Name an Artist, Get an Opinion

Just as the title says. Comment any number of artists and I'll give my general opinion on them (if I can) and my favorite album or song if applicable. Sorta stole this idea from oisincoleman64.
1Tool
Lateralus

I won't lie. Every Tool song sounds almost identical to me. Maynard's flat, emotionless vocals with no range to speak of do not appeal to me in the slightest. I get that they work with the feel Tool is going for, but I just find it boring. Their instrumentals, while pleasant sounding and unique when looking at the band as a whole, blend together when comparing individual songs. To put it simply, listening to any Tool song is like listening to one singular Tool song that is pretty good ig. And the song I'd choose to listen to would be Parabola literally just because it was the first Tool song I heard way back when I tried them. I will say, Tool is very nice to fall asleep to :)
2Pantera
Vulgar Display of Power

Obviously knew who they are, but I completely forgot what they sounded like. So I took a quick listen to the album I used for this post. Yeah now I know why I didn't remember them. I am not a fan of growl screams, and I never will be (with a few exceptions potentially). Instrumentation was good, but not actually worth listening to. No fave song.
3Fall Out Boy
Infinity on High

This sort of has to be divided into two sections: early FOB and current FOB. Early FOB is ok. That's it. Just ok. Middle of the road in terms of pop punk. It probably doesn't help that Patrick Stump's vocals can annoy me on a lot of songs. Something they were definitely good at was writing catchy, infectious, poppy hits, and they are at their best while leaning more into the pop side of pop punk. While definitely a more generic pic, my favorite song is Thnks Fr The Mmrs due to sheer infectiousness.

As for current FOB... burn it in hell. Bland, soulless, sell out garbage. While I would never call myself a fan of it, old FOB at least had life and flavor to it.
4Michael Jackson
Thriller

MJ is someone I don't listen to all that often, but I am never disappointed when I do. He is sort of a go to for pure 80s pop, which is something I have to be in a certain mood for. The obvious pick for favorite song is Thriller. It's kind of a no brainer.
5Taylor Swift
1989

I can't say I know her that well outside of common knowledge. Her most popular hits are usually irritating for me. As an artist overall she is pleasant to listen to but never something I would actively put on for myself. I don't particularly care for mainstream pop in general due to an overall lack of depth. Swift is definitely one of the better ones though. Favorite song would have to be Out of the Woods.
6Lana Del Rey
Norman Fucking Rockwell!

I remember back in high school my English teacher asked a question about Lana Del Rey and Father John Misty, and the classroom erupted into a buzz. Meanwhile, I, having one earbud in playing Ice Nine Kills, had no fucking idea what was going on. Out of curiosity, I looked into Lana's discography after class. Suffice to say, that was the only time I did that. No fave song.
7Babymetal
BABYMETAL

Yay I get to tell another school story. In AP World, my teacher loved putting on music while we prepared for the AP Exam. Every day he'd be playing a new artist. One day he put on Babymetal. Me, having just delved deeper into heavier music and general music appreciation at the time, was like "oh cool I like metal." Yeah um... Babymetal is basically just what happens when you attempt to mix every metal stereotype into an j-pop idol group. And the quality of their music reflects this. It's generic and uninteresting to me. No fave song.
8The Eradicator
Forever the Eradicator

Had literally never heard of them before today, but they were the only band Sam asked for so i gave their latest album a quick listen. I dig the energy of the instrumentation, but I dislike the vocals (I feel like this is a running theme for me lmao). Fave song is Squash Stomp just cause no vocals :)

Then I watched the video for "I'm A Squash Man" since Sam told me to watch their music videos. That song is actually better than anything on the other album. The video was also funny asf.
9Draconian
Under a Godless Veil

Another band I had never heard of. I tried the attached album and an earlier one with no cleans. The clean vocals are practically identical to those of Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation, which is good in terms of sound but bad in terms of standing out. I'd kinda just rather listen to Within Temptation over this. However, this is still pretty good. It achieves the gloomy atmosphere much better than the earlier album through the clean, haunting vocals. The growls are also much more tolerable on this. Overall a worthwhile listen.
10The Beatles
Revolver

Ah yes probably the most popular band of all time. Among the highest rated bands on here... they are pretty good. I can't say I love entire albums from them, but they make some incredible songs. Eleanor Rigby is a fucking masterpiece of epic proportions. The beautiful violin family instrumentals, the harmonic vocals, the lyrical narrative, the fleeting nature of it... God I love that song.
11 Pablo Picasso
The Weeping Woman

Dudes paintings are pretty funny. I'm of the opinion that most famous paintings aren't actually very good. Including his. They do provide comedy though.

