SitarHero
06.20.20 | Ha! Funny you should make this a list. I recently rediscovered an LP of Western Themes that I loved as a kid for that Facebook 10 albums thing, which led to me discovered a bunch of spaghetti westerns on Youtube which is most of what I've been watching for the past couple of days. |
wutang4ever
06.20.20 | nice bruh, spaghetti westerns are so good, my fav thing right now. I keep seeing The Great Silence as one of the best but it's hard to find :9 |
SitarHero
06.20.20 | Yeah they were my favourite thing before I discovered Sci Fi. I was a particularly huge fan of the Bud Spencer-Terence Hill comedies. |
Slugboiiii
06.20.20 | Open Range is well worth a watch, as is the 3:10 to Yuma remake. Assassination of Jesse James is easily the best western of the last 25 years though |
bloc
06.20.20 | Only ever saw Paint Your Wagon |
Trebor.
06.20.20 | Thought this was going to be a list about hotels |

06.20.20 | 3:10 to Yuma |
neekafat
06.20.20 | ignore anyone on the thread who tells you to watch bone tomahawk. not because of the gratuitous violence at the end but because it's boring af with little pay off |
RogueNine
06.20.20 | I remember seeing McLintock! and liking it. |
wutang4ever
06.20.20 | Blazing Saddles is so good, I own that on blu ray the 40'th anniversary one |
ShadowRemains
06.20.20 | lord allow mel brooks to live forever i don't ask you for much |
wutang4ever
06.20.20 | just watched robin hood men in tights for the 4th time last night and it is pretty amazing, thoughtful and intelligent, plus Amy Yasbeck was a hard 1000000/10 back then |
Colton
06.20.20 | you guys ever seen the show Justified? better than all westerns |
unclereich
06.20.20 | lol retarded take |
Satellite
06.20.20 | Ignore neekafat re: Bone Tomahawk. |
Colton
06.20.20 | not liking Justified is a big yikes just saying |
ArsMoriendi
06.20.20 | I really need to see more Westerns. I've enjoyed most of the ones I've seen.
I hate John Wayne's acting (and personality...) but I can't deny that both The Searchers and True Grit are excellent movies (the Coen Bros remake of True Grit is only okay though)
As for non-Wayne stuff: Unforgiven, The Wild Bunch, and No Country for Old men (if that counts?) all rule
And if we can count comedy Westerns: Blazing Saddles and Little Big Man are both perfection. |
Colton
06.20.20 | I’ll just go with the standard red one |
porcupinetheater
06.20.20 | Get you some McCabe & Mrs. Miller, stat. Riveting shit |
Winesburgohio
06.20.20 | McCabe and Mrs. Miller is so good |
JeremiahBullfrog
06.20.20 | Yess love this list. My top 3 of all time are the good, the bad, and the ugly - outlaw Josey Wales - and For a few dollars more |
Winesburgohio
06.20.20 | would strongly advise anyone into Westerns to look into Deadwood, one of my favourite shows ever ever ever |
Colton
06.20.20 | Deadwood is sick but Justified is better. And both star the same guy |
ZombieParty
06.20.20 | El topo should be on this list |
Intothepit
06.20.20 | The Quick and the Dead is so bad lol. Like cringe-worthy bad, and any Western list lacking the original True Grit and Shane is automatically incorrect |
Inveigh
06.21.20 | good list, but agreed with pit that true grit and shane are all time classics.
also love the deadwood and justified mentions. justified is my favorite show ever and deadwood is top 5. both are must see.
a fistful of dollars is a great western flick too. and of course wild wild west |
alamo
06.21.20 | more like worst easterns amirite |

C3llarD00r
06.21.20 | Regarding modern westerns I can recommend The Proposition (2005) and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005)
Assassination of Jesse James... (2007) is also great but already was recd further above I saw |
loveisamixtape
06.21.20 | west besterns |

06.21.20 | the proposition is pretty dope as well |

08.29.20 | Just saw Gunfighters Moon the other night, 1995 I believe, such a great movie. It is definitely a sleeper. |
neekafat
08.29.20 | The hotel in salt lake was pretty nice if I remember correctly |
tectactoe
08.29.20 | Personal Top 10:
• THE SHOOTING (Hellman, 1966)
• THE GOOD, THE BAD, & THE UGLY (Leone, 1966)
• DAY OF THE OUTLAW (De Toth, 1959)
• SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON (Ford, 1949)
• RIO BRAVO (Hawks, 1959)
• BY THE LAW (Kuleshov, 1926)
• MEEK'S CUTOFF (Reichardt, 2010)
• MCCABE & MRS. MILLER (Altman, 1971)
• 7 MEN FROM NOW (Boetticher, 1956)
• THE OX-BOW INCIDENT (Wellman, 1942)
Tried to impose the limit of one movie per director, otherwise both FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE and ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST would be up there, as would STAGECOACH and WAGON MASTER. A more recent honorable mention: BONE TOMAHAWK. |
robertsona
08.29.20 | liking YELLOW RIBBON—which I like less than some of my friends—more than THE SEARCHERS is blasphemy |
evilford
08.29.20 | I've always thought best westerns were pretty shit for the price. Always dirty sheets on the bed |
Emim
08.29.20 | I love Django, but always felt that Foxx's role really could've been anyone. Definitely got overshadowed by Jackson, DiCaprio, and Waltz.
Also, I'm with Cole about Justified. Wouldn't call it the best Western, but it's phenomenal. |
Emim
08.29.20 | The Coen Bro's True Grit is a fantastic movie too. |
tectactoe
08.29.20 | THE SEARCHERS is amazing, truly, but the overarching theme of pride and wisdom and the impression of manliness that emanates through YELLOW RIBBOW just cuts me to pieces. When he’s alone at his wife’s grave toward the end...my god. |
MillionDead
08.30.20 | No Country for Old Men if you count Neo-westerns. Cohen Bros such great things with the genre. |
porcupinetheater
08.30.20 | Fucking lol, Ford |
vmcoia91
08.30.20 | My Darling Clementine. Didn't see it already mentioned. |

08.30.20 | yah ford is incredible, just one of the best directors. my darling clementine is very good too |
