unexpected, and nice. I don't know. I'm not loving the song as a whole, but there are some nice elements. 3.1 |
Mythodea
12.19.20 | It's indeed about lost love, but the lyrics go way beyond that. It's about dead-ends in life, identity crisis and of course people who got to meet each other... My favourite lyric must be
''Some people are simply made
to love each other in a parallel universe -
I mean to say we'll never be alone
you and me''
I was pondering on translating the whole thing, but I guess that's not the point. |

12.19.20 | Nostalgie II - Okay, this is all about atmosphere and I can imagine my 15y.o. self falling in love with all the aesthetic that surrounds it. I appreciate that the filth is balanced, and not lo-fi for the sake of it. Generally, though, I'd want it with a general climax - not poignant per se, but leading somewhere. 3.0
Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása - Wow, such a pleasant surprise. This felt like a celebration of melody at times, with its floydian passages and the orchestral elements. Beautiful, beautifu, a thousand times beautiful. I always knew I should check Sigur Ros, but thought I wouldn't like them because I'm not in post rock. However this might be my top submission so far. 4.8 |

12.21.20 | 16 - Damn, this is so close to be hopeless indie trash, but there's actually some really cool subtle textures happening and the rhythm is actually loose enough to add some genuine groove. Left a smile. 3.3
17 - Nice. Rating delayed because it's snowing lightly outside and Ima go for a walk and listen to it out there. Current rating environment would be *invalid*
18 - Sigur Ros. It's the best Sigur Ros album. Not the best on the record though. Same story as Mono. -0.1 because there's fewer fucking sick tremz. +0.1 back for a discordant string outro. 4.5
19 - Not typing that out - Something about that subtle minor key dissonance and the detached vocals is just a little bit eerie and unsettling. Love it, love it love it. But once the build starts kicking, it loses a little personality. (Relatively speaking, those horns/string sections still kill) 4.3
20 - Nepal - Chill. Cool production. Rapping's kind of uninspired, not much personality. Would love this to be instrumental. 2.9 |

2.6/5
"Goddamn You, Jim"
This would make good snuggling music. I appreciate this atmosphere, it's a winter plain in Oklahoma. Even though I've never been there.
4/5
"Ashes in the Snow"
Twinkling and slow guitar, and it's 11 minutes. This better be good. 5 minutes in and I'm bored. My attention span is not thriving with this slow buildup minimalism.

2.4/5
"Himlen"
What is a forest-reggae band? lol There's the reggae part. Maybe the acoustic guitar is the forest. Regardless, this is decent and stands out enough.
3.2/5
"Nostalgie II"
This sounds like shoegaze with extra bad production. The tags say this is black metal, but uh I don't see it? Whatever, it was boring anyway.
2.5/5
"Vidrar Vel Til Loftarasa"
Hazy fuzz followed by moody sad piano. The vocals are light and spacious and it's all coming together slowly in that post-rock kinda way. It's very pretty though, especially the string arrangements. This is cool, but also not my favorite thing or even close.
3.6/5
"Ta Pligomena Minimata Anatheorimena"
Pretty strings, emotional vocals, long build-up. A lot of these this month, eh? Cool solo in what I think is a mandolin? Kinda proggy actually. Pretty cool.
3.9/5
"Rien d'spécial"
I mean it's probably no surprise that I don't like this. Boring cloud rap or something. +.1 for the backspacey percussion.

12.21.20 | Rien d'spécia - Greatly produced chill bits, with a tender delivery. I liked the flow, although I'd prefer the style if it was more lo-fi and dreamy - a problem I wouldn't have if I understood the language and was focused on the lyrics. 3.3
Eko Ile - Great jazz vibes and the sax solos are a-groovin'. Fela Kuti is one musician I wouldn't put on by myself, but would sit and listen every time it's already on. Great stuff. 4 |
Divaman
12.21.20 | Fela Kuti - Brass and an obnoxious voice. Not a good start. Yikes. This is awful. I think it curdled the milk in my coffee. And when it's not being strident, it's repetitive. 12.23.20 | Oumou Sangare - Disorganized strings, eventually crystallizing into a bunch of women singing with what almost sounds like (even though I know it's not) Celtic strings underneath. Oumare then starts singing in what is essentially a call and response thing with the other women. This is nice. I'm gonna have to remember her for next year's Continental contest. Loses a little of its punch halfway through, when the call and response stops for a bit, but it's still pretty cool. Maybe I'm just musically starved because I haven't been loving this month so far, but I'm thinking 3.7. |

