Best Hard Rock/Metal albums of 1975
Quite a good year, and I'm not talking about my birth. A few bands gave their best offerings, while classic ones (Led Zep and Sab') still high on their trade. |
1 | | Aerosmith Toys in the Attic
Third time is the charm for the Boston Aeros. Yes, this one contains all-time classic track "Walk this Way", but "Sweet Emotion" and the title track are also great moments in the Aerosmith catalog. |
2 | | Queen A Night at the Opera
Because this record is not 100 % Hard Rock or Metal, it is only at the second rank. But it is definitely Queen's Magnum Opus and I'm not only talking about the wonderful "Bohemian Rhapsody". |
3 | | Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti
Zep' had still a lot to offer as this is a double album and it never feels too long. The band managed to write the basic lines for the 80's hard rock. As a proof, how many bands tried to imitate the template of the oriental classic "Kashmir"? |
4 | | KISS Alive!
By hearsay the authenticity of this live album can be discussed but it gives a nice example of what Kiss was capable of back in the 70s. A whole generation (right, Rex from Pantera?) would never recover from this. |
5 | | Alice Cooper Welcome To My Nightmare
Barnum meets horror-rock for Alice's first solo album. A complete baroque offering that still feels creepy today. The featuring of Vincent Price in the intro of "Black Widow" would give some ideas to a certain King of Pop. |
6 | | Black Sabbath Sabotage
Contrary to what the band thought, turmoil with the management didn't "sabotage" the record (hence the title). Another load of Sab's classics with Symptom Of The Universe, Hole In The Sky and Snowblind. |
7 | | UFO Force It
Quite a forgotten band but this time, they rocked a lot. No real classics but a good 70s hard rock album. |
8 | | Kiss Dressed to Kill
The last album before super stardom. Contains the party anthem "Rock n'Roll All Nite (sic)" |
9 | | Scorpions In Trance
The first entry of a non-English speaking band in this retrospective. German band Scorpions was getting rid of their Hendrixian antics for much heavier flavours. The title track is a must. |
10 | | Rush Fly by Night
First album with Drum sensei Neil Peart and you can hear it. Prog lovers and fantasy buffs will enjoy the long and joyful epic "By-Tor and the Snow Dog". |
