Was talking to a friend from Long Island, NY the other day. He had grown up seeing live the bands below. I had also been influenced by these bands in the early 1990's. Struck me that (after the temporary demise of 80's hard rock [e.g., Anthrax, Dream Theatre]) NY alternative and metal had a huge influence in the early 1990's - keeping metal alive through grunge and post-grunge. And then, around 1995/1996 - when nu-metal came around - focus shifted to the west coast - and several of these bands either broke up (e.g., White Zombie) or just shifted out of the public eye (e.g., Prong). Meantime

More influential in tone than most would have imagined. Slip is still standout to this day. And still kicking out great albums. | |

10.09.23 | I had a random friend at college who was into Type O. Can’t even remember this dude’s name - but he convinced me to see them at the masquerade - for the October Rust tour. TBH - hadn’t heard much of them b4 seeing them live. It was shock and awe, for me - a classic WTF did I just see moment. And how physically imposing Peter Steele was... 10.09.23 | Funny - but the list title - “NY, NY” comes from a snippet of a Frank Sinatra song. I’m generally referring to NYC though. But isn’t Long Island just a glorified suburb of NYC/Manhattan? At least that was my take from visiting both many moons ago…traffic into the city suggests so. | DadKungFu
