idk if its my computer but there is this weird distortion on her guitar at points which really grinds my gears |
Koris
11.10.21 | Manic Impressions by Anacrusis, to the point that I can't even listen to it because of how dry and thin it sounds. It's a shame too, because the album's really well-written. The production just ruins the entire thing for me |
ReturnToRock
11.10.21 | Obvious example: AC/DC - Fly on the Wall. Brian sounds like he recorded his vocals under water. Then again, that's not exactly a GOOD album...
To a lesser extent, AC/DC - Blow Up Your Video.
Also Sepultura - Morbid Visions/Eternal Devastation

11.10.21 | you sure draw a lot of criticism for an album you claim to be in your top 10 oat |

11.10.21 | don't get me wrong I love the album, but sometimes I just wish it was mixed differently, i don't just blindly love it |

11.10.21 | chaosphere by shuggah is pretty dope but the mix is actually egregious |

11.10.21 | Eucharist - A Velvet Creation |
ReturnToRock
11.10.21 | Damn, this is like the second time in a few months I've seen Eucharist mentioned on here. I used to own their album years ago (sold it on, as not my thing) but I thought nobody knew them. |

11.10.21 | Panzerfaust sounds exactly like it should |

11.10.21 | Meat is murder is in fact better than QiD |

11.10.21 | Chaosphere sounds great to me. Never once thought that it had a bad mix. |

11.10.21 | In terms of albums that aren't on this list, I'd probably add Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Very enjoyable album (even if slightly overrated in my opinion), but the mix on the copy I used to own as a teenager (the 1987 initial CD issue) always felt very tinny, a stark contrast to the appealingly disorienting feeling of the reissues that have surfaced since. |
gnardude
11.10.21 | white stripes - icky thump, not bad mixing as much as bad mastering, but still very difficult to listen to. the list of albums vlado meller has mastered is so interesting but a lot of them have that signature clipping going on, like californication, what's the story morning glory, st. anger, etc. |
TheSonomaDude
11.10.21 | it took me a bit to get into Gorguts - From Wisdom To Hate because I hated that pingpang drum snare sound and thought the production was infinitely worse than Obscura. love it now ofc
There's a Suffocation album too |
TheCharmingMan
11.10.21 | Machina and Zeitgeist
If they remixed those shits i know dam well they’d be seen in a more forgiving light |

11.10.21 | "Rick Rubin is so overrated man."
By bands maybe but I think I've never heard a music fan speaking good stuff about him lol |

I absolutely love that album, but yeah, can't stand the snare sound either. |

11.10.21 | Panzerfaust sounds exactly like it should (2)
Total death by the same mighty Dark throne doesn't though |

11.11.21 | Baroness - Gold and Grey. 3 surely sucks. |
Shuyin
11.11.21 | Immolation - KoC, the album is okay but the drums are just way too loud |
Drifter
11.11.21 | strictly does sound super bad somehow more dated sounding than 2pacalypse now but a west coast album in 93 is kinda like that couldve gone either way of sounding really good or get caught in the transition between the old and new sound and sound suuuuuper dated |
TheSonomaDude
11.11.21 | How did I forget??? fuckin ATHEIST - ELEMENTS |

check out the mono mixed record/reissue, 'stereo-mixes' of the 60s were often a slapped together afterthought and pipers a good example of limitations(along with a ton of beatles).
my vote goes too the 80s megadeth albums and idk iggy raw power. [oh yeah suffo breeding the spawn for sure] |
Coolishtiger
11.11.21 | Counterpoint on Rick Rubin - I honestly think some of his older albums are well mixed, Reign in Blood - Slayer (for its time), and also the mixing in Toxicity - SOAD and Deloused in the Comatorium - The Mars Volta is a little loud but I think it still has color? Death Magnetic really does sound terrible tho |
JKing92
11.11.21 | BAT: I actually like most stereo mixes of '60s albums (I've always enjoyed how it gives the albums a rather disorienting feeling, see Sgt. Pepper or The Velvet Underground and Nico), but I think that many CD remasters of '60s and early '70s albums from the '90s onward have often sounded better than their '80s predecessors, due to the fact that they are able to reconcile the abundance of panning used in a lot of music of that era with more spacious, detailed mastering. I've actually never cared for mono mixes of albums, since I feel that, in the case of many albums I've heard in mono, it tends to flatten out the sound, jettisoning the joy of getting to hear all kinds of sounds pop out of different speakers.
Coolishtiger: Regarding Rick Rubin, I've actually never been all that bothered by overly loud mastering. There are a handful of exceptions, admittedly (Californication, Death Magnetic), but for the most part, I'm generally not bothered by the mastering on, say, System of a Down's albums or Green Day's output from American Idiot onwards (I know the latter was not the work of Rick Rubin, but I've often heard their work over the last twenty years invoked in "Loudness War" discussions, though I am aware that their albums were mixed rather loud even as far back as Dookie), since I feel that the increase in volume often actually assists in giving the albums a heavier sound. However, that's just me. |

11.11.21 | At The Gates - With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness |
Cryptkeeper
11.11.21 | Mastodon's Once More Round The Sun. Idk if I'd call it bad mixing but the wall sound bullshit certainly is subpar and really holds the record back |
bigguytoo9
11.18.21 | I would have put YOB - ATMA on this list 100% BUT, Mike came in with the new Remix/Remaster and my prayers have been answered. |
bigguytoo9
11.18.21 | Baroness - Gold and Grey surely deserves the list as previously mentioned by someone. That album is almost unlistenable. |
