03.24.21 | I'm with you as far as being a fan of his voice. I've heard people say he doesn't have much of a range, though, and if I listen to his early stuff with that in mind, I hear what people are talking about. I think he varied it up more as he went on, though. |
ArsMoriendi
03.24.21 | I hate to break it to you, but I'm entirely neutral on Morrisey's voice
No strong feelings in either direction |
WeepingBanana
03.24.21 | Just listen to the Church or some shit if you wanna hear jangly emotional stuff |
JeremiahBullfrog
03.24.21 | Sir, the smiths are much more than “jangly emotional stuff” |
ArsMoriendi
03.24.21 | They're also preachy vegan stuff right |
WeepingBanana
03.24.21 | Don’t get my wrong I like a good number of smiths songs but that’s kind of in spite of morrissey and as much as I like Johnny Marr, Maurice Deebank is much better at that sort of style |
heck
03.24.21 | I love Morrissey's voice and lyrics but my god he's such a massive piece of shit |

03.25.21 | i do love moz's voice but it's kind of unbearable without Johnny Marr - Marr is like the bread to his butter so without it it's like eating straight butter which is fucking gross and shitty |
beefshoes
03.25.21 | To each their own, but I struggle to see how a fan of The Smiths wouldn't enjoy at least bits of Viva Hate and the early singles collected on Bona Drag. I find that Bona Drag is just as strong as Hatful and Louder than Bombs |
cordwainerbird
03.25.21 | i get u but to me all his solo stuff has felt like hollow imitations of a successful model (The Smiths) rather than sincere expression. like the voice itself is sincere but the instrumentals always feel half-baked and limp even when they "work". doesn't help that Morrissey is a fuckin dumbass so that will bleed thru the music a bit too |
Divaman
03.25.21 | I agree about the early solo stuff. I do feel that as the years have gone on, though, the sense of humor that was always present in his lyrics has decreased and the whiny factor (which was also always present) has increased a lot. |
beefshoes
03.25.21 | Everything beyond Vauxhall and I can be very hit or miss, but there's not a single album without at least a couple of decent tracks.
Kill Uncle definitely sounds limp, which was a result of Stephen Street's absence, and Morrissey trying to find a new footing musically. I love Your Arsenal and Vauxhall though, but I see why others wouldn't be into it |
ReiniEden
03.25.21 | Love his voice, I don't pay attention to him as a person though.
Cause I separate the art from the artist. |
cordwainerbird
03.25.21 | ^ lmao |
cordwainerbird
03.25.21 | sorry to break it but the sentiments and experiences of the artist that make the art is what makes the work personal and enjoyable. even if the person is a dipshit the art they make is still uniquely their vision. ignoring the artist and taking only the art is depriving yourself of the context that allowed the art to exist. like u do u but i've always found that kinda sad. (theres my hot take of the day) |
Rowan5215
03.25.21 | his only good solo song is Suedehead tbh