12.25.20 | Zrní - "Dva utonulí na mělčině řeky Rio Grande": Warm production, surprised to hear the electronic effects, in a good way. This is cute. Love the second vocal line in the aaah-aaah-aah part a lot, where the melody goes. Colourful. 3.7
Tanya Tagaq - "Snowblind": Someone has been listening to BJORK! This is nice, with the walz-like piano chords in the background. Now the lady is gurgling. I don't know whether I liked that. 3.2
Smallpeople - "Black Ice": Ooooooh I like this beat and this bass. Hmmmmmm. Yes yes yes I like everything about this. Lovely and sparse and open and greeeaaat. Occy I think you'll win this month, if we ignore Het Regent Zonnestralen. Minimal techy house and me go too good together. 5.0
M¥SS KETA - "GMBH": Those cats. The KETA. She cray cray. When do you listen to this? Not while reading Jane Austen I can tell you that! 3.3
Santana - "Come As You Are": Haha yes, funky and cute. Those steel drums haha. And the choirs. It does make me happy! Also it's a bit silly of course. 2.8

12.25.20 | Grauzone - "Eisbär": Ars this is super good I LOVE it. Yeah. The vox, the spacey guitars, the bleepy-bloops. Good stuff. That bassline/drum combo. Hmmmm. Yes. Plus I've always felt German is a super nice lovely language, especially suitable to music. Don't know why. And I don't know why so many of you were so indifferent to this. Looks like KETA isn't the only cray cray person here. 4.1
Rubio - "Nino Iceberg": This is nicely mysterious and sensual and love the instrumentation and yeah I like this. It's cool. Why haven't you rec'd me this before JOHHNNNYYYY!!!! >:-( 4.1
Acda en de Munnik - "Het Regent Zonnestralen": Perfect classic Dutch song, mega lovely story, we blasted this in the car always. I cannot not 5.0
Infinit' - "Red Bull": Haha such a dedex track! That bass is lovely. Synths are nicely goofy. Dude has a good vibe too. Like how they mix hip hop and funky/r&b-ish stuff. He doesn't make French sound as beautiful as it could be though. A bit heavy handed and rough. 3.3
The Felice Brothers - "Goddamn You, Jim": I don't like these kind of vox, too fragile and soft and whispery and falsetto to me. Instrumentation is nice, especially in the latter half, deep and dark. 3.0 |
Trifolium
12.26.20 | Mono - "Ashes in the Snow": I've never been a big MONO fan. This doesn't change that I'm afraid. Don't know why, but rock without vocals doesn't sound right to me. Narrow minded, probably, but it's true. 2.5
Lifata - "Jaago": Kind of a slow start, then some really heavy Radiohead vibes. Warm and Four Tet-ish in a way. It's nice, but I don't really like the muuuuh muuuuh synth, the moody one. 2.9
Council Estate Electronics - "Type LK-60YA": Thumping beat is nice. Some cold far away synths, which are als nice. The mix is preventing me from really loving this, although I certainly like the track. It's a little too oversaturated I guess. But perhaps I'd like it on another day, who knows! 3.3
Cain - "Child of Cold": Haha, sounds like a dark Christmassy retro videogame. Not too bad, but a bit long. 3.0
Fastpoholmen - "Himlen": Guitar is nice, crisp, and clean. The melodica (?) isn't my thing though. It's kind of weirdly Jason Mraz in a way too huh that's weird. Also love the dubby bass haha. 3.2
|
Trifolium
12.26.20 | Trist - "Nostalgie II": The riffs in the first few minutes are nicely triumphant and upbeat, surprisingly so! I like this more than I thought I would. 3.4
Sigur Ros - "Vidrar Vel Til Loftarasa": Hmmm. I don't know. It certainly takes its time. Don't like the vox at all. Plus it is kind of overly sweet and melancholic and no. Don't like how it's mixed either. 2.4
Ta Paidia Tis Paleotitas - "Ta Pligomena Minimata Anatheorimena": Cute cover. Yet another super long track AAAAH! I like the heartbeat-rhythm and the piano is nice too, the vox aren't really my thing. It's funny where this is going, nicely dramatic. 2.8
Nepal - "Rien d'special": Haha, that first 'space' combined with introducing the beat was super nice. Like the feeling of this, the piano in the background. Yeah that's lovely. Super light and floaty. He makes French sound so much better than the last dude, shows why I love the language. Production is absolutely, totally wonderful here. Light as a feather, yet with enormous amounts of space and body. Love it. (Perhaps I should have given an even higher rating!!!) 4.1
Fela Kuti - "Eko Ile": Yeah funky nice. Saw one of the Kuti's live in Amsterdam which was a total party. They certainly got that from their father. Love the horns especially. 3.8 |

