Favourite albums I've heard this year

A list to be continually developed. Consisting of albums I discovered this year (not limited to 2022) that I played to death in the subsequent months and weeks. Yay. No particular order. This is going to look so fucking chaotic aesthetically my eyes are gonna bleed ugh. (2022)
1Built to Spill
Perfect from Now On

Almost anything Doug Martsch says on this album is an iconic one liner. I don't know how else to explain the greatness of this album. Fav: Untrustable/About Someone Else
2...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
Madonna

Either best or second best album they've made. Noisy and anxious like the end of the world is coming. Count me in. Fav: Totally Natural/Mark David Chapman
3The Dresden Dolls
The Dresden Dolls

Gateway drug into piano based music and Fiona Apple. It's terrific and terrifying and I love it. Fav: Truce
4theSTART
Shakedown!

Before you had a bunch of those lame synth-rock post-punk revival band's becoming popular, there was theSTART featuring Human Waste Project's Aimee Echo. Catchy and ahead of its time though never successful due to shitty label management. Fav: Gorgeous
5Charli XCX
Vroom Vroom

let's ride
6Bratmobile
Pottymouth

Seriously; this album is fucking anarchy and makes no fucking sense whatsoever but it's still cool schmool. Fav: stab
7Drop Nineteens
Delaware

wow guess what; this band isn't just good because of kick the tragedy. Fav: Winona
8From First to Last
Heroine

Yes I'm too old for angsty emo music but this album has both the production and musicanship to back its horrific themes and lyrics up. Fav: Shame, Shame
9Unsane
Unsane

Essential noise rock album, and the band's best ever (rip Charlie Ondras). Fav: Exterminator
10dredg
El Cielo

Whenever I'm anxious and uptight, I now play this album and it immediately relieves me of stress. It is that powerful I kid you not. I love this band and the first three records are all classics imo. Fav: Triangle
11Galactic Cowboys
Machine Fish

Anthrax's Stomp 442, but it's actually GOOD????? Good musicianship, which definitely needed trimming but these songs are so fun to play on guitar. Fav: Feel the Rage
12The Dismemberment Plan
Change

Yeah Emergency & I is superior but this album is much easier to come back to and I love it so much; it's crystal clear. Fav: Following Through/Ellen & Ben
13Against Me!
As the Eternal Cowboy

It's so fucking short but no second is wasted. Intense and worth your attention. Fav: Turn those Clapping Hands.../Cliche Guevara
14Le Tigre
Feminist Sweeptakes

Basically part of the "epiphany" I had this year where I went out to seek more female artists and subsequently got a more mellower taste. Regardless: lo-fi dance punk which is definitely a product of its time but still worth something. Fav: Keep on Living. I put a quote of that song in my leavers yearbook.
15Circle Takes the Square
As the Roots Undo

holy fuck

Fav: everything
16The Distillers
Coral Fang

"blood represents life and loss of it is death" - Brody Dalle

Fav: everything
17Toadies
Hell Below/Stars Above

How this flopped hard I won't understand. (pls don't read my review, I disowned it). Fav: Jigsaw Girl
18Fiona Apple
Fetch the Bolt Cutters

Please explain the controversy about wanting a user to get banned please

Fav: Shameika
19Scarling.
So Long, Scarecrow

Like looking into the car headlights at night. Fav: it's all good

p.s. I know Jessicka may or may not be a shit person irl but we don't talk about it
20Yoko Ono
Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band

why (X some numerical value)

Fav: Why
21...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
Worlds Apart

Yes it's overblown. that's the entire fucking point. it's a satire. Fav: Caterwaul
22Paw
Dragline

R I F F S. always fun to play on guitar. Dark and melodic is the shit. Fav: Sleeping Bag
23Poe
Haunted

Atmospheric and well cut pop music that's worth every second. Also, even better when walking around outside in the dark. Unexpected find and I love this. By the way house of leaves is actually very good. (haunted isn't the soundtrack to house of leaves.) Fav: 5&1/2 Minute Hallway
24The Promise Ring
Nothing Feels Good

This does, however. Fav: DELAWARE ARE YOU AWARE OF THE AIR SUPPLY AND TELEVISION? DELAWARE ARE YOU AWARE IS THIS THING ON DELAWAAAAAAAAAAAAREEEEEEEEE
25Harvey Danger
King James Version

eclectic and one-liner worthy. e.g. Meetings with Remarkable Men. Fav: You Miss The Point Completely...
26Texas Is the Reason
Do You Know Who You Are?

Drop D madness and emo delight. Solid. Fav: A Jack With One Eye
27The Get Up Kids
Something to Write Home About

Yeah, as you can tell I had an 2nd wave emo phase revival (i wasn't there when it happened)

Fav: The Company Dime
28downset.
Downset

Heavy ham fisted political rap metal which definitely had an influence on nu metal later on. Too bad they fell off really quickly after this (cue: YOUVE FALLEN OFF by downset). Fav: My American Prayer (very fun to play)
29Tura Satana
All Is Not Well

(formerly known as "Manhole") You know what? I know rap metal sucks mostly. I know this album can be a bit cringe in how it delivers its messages. But you know what? It still sounds 100% more grittier and feels 100% cooler in how it presents its political messages than the bands since 2016 or so holy fuck. I'll stand by this because it slams.

Fav: Sickness
30Unwound
Challenge For a Civilized Society

It makes no sense yet speaks in volumes

Fav: Laugh Track/NO TECH!
