| Musical recommendations from my country, Pt. 2
Since the other list had such a great response, I though why not do another one! I'm gonna have to repeat some of the bands, because to be honest I'm not really an expert on argentinian music, I don't listen to a lot, but I can still recommend a few more records that I find really good and enjoyable. Nevertheless, I will keep listening records from my country and might do a few more lists of this kind.
If you wanna check out the other list and maybe give your thoughts on some of the albums, I'll let you the link here: https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=1179174&listid=191655 | 1 | | Serú Girán Bicicleta
Like I said in the first list, I think Serú Girán is the best argentinian band ever. And this album in particular, is my personal favorite. Serú Girán's Bicicleta is their third album, released in the year 1980. The album counts with eight tracks and as the previous album, goes from proggressive rock to jazz fusion. Released in a context of a dictatorial government, one of the tracks actually talks about the government on a metaphorical way, using the novel Alice In Wonderland as a face of what Charly was really talking about on the lyrics; truly one of his greatest lyrical ideas. Definitely one of my favorite albums ever.
Favorite tracks: A los Jóvenes de Ayer, Canción de Alicia en el País, Desarma y Sangra | 2 | | Soda Stereo Sueño Stereo
For their last album, Soda Stereo decided to make another huge change on the sound of their music. By the year 1995, Soda released Sueño Stereo, which featured this alternative and psychedelic pop rock. One thing that I find awesome of this band is that, despite the bad relationship between Gustavo, Charly and Zeta, they somehow managed to finish Soda Stereo's history on a big way, without releasing a bad album, without making a short tour just to get done with it. They released an album that is considered one of the best latin rock albums ever, and then went on tour for nearly half a year. On this album we get to listen to some of the ambient music that Cerati did later on some of his solo work.
Favorite tracks: Disco Eterno, Efecto Doppler, Ángel Eléctrico | 3 | | Pescado Rabioso Artaud
Pescado Rabioso was a group formed in the year 1971, it started as a three man group, with Luis Alberto Spinetta on guitar and vocals, Black Amaya on drums and Osvaldo Frascino on bass, but after a while, Frascino left the group and instead David Lebón and Carlos Cutaia joined to play bass and keys respectively.
The album that I am bringing to the list is the last Pescado Rabioso album, released in 1973, and to be fair, it is actually a solo album by Spinetta. By the year 1973 Pescado Rabioso broke up, but for some complex reasons, the album was credited to the band, despite the fact that Spinetta wrote all by himself and recorded almost every instrument that sounds on the record. The album features a folk and blues rock, and has a pretty quiet ambient. The lyrics talk about the work of the french poet Antonin Artaud, and it is dedicated to him.
Favorite tracks: Todas las Hojas son del Viento, Cantata de Puentes Amarillos, Bajan | 4 | | Patricio Rey y sus redonditos de ricota La mosca y la sopa
La Mosca y la Sopa is Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota's fifth album, released in the year 1991. By that time, Los Redondos were already one of the biggest bands on Argentina, and this album had an amazing reception, being one of the fans's favorites album of the band. It is a blues and rock album, that as usually, features cryptical lyrics, one of the characteristics of Indio Solari's lyrics, and awesome guitar riffs pulled by this amazing guitarist that is Skay Beilinson. One of my personal favorites of the band's work.
Favorite tracks: Fusilados por la Cruz Roja, Salando las Heridas, Queso Ruso | 5 | | Gustavo Cerati Bocanada
Released in the year 1999, Gustavo Cerati's second solo album (and first solo album after Soda Stereo's break up) arrived and got very good reviews from both critics and fans. Immediately Bocanada became a classic and one of the best rock albums in spanish. The album features genres such as electronic music, dream pop, art rock, art pop, and it is a masterpiece of sample music. During it's fifteen tracks, we can hear samples of songs like Momma by Electric Light Orchestra, Feel by The Verve or even It's Now or Never by Elvis Presley, between others. A beautiful album that made Gustavo Cerati even bigger than it already was.
Favorite tracks: Tabú, Puente, Verbo Carne | 6 | | Sur Oculto Sur Oculto
Maybe the weirdest and less mainstream recommendation that I can give about argentinian music. Sur Oculto is an instrumental power trio composed by drums, bass and keys. The band plays a wide range of genres, such as jazz, funk, rock and heavy metal, and it is absolutely mindblowing. Their self titled album was released in the year 2011, after two previous works. I don't really have a lot of words for this album, as I said, it is absolutely mindblowing for those who are really music lovers. I highly recommend it, it's totally worth the listen.
Favorite tracks: El Eterno Regreso al Caos, Elefante, Yuxtaposición | 7 | | Richard Coleman Incandescente
Richard Coleman is an argentinian musician, known for being ex member of bands like Fricción and Los 7 Delfines, collaborations with other musicians such as Gustavo Cerati, Charly García and for being an on tour member of Soda Stereo. After working on Cerati's last album, Fuerza Natural, he decided to start his own solo career, and in 2011 he released his first album, Siberia Country Club. Two years later, Incandescente was released. Incandescente is an alternative rock album, it was the first thing that I heard of Richard Coleman and it was quite a surprise. In my opinion it is a pretty solid album, and features some interesting collaborations like Skay Beilinson, Pedro Onetto or Alejandro Lerner. Overall, it is a good album worth listen to.

05.04.20 | chemicalmarriage you're right! I might do another one of these and include one or two metal records. I'm not really into argentinean metal, but I will listen to some albums and recommend! I know a few bands but not really gave them a proper listen so I will for the next list! |
