Top Ten Emo Records

This past year I've been digging into the marvellous genre that is emo. Below are ten of the best records I've heard so far and some easily stand among my all-time favourites.
10Everyone Everywhere
Everyone Everywhere

As the driving guitars introduce "Tiny Planet" you know you're in for a good time. While not quite as distinctive as the other picks on this list Everyone Everyone is a delicate gem with an aggressive backbone. It's also free on their Bandcamp page. https://everyoneeverywhere.bandcamp.com/album/everyone-everywhere
9Penfold
Amateurs and Professionals

Another recent find of mine, Penfold's seven-song debut is fantastic from front to back. It possesses a similar vibe to The Power of Failing and SDRE's Diary and as expected the sound that combination delivers is nothing but great.
8Mineral
The Power of Failing

The slightly more aggressive side of Mineral is found on this side of the coin. While not quite as moving as EndSerenading for this music lover, The Power.... is a superbly raw experience and one I've been reliving again and again.
7Brand New
The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me

So why is this so low? Well, as much as this record holds a special place in my collection, I don't spin it too often anymore. It has nothing to do with Lacey's crime or becoming disconnected with it, I just have a preference to the softer side of emo these days. That said, whenever I do go back to it, it hits just as hard as it did when I first heard it.
6American Football
American Football

It's an indisputable emo classic, what else is there to say? The influence this record created continues to be heard even today. And to boot, it has one of my favourite album covers of all-time.
5Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate)
What It Takes to Move Forward

It was incredibly difficult deciding whether to put this above EndSerenading or not but its length makes it slightly less accessible so at five it goes. Even so, I've been in love with this record since hearing it for the first time in December.
4Mineral
EndSerenading

These guys are my most recent discovery and they've already found a home among my all-time favourites. Both The Power of Failing and EndSerenading are emo masterpieces but it's the latter I keep coming back to.
3Jimmy Eat World
Clarity

I may as well go all out and call Jimmy Eat World my favourite band of all time. The sheer volume of excellent records they've released is nearly staggering. However, Clarity will always be their masterpiece.
2The Hotelier
Home, Like NoPlace Is There

Home is the definition of an emotionally wrenching record. If the devastating subject matter isn't enough the despondent and cathartic music should leave you feeling a little shaken up after.
1Suis La Lune
Riala

If I could have a musical record as a spouse I would buy a ring and marry Riala at the very next minute. One of the most gorgeously composed records I have ever heard. It honestly should be hailed as an emo classic.