12.26.20 | #10 pretty chill and laid back, but nothing particularly remarkable 3.0
#11 sparse & haunting vibe to this one... didn't particularly grip me or anything though, maybe could do more for me in the context of a record 3.5
#12 already listened to this earlier this month when it first got posted because I've been meaning to check out this Mono album for years and I've never gotten around to it, but I figured I'd wait to rate it... but yeah first impressions haven't really changed - it's cool and all, digging it a little harder this time around, but it's kind of just post rock by the numbers to me and doesn't seem to stand above other Mono as much as I was hoping probably gonna check the whole thing though 3.7 |

12.26.20 | Myss Keta - Fair warning - I'm not reviewing another Myss Keta song after this one for at least 6 months. Sirens. Electronic beat. Myss Keta talking again. Nothing new here. 2.2.
Einsturzende Neubauten - Quiet strings, guy singing softly in German. Some people singing quietly behind him in English. Now he's getting excited. Still slow, though. Now his background people are kind of humming. Not an especially compelling track. Fuck, it just got loud and faster, so I had to turn it down. Making Myss Keta look good. 2.0.
1986 Omega Tribe - Mostly synth intro. Kind of dancy, and definitely yes, it's mid-'80s. Supposed to be Japanese. Sounds English, though. OK. Guess this is the pick of a middling litter today at 2.5. |

12.27.20 | Lumière écarlate - Wow, some great vocalizations going on here. Didn't expect this ominous music going in with this hippie album cover. Folky too... I think I like this eerie atmosphere, birngs me a pagan feeling. Does the lyrical theme match this sense as well? 4
Sigi Kurun - Okay, this is interesting, but maybe too long to keep my attention. Maybe next time we do a folk songs month? That would be neat. 3.
UNA DONNA CHE CONTA - Ahh, Myss Keta again, welcome back. Wanna be my digital alarm cloc- WHO SAID THAT, 'TWASN'T ME! 3
Zebulon - of the tracks that did nothing for me, this nothinged the most 2
Super Chance - '80s synth right out of a commercial. Not displeasing, but not enthusiastic about this either. 2.5
Extreme Cold Weather - okay, so I'm not into heavy metal that much, and this sounds like proto-black, and I'm not sure wether it's the corny lettering or the whatever title, but I like this one. 3.5

12.27.20 | Messiah - Cold winds and slow electric guitar. Now it's faster electric guitar. Fairly obnoxious vocals, kind of low in the mix. Now the song has slowed down and gotten softer. Oops, it just took off again. This is an average song with sub-par vocals. 2.3 |
Divaman
12.28.20 | Caspian - Swirling synth sounds. For a while. Gradual drum beat fades in. Hmm. According to the list entry, this is an instrumental. OK. Oh shit, it's almost 9 minutes long. Guess that's why they feel they can fuck around with the intro for so long. Yeah, I don't have anything important to do today, right guys? I guess these guys do nothing but instrumentals. They're doing the whole Night Verses thing. Singers are annoying, right guys? Anyway, less than 4 mins in, and the track seems to have taken off. There's a lot of big sound, and a little noodling around inside of it. Anyway, once the track gets going, it's decent, even if it does finish up with a kind of loud, obnoxious splash, then just kinds of peters out. But get yourselves a singer, boys. 3.2 |

