10.24.17 | How do you include 1 and 3 but not In Flames | Astral Abortis
10.24.17 | liers in wait and grotesque missing and that cant be excused | bgillesp
10.24.17 | Only half of 1 and 3s albums are good. IF has about the same ratio, just way more total | bgillesp
10.24.17 | Also dismember only had like 2 decent albums (albeit those two were very good) and they're on | Astral Abortis
10.24.17 | uhm wtf bgil, edge of sanity and at the gates both have a greater quantity AND quality of classics than in flames could ever fucking dream of | Astral Abortis
10.24.17 | although i'd also argue that in flames have no good albums, and i'd argue that edge of sanity and at the gates have created six of the greatest death metal albums ever made | bgillesp
10.24.17 | I'd give five between the two of them AA. I never said they didn't deserve to be on there. I just think IF deserves a spot if only for The Jester Race alone, my favorite melodeath out there | bgillesp
10.24.17 | I'm not a fan of With Fear... or TSD at all though. | Astral Abortis
10.24.17 | at the gates: gardens 5/5, the red 5/5, with fear 5/5
edge of sanity: spectral 5/5, purgatory 5/5, crimson 5/5 | Scoob
10.24.17 | 4 1 6 7 8 2 5 3 10 | bgillesp
10.24.17 | Ok. | Scoob
10.24.17 | Oh I forgot carnage
INFESTATION OF EVIL | SoilPethSymmetry
10.27.17 | I didn't include In Flames because I consider them melodic death metal and not old school. If I were to include melodeath bands then Soilwork would have easily been number one for me. Opeth isn't on the list because they're just far more progressive than most bands on here (minus Edge of Sanity's later stuff, which still has way more in common with the other bands on this list than Opeth), and bands like Entrails, Firespawn, and Cut Up aren't on the list because they're too recent to be considered "classic" death metal. "But then why are Hypocrisy, At the Gates, and Edge of Sanity on this list?" you may ask. Well, I'm basing this list on their material that isn't what I'd consider melodeath (Penetralia and Osculum Obscenum for Hypocrisy, Gardens of Grief, The Red in the Sky is ours, and With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness for At The Gates, and Nothing but Death Remains, Unorthodox, and The Spectral Sorrows for Edge of Sanity.) I'm also basing this on consistency of quality (the reason Entombed isn't higher) and how influential I feel each band was (why Edge of Sanity is so high.) Now, I will sit back and prepare for the impending storm of "you're wrong" comments that I'm sure will come. |