Yes I actually am giving my opinion on him Mort.
12Rob Zombie
Hellbilly Deluxe

He's atrocious. His music matches his appearance exactly. Grimy, growly, and generally gross. I just don't understand the appeal of this dude at all. Obviously no fave song.
13Papa Roach
Infest

The epitome of obnoxious 2000s nu-metal. That is the only fitting definition I could think of for Papa Roach. They incapsulate everything annoying about the genre and lack any of the interesting aspects. Just seeing their name in the comments triggered the atrocity of Last Resort to loop in my head. No fave song.
143 Doors Down
Away from the Sun

A staple of generic early 2000s post grunge. They are fine. Inoffensive. A true 5/10 band. Average as can be. A positive of them is that they make excellent background music for everyone. They are nothing you are actually gonna pay attention to or care about, but they are okay enough to leave on if they come on w/out anyone complaining. Away from the Sun is probably my "favorite."
15Smash Mouth
All Star Smash Hits

"Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me . . . Hey, now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play." Literally the only song I know of theirs. And I only know it because it is such a huge meme. That pretty much sums up my thoughts on them.
16Blink-182
Enema of the State

My least favorite of the big 2000s pop punk bands. I find DeLonge's vocals infuriating and the band's lyrics to be immature and I don't resonate with them in the slightest. For me, they are basically the poor man's version of Sum 41 even though some friends tell me the opposite. No fave song.
17System of a Down
Toxicity

Finally a band I can speak positively about. I fucking love SOAD. Toxicity is one of my favorite albums ever. Every song from SOAD is incredibly fun and unique, and their lyrics always give me a laugh, grip me, or both. On Toxicity specifically, they somehow manage to twist their politically charged lyrics into songs that come off as incredibly zany. Prison Song is a definite favorite, as is Spiders off of self-titled. Deer Dance and X too. Any of those may be my favorite from them at any given time.
18Deftones
Diamond Eyes

The band behind one of my few 5/5s. One of the greatest bands of the 21st century. With a singer, Chino Moreno, who is one of my favorites of all time. Deftones is a band that captivated me from the start, and they only got better the more I dove into their discography. They are at their best when combining dreamlike, breathy shoegaze with their unique brand of heaviness. And that best soars to insane heights. I'd love to go see them live one day, but everytime I look it's like $200... But yeah, Deftones is easily a top band for me. My favorite song varies, but it's most commonly Sextape.
19Disturbed
The Sickness

Not even remotely enjoyable. The last time I listened to them was like two years ago, and even that is too soon. Whenever they come on SiriusXM when I'm in the car, I switch the station immediately. Nothing about them appeals to me. I'd describe their sound in detail aside from "generic metal," but that would require me playing a song of theirs to jog my memory. So no thank you. No fave song.
20Wolves at the Gate
Eulogies

It's pretty decent? It is basically just standard post hardcore. Including the growl screams which you must know by now I so loathe. It didn't do anything notable to stand out from it's contemporaries in my eyes, so I barely remember it despite listening to it for the first time just a few hours ago. Might edit this later when I get around to a second listen. No fave song for reasons above.
21Icon For Hire
The Reckoning

I only know one song of theirs - Sunflower - from another list I made a few days ago. That was also from Timbo. That song was ok I guess. Which means this band is ok I guess. Don't have much else to say about it.
22My Bloody Valentine
Loveless