12.30.20 | Catherine Ribeiro + 2 Bis - "Lumière Écarlate": Loved the first few seconds, but it's too claustrophobic for my tastes. Anxiety inducing! 2.2
MYSS KETA - "Una donna che conta": Yes, yes, KETA again. Just like the last one. And exactly like all of her others? 2.9
Einsturzende Neubauten - "Zebulon": Never really checked them, despite hearing about them very often. Like the use of silence in this, but don't like the vox. Perhaps I'm not in the mood for looser music, but I think this is a little too sound collage-y for today. 2.5
1986 Omega Tribe - "Super Chance": Nice 80s vibes. This is kind of nice. Weirdly nostalgic feeling despite I've never heard it. Such a Japanese mood to go for. It doesn't keep my attention for its entire duration but it is nice. 3.1
Messiah - "Extreme Cold Weather": LOVE the cover. That intro riff is superb. Most of it is really nice, but I'm not so sure about the vocals. Solo is amazing though, and god those drums and riffs sound lovely during the solo. HMMM. 3.8 |

12.30.20 | Caspian - "Arcs of Command": RE MONO for my comments on instrumental rock music. Not my thing, although I enjoy this more than MONO I think. Hmmm, maybe not that much. 2.6
Asgier - "Glaedur": Yeah this man. I know him. Not too bad I guess. But some serious sad guy with a guitar vibes, and I'm not too big a fan of those. Especially in the overly sweet falsetto choruses. The slightly darker guitar at the end of the chorus is somewhat of a saving grace though. 2.8
Haniya Aslam - "Ayi Re": Lovely rhythm and that bass is superb too. Love the tone of her voice as well. Yeah this is mega cool. I thoroughly enjoyed this, will check the full album before the year runs out (so today or tomorrow!). The production is so warm cosy snugly lovely too hmmm yes. 4.0
Vali - "Et Ensomt Minne": Too on the nose for me. Can't really listen to this stuff, too kitschy I think. Especially with the violins. 2.2

porcupinetheater
12.30.20 | Eyo Trif, definitely don’t let Zebulon impact what you think Einsturzende sounds like, that’s pretty much their only track in that vein. Their 80s shit is more hammering industrial, occasionally met with a post-apocalyptic dance beat. Halber Mensch, Haus du Luge, and Kollaps all put their own super interesting spin on that |

Himlen - this is a bit of a weird one but i like it. it has a bit of a groove to it. 3.2

Vidrar Vel Til Loftarasa - best album ever, best band ever, best song ever & best climax ever. just the best. 5.0 |
Pangea
01.01.21 | Ta Pligomena Minimata Anatheorimena - ohh this is super lovely. Beginning with the piano and the build-up later. it's a gorgous. Love the emotional vocals too. 4.3
Rien d'spécial - this is super nice production, loving the piano notes coming through. The guy as a nice flow too. 3.9 |
Mythodea
01.01.21 | Arcs of Command - okay, this was epic. I really didn't want it to end, but was so glad it ended the way it did, with the climaxing release. Found it extremely emotional as well, and the playing was so tight and multilayered, it was a whole experience. Thank you! 5.
Glæður - this is smooth and the vocals remind me of Leprous' Einar, but maybe that's just me. I appreciated the quiet violin-like undergoing melody, coming forth or receding to the back. It ends too abruptly though. 3.5
Et Ensomt Minne - Ahh, Vali... Used to listen to them quite a lot when I joined Sputnik, as they were - correctly - recommended as similar to Empyrium. I still get nervous with that scandinavian darkness that's all too unfamiliar to my mediterranean ass when I put these romantic, folkish songs on. Like, I feel the pagan element coming out of me, and I really don't know to what exact memory it connects me with. Anyway, Vali are always appreciated. 4.2

Τα Παιδιά της Παλαιότητας - Not bad. Actually I've never heard Greek music I didn't like. I've been focusing on nordic and english music all this time, but that could be a huge mistake. Also this could be a good MGP entry... 3.5/5
Rien d'Spécial - Just nice flow and atmosphere. 3.5/5
Eko Ile - I am not at all in this mood, but it's probably good idk 3/5
Lumière écarlate - Sweet ritualistic vibes. But the song goes nowhere. 3.2/5
Oumou Sangare - Nice voice, but too busy and repetitive for me. 3/5
Una donna che conta - Haha it's so terrible. This is her best video though. A LADY WHO COUNTS. 2/5
Zebulon - Never got this band. It scares me. 2.7/5
Super Chance - Haha how the fuck is 80s music possible. Also I've always absolutely despised Easy Lover. 1.5/5
Extreme Cold Weather - Laughable, in a good way. The cover really doesn't help this. But it actually has some really nice and diverse parts. 3.3/5
Arcs of Command - Sweet energy. Nice goddamn buildup. 3.7/5
Glæður - Well it's a nice atmosphere. Should somehow be grittier, edgier. 3/5
Ayi Re - This was a little boring. But cute. 2.7/5
Et Ensomt Minne - This is really good. Must def listen to more Vali. 4/5
Erblicket Die Tochter Des Firmaments - Good old. I'm not a fan but I can hear the quality somewhere in that fuzz. 3/5 |

