| Almost Done With College
Going to be finishing up my Associate's in Small Business Entrepreneurship this May. I'm three years in the making, first year was spent on a different degree I transferred out of, so I'm definitely excited. I can't even begin to explain how much my life has changed since I started college back in August 2015. Started it off with a girlfriend that I later learned is insane and emotionally abusive, a lack of self-confidence in my professional and educational work, etc. Now, I'm with a new girlfriend for the past 6 months that is the definition of perfect. Great taste in music, likes movies, video games, music, etc. We have practically the same personality. My self-confidence in my work has also improved greatly now that I've been forced to face uncomfortable situations for myself such as meeting with business owner's to conduct informational interviews/to network, developing employee handbooks, etc. As for work after I get my degree, my boss at my current job (a small town grocery store), has asked if I'd be interested in mostly running the store (he'd be around about 20% of the time). He said he'd give me compensation and more specific information about the job once I actually graduate. Could be a great opportunity! Otherwise, if that doesn't work out for whatever reason, I'll likely start pursuing other jobs, trying to find something more management-aligned or better paying in general. If I can't find what I'm looking for, I'll spend some time to save up money and go on for my bachelor's in Business Administration. | 1 | | Neck Deep Life's Not Out To Get You | 2 | | The Wonder Years Suburbia I've Given You All and Now I'm Nothing | 3 | | Grayscale Adornment | 4 | | Creedence Clearwater Revival Willy and the Poor Boys | 5 | | Aerosmith Toys in the Attic | 6 | | Can't Swim Death Deserves a Name | |

04.29.18 | nice dude I graduate (with an English degree as well, lol) may 15 | Get Low
04.29.18 | I hope your luck post-graduation will be better than mine, lol. | robertsona
04.29.18 | yeah I ain't got shit lined up but hopefully that'll change soon. it's been really tough, this last semester. haven't done the readings for like any of my classes which makes writing the papers hard. 3 10-page papers left and a science final | Get Low
04.29.18 | Hahaha, motivating yourself to do all the reading is the toughest part of the major tbh, especially when you have multiple lit classes. Writing papers is annoying, but we English majors, so we git'r'done. | robertsona
04.29.18 | yeah I'm in no way under the illusion that this shit is worse than like p-sets or whatever lol | SymbolicInTime
04.29.18 | A big part of why I went for business is that it's knowledge that is applicable in nearly any type of job you work. It never hurts to have business sense. I started out with Human Services, which also could be applicable most places, albeit less so, in my opinion. But when we had to start doing mock counseling sessions with a partner, I found out how little I really care about people's problems... Oh well. lol

04.29.18 | Out of curiosity, what sort of jobs are out there for an English degree? | Get Low
04.29.18 | Fast food, Wal-mart stocker/cashier, begger, Starbuck's barista, professional welfare manipulator. | someguest
04.29.18 | lol | SymbolicInTime
04.29.18 | idk where you live, but Starbuck's baristas actually make decent money for what they're doing. Around here, they start at $12/hr, which, enough to afford a place and live decently. At least where I live. But damn that's a pretty expansive list dude, think i'd go with welfare manipulation. | Get Low
04.29.18 | They won't give baristas anything more than part-time around here so a living can't really be made off of it. I've actually been kicked off of food stamps twice, so welfare manipulation is a no go. Might try beggar next. | SymbolicInTime
04.29.18 | Oh, the dreaded part-time only... yeah gvt assistance can be really hit or miss. Some people seemingly live off food stamps, state-sponsored health care, etc. for way longer than they should, while other people get kicked off for the dumbest reasons. For example, when I started college, I had just turned 18. I didn't want to live at my mom's anymore, as it was kind of a toxic environment, so I got my own place. As soon as I had my address updated through everything, I got kicked off our state health care immediately, even though I was dirt poor. Even though they told me before I moved that I would qualify for coverage until I was 23. Shitty system | Get Low
04.29.18 | Without going into detail, basically the exact same thing happened to me. You really can't depend on the government for anything. | SymbolicInTime
04.29.18 | Hope things turn around for you man! | Get Low
04.29.18 | Thanks man, I'm sure they will. Hope things go good for you as well! | UpwardSpiral
