| 99 problems (21/7/18)
periodic update number i lost count ("this list is more like a stream-of-consciousness rambling episode than an actual list") | 1 | | Air France No Way Down
an empty bliss beyond the shoreline
i'm not prepared for the storm of the next few months so i'll sit here drinking instant coffee and biting my nails until i'm swept into the eye. full time study, part time work, two time band member, all time idiot | 2 | | The American Analog Set Promise of Love
bedhead roused from sleep by an incessant bleating alarm clock oh my GOD shut up
this is patient but it has the same predisposition for melody as something by pinback and it's perfect for when a late night quietly transitions into an early morning. i love the bookends. | 3 | | Amy Beach Gaelic Symphony, Op. 32.
american irish folk infused classical thanks to doctuses and his history book brain
urgent, sweeping, and composed as though it has something to prove. idk classical still isn't my forte but i do know dynamics when i hear them :~) | 4 | | Citizen As You Please
no mom emo was just a phase we're emotionally matured now
these are sad anthems and i'm here for them. i love how in the middle of it all ends, like its overwhelmed by it's own themes and thusly falls apart, exhausted. the rest of the record does well to stay together amidst all the confusion it lashes out against. | 5 | | Down I Go Tyrant
two-faced hardcore
title appropriate; album intimidating yet insanely charismatic and so it has one/won over me. these songs are like the inverse, the underbellies, of national anthems. good hardcore rearing its ugly head | 6 | | Laurel Halo Raw Silk Uncut Wood
world's most difficult to parse autobiography
i've also been listening to quarantine a lot. i reckon laurel makes these songs by coming up with the catchiest hook imaginable and then fucking with it until it's near impossible to find an entry point. but that makes it all the more rewarding when you do. maybe not the case with raw silk though!! this one is less puzzling; feels like a moment of clarity in a particularly abstruse discography, with laurel letting the progressions play out naturally instead of cutting and pasting them into weird formations. held up against the likes of quarantine and dust, we take a deep breath with her. | 7 | | Bambara Shadow on Everything
post punk noise concoction a la a moodier, more jagged iteration of post war glamour girls
this is pretty good. why isn't waterdeep in the sput database???? i found their album "sink or swim" the other day and it's some of the best 90s indie rock i've ever heard. seriously i'm not yankin your chain nor am i pullin your leg nor am i [other aphorism], legend of vertigo makes me feel like the protagonist of a children's picture book and i'm full of colour and vigour. i am so bitter but i have flashes of joie de vivre (is that how the fuck you spell it? my brain is egg, like a scrambled. sorry) | 8 | | Bing and Ruth No Home of the Mind
ambien (have i made this joke before? probably)
again, good for getting me to sleep, but only because the way it floats by fills my head with dreams. every time i wake up it's like a happy hangover. what if you could save your dreams and categorise them like an instagram story highlight? i need to give myself a break. i need to stop being such a superficial millennial | 9 | | Hum Downward Is Heavenward
big CHUNKY post something 90s rock with BALLS ha ha WALL of SOUND but peaceful somehow
