anat 12.11.21	tough old year for albums but the lesser output was to be expected what with all that's going on nice to see 57, 61 - 81 i had no clue about so will pop that on the catch up list and as ever thanks for your support with regards to my own stuff, appreciate its inclusion to begin with but made up with its position

NorthernSkylark 12.11.21	Sweet list Doof. We have a lot of 2021 albums in common! (as expected) And still there’s a LOT of stuff here that I either need to revisit or maybe check out. I’m pretty burned out after listening to a ton of 2021 stuff rec, but I might give 19 and 88 a chance.
DoofDoof 12.11.21	Lark - definitely give 19 a few spins, think I slightly prefer it to their first one. There's also a Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and Bill Callahan collaboration that's just come out this week but I've only spun it once so far, it could yet make the cut for top 100 so that might be worth trying out too.

DoofDoof 12.12.21	Triple D - yeah, the BadBad I liked, that could have made the list I just only listened to it once. The new Pernadas I think is about the same quality as his best early stuff, the instrumental more jazz stuff he put out I rate as a little weaker though. I dig his style though.

It's a strangely rewarding day by day routine meets thrill meets stress meets life epiphanies but my girl just started walking around 3 days ago at 1 year 3 months and it almost brought me to tears. As always, great selection doofus, hope all is well.

DoofDoof 12.12.21	Triple D - I was unaware you’re a dad too, yeah my mum was saying best part is aged 2-3, just miniature little people at that point Johnny - obviously haven’t finished it yet, and it’s very derivative of LOTR/GoT/etc - but it just hits the spot right now Zak - I 100% anticipated you sticking to Amyl as your top album of 2021, it’s right up there for me too, be interesting if they can top it with the next one :/ Wasn’t sure you’d embrace the Dune adaptation, definitely of the five films I’ve watched in the cinema this year it was by far my favourite
Sunnyvale 12.12.21	5 and 11 will certainly make my top 10, with 16, 21, and 26 not far behind. In general, I've heard close to half the albums on here and like pretty much every one of them, even if not all will make my list.
JohnnyoftheWell 12.12.21	would disagree that it's derivative of GoT tbh and not just bc the source material is older; think the way violence, gender and sexual politics are handled is radically different and mostly more refined, if less titillating. LOTR politics are ofc plentiful. shaky start, but the characters and world building are mostly there by now - excited to see how they round off the season

Gyromania 12.12.21	I just discovered glow on recently and it's been very quickly rising in the ranks of my best of 2021. I need to hear some of these before I make my year end list. Especially Gas, can't believe I haven't listened to that yet I too enjoyed South Korean Netflix shows and I'm very much liking the wheel of time show atm. It lacks the big budget of a show like GoT, but it's noticeably much better than the witcher.

DoofDoof 12.12.21	DDD - 5 is very different to Leon III, it’s more traditional alt country/folk, still worth checking I’d say Gyro - agreed The Witcher had some of the cheapest looking production going, it needed a lot of work I thought, maybe season 2 will fix that

I guess there wasn’t really a big indie rock release like Arcade Fire or The National this year though How old are the books? My buddy who recommended the show said they’re held up quite seriously in fantasy genre circles but I presumed they were still quite recent
theBoneyKing 12.12.21	Yeah you’re right about the overlap I guess there just isn’t a big consensus pick for this year like you say. War on Drugs is kind of it I guess but even then I didn’t fall for that as much as I wanted to. Was 3 a late find for you? I remember seeing it here a bit earlier in the year but don’t know much about it. The books were released from 1990-2013 (so actually predate GoT - though the show is certainly responding to/influenced by GoT in some ways; ironically the GoT books were themselves more a response to the era that WoT was kind of the end of). I got on them a couple years before the last one came out and they were pretty formative for me as they were the first “adult” fantasy books I read outside of LOTR. It’s kind of a controversial series, it’s a big investment and there’s kind of a wide range of quality across the books. Those who love it really love it and those who hate it really hate it.
DoofDoof 12.12.21	3 was a very late find but maybe my favourite post rock album of the last 5+ years - usually the genre bores me a bit have to admit This album has something though
DoofDoof 12.12.21	I haven’t really connected on a massively deep level with Wheel of Time yet and I might not rate the last few eps but so far I’m enjoying. I’ll look up the controversy surrounding it all and read the reviews of the series once it’s done - I’m guessing Den of Geek is covering it?
theBoneyKing 12.12.21	Interesting re: 3. Can’t say I have a huge appetite for post-rock these days either but I may give it a spin before EOY. Makes sense you haven’t connected with WoT too much yet. The biggest draw of the books I’d say is the depth of the worldbuilding and so far the show hasn’t dug into that too much yet (which makes sense as the books take more time to develop that aspect as well).
Demon of the Fall 12.13.21	Tropical Fudge is my #1 (out of the pathetically small no. of releases I've gotten around to checking). Nice varied list as per usual Doofy. Good to hear about the family and the fact you managed to overcome the gambling thing... seems way too easy to get sucked into that shit nowadays. So accessible/readily available 24/7.
DoofDoof 12.13.21	Thanks Demon, the TFS was a little overlooked by people I think. Yeah, as everyone here knows I’m very obsessive/compulsive with this hobby and it’s the same with others so not a good match with online gambling. Watching the Paul Merson documentary about online sports betting sites that came out about a month after I’d stopped was interesting, a real expose on how it all works. I was never in big trouble with it but I was just pleased I was no longer giving any money to that industry.
fogza 12.13.21	WoT is more straight fantasy than GoT, i read a few books and then gave up. The series is ok so far but the Witcher is far better.
DoofDoof 12.13.21	I dunno, The Witcher felt like a bit of a missed opportunity and the Ciri plot/scenes were sometimes a bit uneventful. Plus as mentioned above...not enough monster action. On the plus side, the actress who played Yennefer really nailed that role, definite soft spot there
