| Dad Metal that Doesn’t Suck
We’ve all seen the macho dads - with their windows rolled down and flaunting a heavy (grungy) style of music - and thinking they’re badass. When I think on this - nu metal music (from about 1995 to 2004ish) readily comes to mind. TBH, I have been guilty of this in the past. Here are some currently viable dadmetal bands that don’t suck. | 1 | | Slipknot The End, So Far
...can still be brutal AF. Love this band - and Corey Taylor is one of the best all-time metal vocalists. Other bands (early 5FDP and Bad Wolves) have tried to ape this sound, but just slip into the mainstream. Not Slipknot - they still have that x factor that makes them unique. | 2 | | Korn Requiem
Always changing it up and keeping it fresh. And JD, like Ozzy, has a voice like no other. Imitators (Adema, Head himself) have come and gone - and Korn just keeps pushing out top-notch albums. | 3 | | Deftones Ohms
...always coming up with something unique. Chino being another incredibly unique vocalist. For those of you that think LP were the end-all, be-all, started nu metal, and should be here on this list - FU, u weren’t there back then and they didn’t start anything. | 4 | | Mudvayne Mudvayne
I know - they've seen their share of mediocre releases. But after pulling back out the face and body paint; I have a good feeling about the new album coming soon - can’t wait. Chad Gray is a badass. | 5 | | Chevelle NIRATIAS
Although not the most original band - they just keep putting out quality albums. Can’t be said for contemporaries like Godsmack, Disturbed, and Staind, who have some big losers in the deck. Not even going to go there with Staind and Aaron Lewis - early Staind did perform in straight jackets - just saying. | 6 | | Alter Bridge Pawns and Kings
I hesitate to put this band on here. But for a mainstream post-grunge, somewhat nu-metal band - Alter Bridge rocks hard. Tremonti is a talented guitarist, whose own solo albums are quite good as well. Myles Kennedy is a pretty incredible crooner. They have at least kept a moderate to high level of quality over the years; whereas the multitude of mainstream bands (Nickelback, Seether, Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Saint Asonia, etc.) are just cookie cutter and a disappointment. | 7 | | Mushroomhead A Wonderful Life
MRH still has it. Something unique to them and still there. No matter the band member changes - this is still a band that experiments and pushes limits. | 8 | | Evanescence The Bitter Truth
Yeah....this is a tough one. I still think Amy Lee is an incredible singer. Albums have really dropped in quality (or memorability) over the years; but they're still some jems to be found in the later discography. | |

04.28.23 | a wonderful life is the worst nu metal album i have ever listened to and i will not stand for this heresy
EVERYTHING that made mushroomhead mushroomhead is gone, no interesting keyboards, no unique vocal harmonies, no passable guitarwork, no atmosphere, no catchy hooks, no coherent song structures, nothing
plus EVERY second of that steaming pile of shit is spent spiting the guys who made them good
it's not only bad but it's proud and uppity about being bad

04.28.23 | Corey Taylor has a great voice but imo he writes really bland unmemorable melodies that don't do him justice like 90% of the time (unlike the Chevelle guy who writes bland unmemorable melodies that perfectly suit his bland unmemorable voice) | BAT
04.28.23 | hate that most of this list implicates me as dadrock, ohwellp. in vein of your list : incubus, rage against the machine, pantera, tool, marilyn manson, system of a down, third eye blind, meshuggah, suffocation, and prodigy
and the real answers : iggypop&stooges, van halen, and pink floyd | Spec
04.28.23 | lol kompys | JDubb
04.28.23 | @wham49 - depending on when u came into Slipknot - it was nearly a quarter century ago. For me it was 1999 - 24 years ago. Yeah - dad metal. | JDubb
04.28.23 | @ BAT - don’t disagree with most of those bands - but most are marginally viable (I.e. recording, touring) nowadays. Tried to focus on those bands still in the fray. Pantera - I would classify as dad rock (see prior list) - I was jammin’ Cowboys from Hell in like 9th grade ( a long ass time ago). | bellovddd
