10.07.21 | damn I feel like a fucking alien being the only person on the entire site who actually enjoys most of his videos. |
Uzumaki
10.07.21 | I didn't mind his videos back in the day, but his videos began sounding more like gatekeeping if they weren't just spouting generic, copy/paste takes that everyone and their mom were spouting about most of the -core genres. Plus, for a guy who almost constantly reminds people of how he "grew up in the scene", his preference for the most bland, vanilla bands in -core and then trumpeting them as "innovative" and "groundbreaking" is kinda dumb if you ask me. |

Koris
10.07.21 | I think his vids are fine, but he lost a lot of credibility with me when he made a video shitting on rap metal and then praised Emmure as basically the only band in the genre he likes. Like yeah, I get that rap metal isn't the best genre in the world, but THAT's the band you'd consider the torchbearer? Ok, lol |
TrantaLocked
10.07.21 | The first to something new always have a god-like level of motivation to make it great. The top mathcore bands pretty much already perfected the genre, then they stopped putting out albums. No one really has it in them to even attempt to make something like Converge or Dillinger's best music. They aren't motivated to and they're doing other things now.
Right now most of the innovation is in forms of blackgaze, deathgaze and nu-metalcore. |
combustion07
10.07.21 | I disagree with him often when it comes to the music stuff but I will say I like his more motivational aimed podcasts and whatnot. Enjoyed his vid on Earth Crisis and the story of him trying to interview Spazz and whatnot. |
Mort.
10.07.21 | Holy shit that's the most disgraceful metalcore tier list I've ever seen |
Demon of the Fall
10.07.21 | Why is Polyfiller on this list?
Not sure the genre is dead.
I've also re-read Tranta's comment a couple of times now and I'm stumped. The 'founding fathers' of many genres are often held in very high regard by the people they end up influencing (duh!) but that doesn't cause the whole genre to grind to a halt because 'what's the point? we'll never be as good' in fact it has the opposite effect, their influence is passed down (again, duh!) Now that doesn't mean bands will purposefully start attempting carbon copies of yesteryears greats, but they absolutely will be motivated to create music with a passing resemblance to bands they enjoy, rather than thinking about the burden of 'living up to something' or whatever.
It feels like I'm going crazy here, either that or my reading comprehension is alluding me. |
Intothepit
10.07.21 | No, it's TrantaLocked. Most of what he says is nonsense. |
DavidYowi
10.07.21 | "Oh and he’s anti-union too if you didn’t think he was enough of a douche"
lmfao I guess this isn't surprising from a guy who majored in marketing who calls himself punk.
I like some of his vids but he's dead wrong on a lot of things. In his Pantera vid he basically dissed Rex Brown by saying "sorry Rex, every band needs a bassist" like his bass lines aren't incredibly important to the band's sound. |
Senetrix666
10.07.21 | pains me to see ghost inside and a7f listed in the same tier as converge |
ParoXysm
10.07.21 | Sometimes he makes good videos and good points, but he's also one of those people who constantly yells "it's just my opinion" over and over again - and I often find the types who have to constantly and defensively tell you it's just their opinion are usually the first to shit all over somebody else's opinion. The other weird thing about him is he seems to not like bands with what he deems as having "nerd" fanbases - it's like, dude, you have a Youtube channel where you talk about 00's scene fashion - do you think you're not also a huge dork? |
AlexKzillion
10.07.21 | the funniest thing to me about him is he is definitely critical, but he totally prides himself on that fact but also is constantly skrting passed saying how he truly feels in an effort to keep up friendships with the bands and/or not get entirely shat on by fans of said bands.
this video is a perfect example when he said "calculating infinity is the peak of the genre, and the best lineup dillinger ever had"... which are entirely fine opinions at face value. except he a) is actually friends/literally neighbors with dimitri and b) hates Mike Patton and everyone the dude has ever influenced (i.e. Greg).
Also in that entire 20+ minute "my problem with prog metal" video he never made any mention of BTBAM despite them being one of the biggest bands of the scene and fall in line with all his criticisms of the genre. Why you ask? Members of the band hop on his podcast from time to time.
He prides himself on being edgy but he's the first to pull punches. I like PRMBA's content more, but one thing I'll always respect about Fantano is he really does say what he really thinks most of the time, even if it is dumb af. |
GhandhiLion
10.07.21 | " Why you ask? Members of the band hop on his podcast"
I didn't realise he had that much reach / is that popular. |
AlexKzillion
10.07.21 | It's not so much popularity as much as he has just been """in the scene""" for a super long time and is a good networker.
Also his real job is running that music production training business or whatever so he's prob met a ton of guys from bands before they ever made it big. |
BAT
10.07.21 | i feel like he plays up the snobbery but may lack a little self-awareness. i thinnk the main appeal is just hearing another perspective, i'd rather listen to shit i hadn't thought of instead of someone repeating my own opinion. tbh i kinda wish that louis rossmann dude had a djenty music channel |

10.07.21 | "But like, we get it Finn, you don't like black metal stans. No one does..."
That's why they congregate here, I bet |
Supercoolguy64
10.07.21 | didnt watch the vid but tbh i think it just became kind of cliched and most bands that describe themselves as mathcore either sound like a twinkle band or just do chug riffs with the occasional weird chord shape played in an odd meter |
WeepingBanana
10.07.21 | Wow the man is a real nexus point of all things shameful and embarrassing |
AlexKzillion
10.07.21 | "i thinnk the main appeal is just hearing another perspective"
This is 100% his appeal to me. Dude loves a lot of shit the sput/rym/pitchfork sphere hates and/or doesn't care about and he's great at explaining why that is... and yes his marketing background gives him a way more unique and legit perspective on how things become popular, the rise and fall of trends etc. that's way more sophisticated than "iT's cAtChY" or "tHe SiNgEr iS AtTrAcTiVe". I think his "what killed grunge" video really highlights that second point. |
Demon of the Fall
10.08.21 | 'and I often find the types who have to constantly and defensively tell you it's just their opinion are usually the first to shit all over somebody else's opinion.'
Nothing to do with this dude (literally no idea who he is), but this statement rings true a lot of the time. It's really bloody irritating. |
Uzumaki
10.08.21 | Somebody type up these measured responses cohesively and then see if you can get on his podcast and categorically refute his points in the vid. |
TrantaLocked
10.10.21 | @Demon of the Fall They evolve the genre and start genre-mashing. No one has created traditional-style thrash as good as 80s/90s thrash, but modern forms of metal *include* thrash as an influence. So yes it's not like mathcore is "done," but its original form is being moved away from. I think we pretty much just agree but worded from different angles.
@Intothepit Everything you say is arrogant and close-minded. You literally have never once defended a point well and every time your entire position is revealed as a sham made to get off on your own ego. BTBAM is death metal. |

It's funny that he's so hell-bent on this Van Halen comparison when Fair Warning, their best and most ambitious album, is hardly ever talked about despite not having any of the problems he talks about. Finding this many ways to say "muh wank" over the course of 20 minutes is such a waste of time.
