Doof's Top 100 Albums 2021

I won't describe the albums but will just ramble a bit about the highs and lows of my 2021 which was a complete change for me in a lot of ways. Albums roughly in order.
1Springtime (AUS)
Springtime

2021 was definitely one of the best years of my life, despite Covid, though also some lows.
2Turnstile
Glow On

Becoming a father in February was stressful (the birth itself was traumatic and a lengthy process - we were in hospital about a week) but immediately incredible.
3bruit
The Machine Is Burning...

I remember Guitarded Chuck talking here about parenting and saying there's nothing worse than becoming a parent if it isn't for you, you shouldn't compromise - but then I think no one knows in advance quite how they will adapt and react. I definitely had worries and would never have described myself as a natural with children.
4The War On Drugs
I Don't Live Here Anymore

I knew my wife was a genius with kids which helped ease most worries. It really surprised me though, I adapted really quick and immediately enjoyed being a parent. Changes your life totally and irreversibly but I embraced it. Helped that she's a really happy and easy going baby.
5The Felice Brothers
From Dreams to Dust

I did feel a lot of stress though and I guess it was inevitable it would find an outlet. i struggled with an online slots compulsion for a bit, it served as a total escape I'd do in binges every now and then when alone. It was never too much and 70% of my income goes into a joint account and another 5% in a fund for my daughter but I still had a fair bit of spare cash and I'd already saved £10k over the pandemic.
6Arab Strap
As Days Get Dark

Still, I looked back and on and off over seven months I'd burned through losses of about £3000 and wasn't saving any more. The fun of winning £1500 from one spin on about three occasions was very enticing and as I said a pure form of escape.
7Injury Reserve
By The Time I Get To Phoenix

Luckily I haven't gambled now for three months and moved on to other hobbies as i tend to do but I definitely diced with danger and addiction there.
8Tropical Fuck Storm
Deep States

My life has in some ways been helped by the pandemic and definitely working from home has helped me be the prime carer of my daughter since my wife returned to work and she started nursery. I probably look after her about 4 hours on my own per day and I drop her and pick her up from nursery which is only a walk away. But basically I am a house husband who also (mostly) works from home doing 90% of the chores during the week and looking after the baby a lot too. It's really fucking busy.
9The Bug
Fire

I do go to the gym after dropping her at nursery but since she was at nursery I've also had 5 or 6 illnesses ranging from norovirus to laryngitus, loads of things, not Covid yet. With limited sleep it does hit you.
10Lambchop
Showtunes

Weekends I love but I never liked that 'just living for the weekend' attitude but there's a bit of that I have to admit.
11Low
Hey What

With music I fit it around this busy schedule but it has definitely dropped 30% or there abouts. Listening to music on headphones walking to the nursery at 7am with the sunrise is surprisingly enjoyable, I actually look forward to that which I'd never have expected. Never been a morning person.
12Gas
Der Lange Marsch

Social shit has to be organised at least a week in advance but I've made it work. We also snuck out of the UK on holiday in June and that was one of my favourite holidays of all time, just getting away from Covid UK monotony at that point was worth the slight rule bend and cash for testing.
13Lil Ugly Mane
Volcanic Bird Enemy...

So yeah, amazing year, parenthood is what I always wanted - even with the night terrors of 'my child could die' - it is worth it.
14Amyl and the Sniffers
Comfort To Me

Random stuff I enjoyed in 2021:

Curb Your Enthusiasm, the Dune film, Antonio Conte as Spurs manager, South Park’s PC Baby episodes, The Wheel of Time TV Show, The Leftovers, South American meat restaurants, watching the Euros while on holiday, pineapple rum, the South Korean netflix shows

Random stuff I didn’t enjoy in 2021:

The abysmal Wandavision, people saying ‘masks are great for hygiene, I’d like for everyone to continue wearing them in crowded public places’, the ABBA reunion, people jabbed and in non vulnerable groups not supporting businesses they must know they’d eventually miss like the cinema etc, the Black Widow film
