samwise2000 11.13.19	Would love to see everyone's lists! Hope to update my list within the next month with descriptions! Also, if its not already obvious, I don't own a Nintendo console form the past few generations other than the 3DS, so many great games, such as Mario Odyssey and the latest Zelda didn't make it onto my list simply because I haven't enjoyed them yet (one day I will hopefully).

DungeonBoy 11.13.19	oh wow, i just ordered the Last Guardian last night. Loved ICO and SOTC, so i'm pretty stoked to play it. I've been on mostly an indie binge the past couple years, but there have been some real gems: Hollow Knight, Blasphemous, Celeste, were all very enjoyable. I beat Chasm earlier this week, and it was much better than the reviews give it credit for, however, i believe it was patched a bunch after the initial flack. Just downloaded Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon last night and I am very stoked about that one

WatchItExplode 11.13.19	Bloodstained absolutely rules. I'm neck deep in New Vegas for the first time and might be the best RPG I've played since the first Mass Effect. Also someone needs to mention Dragon's Dogma, sooooo...I just did.
Demon of the Fall 11.13.19	1, 2, 4 & 8 rule, nice list. 'also wtf is this pervert hentai shit at number 2 lol' - it's actually a really cool puzzle game with an engaging narrative and multiple endings. I think the player is supposed to be attracted to the lass in the pic, otherwise the game and 'decision making' simply wouldn't work, or at least wouldn't feel personal. There's literally nothing pervy about it though, well maybe a little if you're 14 and get excited by half-clothed anime girls, but not really. It's not like you see much. I played it for the first time when I was just getting into a relationship and tried to be as genuinely 'me' as possible, which was an interesting perspective. I didn't read too much into the outcome mind.

DungeonBoy 11.13.19	I've been so on the fence of getting Dragon's Dogma, and y'all don't help ;) I liked Skyrim a lot but didn't enjoy the Witcher 3, which I played for about 10 hours before putting down.
WatchItExplode 11.13.19	Dragon's Dogma is all about that Bitterblack Isle. Turns into a whole new experience. I also enjoyed the vanilla quest but it really doesn't compare to how intense that expansion is. You didn't really play DD if you didn't experience Dark Arisen.

SymbolicInTime 11.13.19	I never played the original, so I cant compare them honestly. From what I've heard though, the remake loses some of the personality of the original, but the weapon selection is a bit better. Without something to compare it to, though, I absolutely loved it

Demon of the Fall 11.13.19	My mum bought me (and my younger bro) the original on a whim, she later revealed (to me) that it was because she was concerned about all the violent games we played, lol (I was a teenager, but she was more concerned with him). Great choice mum, I’ve loved the franchise ever since.

Saros 11.13.19	As much of a fighting game fan I am, I've barely even played a Mortal Kombat game. I might've played a few rounds when I was at friends' houses, but I never was a big fan of the series. I was always more a Tekken and Soul Calibur guy, with some Street Fighter and MvC here and there.

DungeonBoy 11.13.19	oh, but street fighter has always had the tightest controls. MK was stiff as heck, but it pushed the boundaries so hard, it was easily ignored. Soul Caliber was great. I always dug Darkstalkers cause of the sprite-work and animation.
Saros 11.13.19	Darkstalkers is so fucking underrated and it's a massive crime the series is practically dead now, and probably will remain that way thanks to Capcom. It's a shame because I really loved its concepts.

budgie 11.13.19	"it looks.. promising?" maybe to some. i went into some diablo 3 communities to see what the general opinion is about how the franchise should move forward and the news about diablo 4 having a simplified version of diablo 3 itemization (how can you simplify it further) has upset what seems to be a very small corner of the community. overall reaction has been "diablo 2 isn't actually good ppl are just looking at it with rose-tinted glasses" and "diablo 3 is good and diablo 4 should be like diablo 3" so i don't see why blizzard would restore the franchise, i don't think they're even capable, i don't think they've made a good product since 2004 lol. diablo 3 sold so many fucking copies idk why they would even bother. i'll be forever butthurt though because diablo 2 is a religious thing to me and it feels like the company just made a shitty console clone and it seems like diablo 4 will be the same bullshit where they just completely ignore the original fans of diablo 1 and 2 it makes me ANGRY! but yeah basically no it the trailer/gameplay for 4 looks shit and maybe i will try an open beta out of curiosity but no i have no expectations and there's 0% chance it will be anywhere near as good as diablo 2 budgie has spoken
DungeonBoy 11.13.19	oh man, I played Diablo II (and I) again just last year and still loved it. Diablo III is not a good Diablo game. My impression was that it looked a little darker than 3, so I'm hoping it goes back to more of the horror/suspense roots.
budgie 11.13.19	aesthetic is important to be sure but i wouldn't care if it was more of the same isometric world of warcraft look as long as the fucking game was decent haha. i don't think just making it look dark will save the product if that's all it has going for it.

Saros 11.13.19	DMC 5 is probably my favorite this year. Astral Chain, Super Mario Maker 2 and Samurai Shodown all look pretty great too but I haven't played any of them yet.