Yeah, this is neat. From the droning to the acoustic guitar, to the vocals. Simple, but never boring.
3.8/5
"Sigi Kuruni"
This has cool guitar work. I like the strings and vocals a lot too. Someone should push me to check an album by her.
4.5/5
"Una Donna che Conta"
Boring pop backbeat with boring talked vocals. Fuck, this sucks Potsy. It's less than 4 minutes, but feels like it's 12 minutes. Most of the Keta stuff you've picked has been average, but this is actually kind of grating in its banality. Really unfun dance music that desperately needs more percussion or something.
1.5/5
"Zebulon"
Eh, this fine. Decent buildup, but I was honestly expecting this to get weirder and it hardly delivered.
3.1/5
"Super Chance"
Sounds like synthy 80s post-disco music. Very bassy, but not in a catchy way. God, this is like stock music almost. This is what a ziplock bag would sound like if it were a song.

Hello, extreme metal! It's been a while since I've heard you. I can't tell if this is supposed to be a meme or if it's a real song. The mellower guitar part is fine enough.
2.7/5
"Arcs of Command"
This is post-rock, alright. I'm bored. 6 minutes in and I can't wait for this to end. You ever listen to a song and feel like it didn't even happen? Wow, so many ending cymbal crashes, seriously like 5. Excess in boring.
2.4/5
"Glæður"
Strings are always nice and the beeping is odd enough to stand out. Vocally this is pretty uninteresting, but it's pleasant background noise I suppose.

Scratchy Satan growls over some slow fuzzy guitar. Man, why is black metal the worst genre ever? And the drums sound like someone scraping aluminum foil for and it's irritating.

01.02.21 | #17 doesn't really go anywhere and I feel that so yeah, p good kinda comfy for a "black metal" it's like I walking through the snow but I nice & cozy too... could be nice to do the sleeps to 3.6
#18 even though I have this album and I've listened to this album, I'm still very much not familiar with this song... probably usually either don't make it this far or I've already gone to sleeps by the time this song plays (over 40 minutes into the album)... listening now and yeah, it's nice... the ending is quite nice... but I'm kind of cool just having it play while I do the sleeps too 3.6
#19 ah alright, it's my turn now... I refuse to listen to this shit!!
jk this is alright could probably get a little more out of it if I did the Greek but overall this just really isn't my teacup 3.3 |

01.02.21 | #20 I didn't care for it much but it did growed on me a little by the end and it'd probably grow on me more if I listened to some more I think part of it is I just don't have much interest in foreign language hip hop 3.4
#21 damn this is pretty good definitely a change of pace I can dig it would jam again 4.0 |

01.02.21 | @Sherange, thanks for the cool reaction, mate. I imagined there would be some frowning upon my comment when Divaman asked what's the buzz with it.
So, just to be clear, as I explained to Divaman, the song is so much surrounded by the artist's history, that it's become unlistenable to me. It's not that I think the song per se is shit (I tried for a minute or so, and it wasn't bad, tbh), it is that I really have no appetite for a stubborn neo-nazi's work. Maybe some other time, for encyclopedic reasons, but currently no. Besides, if I did rate it, I would give it a 0.5, so that wouldn't be fair either... |

01.05.21 | Super change - I love this, it makes me really happy. 4.3
Extreme Cold weather - idk about this, it some cool aspects (the solo is nice), but the vocals are so weirdly drown out. Generally don't like the production on this. 2.5
Arcs of Command - i don't really like their 2020 album but hopefully this can sell me on the band. I don't dig the synth-y stuff in the beginning but the song does have a really nice build-up. the latter half of the song is pretty awesome actually 3.5
Glæður - this is pretty but i don't really like his voice sadly, it's a bit too thin for me. 2.8
Aye Re- That is some dope bassline. Nice guitar melodies too. I'm not 100% feeling the vocals but overall this is really good 3.7
Erblicket die Töchter des Firmaments - The guitar is nice hypnotic and filthy, but while i have gotten used to bm vocals, this takes it too far. They sound awful. 2.3 |