Shoegaze icons. How could I not like them, the pioneers of the genre, when I love shoegaze so much. Are there other shoegaze bands I like more than them? Yes. Does that make MBV any less rad and important? Nope. Is it obvious that I'm getting tired from writing all these "mini band reviews." Most certainly. Favorite song is Only Shallow.
23The Smashing Pumpkins
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

Smashing Pumpkins is a weird one for me. I really want to like them more, but I just don't resonate with the vast majority of their songs. The reason for that is kinda unknown to me, which is strange because I usually know exactly why I don't like a band. Maybe it's Billy Corgan's vocals? I just don't think so. Bullet with Butterfly Wings is an awesome song though, and one of the only SP songs I vibe with.
24Fugazi
The Argument

Fugazi is great. My opinion about them isn't very strong, but I do enjoy their music. I remember the first time I tried them I really couldn't get into them, but when I tried the album attached at a later date, I really loved it. They go great in my Failure+Shiner playlist. Favorite song is Full Disclosure? Question mark cause I'm not entirely sure.
25Coheed and Cambria
In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3

It's a mixed bag. For example, I dislike The Second Stage Turbine. But I like In Keeping Secrets. The vocals walk a very fine line between good and annoying, sometimes leaning one way or another. Overall my.opinion of Coheed is positive. Favorite song is title track on In Keeping Secrets
26The Dillinger Escape Plan
One of Us Is the Killer

I'm sure you can gage my general opinion based on what you already know about me. I absolutely hate the songs where they are just screaming the whole time. Which is most of their songs. So the vast majority of the time, I hate them. There are a select few songs where they decide not do that and only scream a minimal amount at key moments, and those few songs are incredibly awesome. I like certain screams when used sparingly, but disliking music that is entirely screams or growls is a fundamental part of my taste. Favorite song is title track from attached album.
27Ween
The Mollusk

I'm trying them for the first time as I type this. Wtf am I listening to? It's weird asf, but I oddly don't have the compulsion to turn it off. It is like the aural equivalent of watching a fat naked man running down the street. It's gross, but so absurd you can't look away. I feel like I would need to be high to listen to this properly. I feel like this band was high when they made this. Scratch that, they definitely were.
28Sleepytime Gorilla Museum
Of Natural History

Odd band name. Anyway, I won't lie and say I didn't just skip around the album to write this. As always, don't like the growls, but they didn't really take away that much here. Cleans are great and the instrumentation/production is really cool and interesting. Overall a super unique and interesting band. Favorite was Phthisis.
29Carpenter Brut
Trilogy

I always enjoy some good electronic stuff. And this certainly fits the bill in that department. I don't think I have the patience to sit through the whole album right now, but I will definitely throw it on later when I'm doing something else. Good stuff here.
30Goropsy
garbage bin classic

It must have gotten lost in the garbage bin, cause I can't find it on streaming.
31Alvvays
Alvvays

It is enjoyable. The first song specifically does remind me a little too much of The Beths, but this came first so I suppose it would be the other way around. To answer Snake's question, I guess I do like sappy indie pop cause I do like this. I'll probably listen to them more at a later date. Will add fave song after I do so.
32Spiral Skies
Blues for a Dying Planet

I like it well enough. I don't think it has staying power for me though, so I probably won't come back to it.
33My Chemical Romance
The Black Parade

I was never really a fan of their sound. I obviously don't mind it, but it never hit me in a way for me to love it. The last time I listened to them was when their comeback single came out, and I found it to just be ok. Opinion: indifference.
34The Callous Daoboys
Celebrity Therapist

Literally could just copy paste my opinion on TDEP, remove any mention of songs w/out screams, and it would apply to this band. No thank you.
35Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
E 1999 Eternal

Not a fan of hip hop, with a few exceptions. This is not one of those exceptions.
36Blind Guardian
Nightfall in Middle-Earth

Power metal... eh.
37Rainbow
Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow

I don't listen to or care for very many bands from the 70s, but Rainbow is one of those bands. So that should say a good amount about my feelings on them. Rainbow is awesome, specifically their first three albums with Dio. Dio is such a great fucking vocalist. My favorite song has to be Catch the Rainbow.