Gyromania 11.14.19	I hate how restrictive their missions are. If you ever try to think outside of the box to complete an objective: "Mission Failed". Plus the vast majority of missions are: "go to this point on the map to meet this dude. Follow this dude for a while to the actual objective. Engage in another shooting gallery for the millionth time". The actual story and character progression feels so good for the first 3 chapters, and then I feel like the writing takes a huge nosedive towards the back end
Wildcardbitchesss 11.14.19	I totally get that. I like linear games so I felt the game was as perfect as an open world game could be. And though a lot of the game is riding around on horses listening to people talk to each other, I felt the dialogue was good enough to make it worthwhile.
Gyromania 11.14.19	I liked the dialogue too for the most part, I just hate how abruptly everything comes to a head. Dutch and Arthur and a few others are so well written, I just wish the last few chapters didn't feel so rushed. There are some really incredible random encounters in the open world though. Did you ever find the brother and sister? Or the serial killer? Those were so awesome - I wish there were more cool sidequests like those.

Gallantin 11.14.19	As much as I love New Vegas, I wouldn't even play it again. Even on PC with mods, I cannot stomach that pre-2010 Bethesda engine. Pillars of Eternity is an isometric RPG made in the style of Baldur's Gate and other Infinity engine games. One of my favourite games this decade and just a straight fun classic RPG throwback

Expectations for games are so low that when a game that isn't complete garbage in the writing department, people hail it as the best writing ever. Not unlike how people praised the fuck out of RDR2's story, which is nothing special especially for its genre, or God of War, which is literally just the same dad and boy story that's been told a billion times. And yeah, the Witcher, which is an average fantasy RPG with dialogue that isn't complete crap and features basic meaningful choices (which shouldn't be such a big ask for RPGs, but here we are ).So the Witcher is okay, but you shouldn't expect anybody to be impressed by it. If we're talking strictly games, my favourite writing is in Fallout 1, Planescape: Torment, and Demon's Souls. I also have a soft spot for Metal Gear Solid 3 but not on the basis that it's fantastic writing, I just really love campy spy shit.

aydross121 11.14.19	Well this is just my 2 cents ofc, but I feel like the best stories in video games are the ones that couldn't really be told in other medium. There's stuff like the fromsoft games where most of the plot is disjointed and told via the environment. Great storywise moments come from making connections between seemingly unrelated plots. When I realized that the person that had murdered the firekeeper in DS1 was the same person I had freed a while ago it blew me away, it felt organic in a sense. A cutscene with Lautrec screaming "I KILLED THAT BITCH" wouldn't have worked as effectively. Also take Undertale or Stanley Parable for example, how would you translate the experience into, say, a movie? Obviously more traditional narratives have their merit, it's just not really what I usually want in a game.

Those are all things which add depth. I don't see it as a solely casual experience (although my experience with the game now makes it easier than it once was).

Maybe my favourite game all time tbh. game is VERY FLAWED, extremely clunky combat, poor balancing and some of the worst acting you've ever heard. BUT - Game has unbelievable immersion and one of the satisfying senses of progress in gaming. Gothic is designed around the idea that your character is a nothing piece of shit, EVERYTHING will kill you. Even at higher levels you will struggle taking on 2+ enemies. People in the game world will fuck you up, scam you, take advantage of you, and there is jack shit you can do about it. You have to keep your wits about you. You have to carefully pick and choose your battles. You can and SHOULD run away from most fights. The world is unleveled with end-game creatures found near the beginning of the game. It is extremely satisfying to constantly test the waters of your strength and that one enemy that seemed impossible is now slightly manageable. You spend tons of time sneaking around EXTREMELY dangerous wastelands with enemies that can one shot you. You have to plan out your routes, you have to play very carefully. The combat is very clunky but 100% rewards good players. The combat system is very demanding and difficult to master, has a very high skill ceiling. You start spend a good majority of the game being able to kill almost nothing by the end of the game you are slaying Dragons, raining hellfire, summoning skeletons and wearing paladin armour. 10/10

Garrus is probably my favorite character in the entire series but he’s so boring in ME1. Saren is the best part of the game and he’s not in it nearly enough. Literally the only thing ME1 has on the rest of the series is that it’s actually an RPG ME2 and ME3 (yes terrible ending and all) are leagues above that game. And the less said about Andromeda the better...

Demon of the Fall 11.15.19	Ending was sucky yeah and I felt like they dumbed down the RPG elements in favour of making a solid shooter (which it was, of course), the missions weren't as engaging and it was noticeably more linear. I know ME has never been an open world game, but give me some options damn it. It just felt like an on-rails shooter for practically the entire game and the progression system was almost non-existent, maybe I'm remembering wrong idk. My expectations were definitely not met. I only played it once.

The main questline in Witcher 3 isn't amazing asides from the bloody baron quests, but the side quests are perhaps the best I've seen in an rpg, not your typical fetch quest nonsense. And ofc both dlcs are superb. Hearts of Stone is a great faustian tale with memorable characters and Blood & Wine added a gorgeous new region with a shit ton of stuff to see and do. I think it's the best at making you feel like a survivalist soldier in an extremely realistic environment where you have to think about multiple resources and such, while still being streamlined enough to keep you fully engaged in the gameplay and not bogged down by inventory management or anything like that.

Just one that comes close to anything Telltale games have done. I don't think you have even played one of their games for more than 5 minutes. If you did, and hated it you might have really bad taste.
samwise2000 11.23.19	Wolf Among Us was really great, especially for me, an avid fan of Fables. I think anyone who enjoyed it needs to check out the comics, they are brilliant in every way.
