| Dad Rock That Doesn’t Suck
Let’s be honest with our(old)selves, for those have been rockin’ since the 1970’s and 1980’s,and into the early 1990’s. Dad rock is mostly, pretty lame nowadays. But these bands used to rule - you say. True. But blasting Van Halen ( as an example) out your car speakers isn’t going to get you any props these days. But there are a select few Dad rock bands that still hit hard and are respectable (to an extent), as follows. | | 1 |  | Black Sabbath

The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!
Album after album, Mustaine has been slamming - releasing banging’ tracks, videos, and the like. Voice is getting a bit rough though. Same cannot be said for Anthrax ( a timepiece), Slayer (retired?), and other historical thrash giants. | | 5 |  | Metallica

This album is better than it should be. Somehow this band (of highly variable output of quality) stays relevant. Can’t say the same for their peers (ex. Motley Crue, GnR, Sebastian Bach, etc.) - who are shit versions of their former selves. | | 6 |  | Tool

Rainier Fog
AIC are still finding a way to keep it (somewhat) interesting- but it’s becoming harder and harder. A video for each track/overarching movie at least made the last release interesting. The same cannot be said for any of the remaining grunge/alternative dinosaurs (PJ, STP, RHCP, Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, etc.) - who are just tired sounding. | |

04.27.23 | Continued relevancy has favored those bands with a metal bend. What can I say - Metal does rise to the top! IMO, 1980’s Hard rock and early 1990’s alternative were permeated with copycats and lesser bands (poseurs), which diluted their ability to stay relevant. | Sharenge

I would add Chevelle to the list. Probably the only contemporary radio rock band that all of the dads love that I sorta get behind. | JDubb

Dad rock meaning any music made before a specific arbitrary timefame (differs from person to person) that is considered obsolete and absolutely unlistenable. For this list - I picked up to 1995 as that timing. Dad metal being more of a heavy (grungy) style of music that your dad would listen to thinking he's a badass. The latter definitely applies to nu metal bands (see next list). | bellovddd

05.05.23 | Yeah - 70's rock is so far back in the rearview mirror now. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple - each formed 55 years. Thin Lizzy - 54 years ago. I revere it, but consider it (grand)dad rock. IMO, Dad Rock is a bit more modern (mid to late 1980's hard rock, early 1990's grunge/alternative, some post-grunge). |
