15 under 15
As the title implies, 15 albums with 15 or less ratings that I think are well worth your time. Also with samples. |
1 | | Scythelord Toxic Minds
Death/Thrash metal - I'm not that into metal as some others here, but I can't help but love this album. They're supposed to be releasing more music soon if evident from teasers, and I can't wait.

2 | | Polkadot Stingray 全知全能
Alternative rock/Power pop - Perhaps one of my favorite newer Japanese rock bands. I'll always plug these guys whenever I have the chance. Please check their videos, they're great. They released a new album this year, so check that too. A very fun band.

3 | | Bop Alloy Substantial and Marcus D are Bop Alloy
Hip hop/Jazz rap - If you like Nujabes or Substantial's features on Nujabes' songs, you should get this. There's also appearances from Cise Starr as well, who also featured on some Nujabes songs. So long story short, if you like Nujabes, you'll like this.

4 | | Fat Jon The Ample Soul Physician Afterthought
Instrumental hip hop - As a member of Five Deez (who I wish I could add here but Koolmotor has 18 ratings rip) and another well-known Nujabes collaborator (he helped make the Samurai Champloo soundtrack), how Fat Jon has little love here is a real crime.

5 | | DJ Food Kaleidoscope
Breakbeat/Downtempo - Fans of Amon Tobin and other Ninja Tune artists should check this out. Perhaps more well-known in those circles, but lesser known here.

6 | | Pizzicato Five Happy End of the World
Shibuya-kei - Happy vibes all around.

7 | | Michael Stearns Planetary Unfolding
Ambient - One of the best examples of spacey ambient music. Listen to it and take a trip into the cosmos.
Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uC5lVF3oWM |
8 | | DJ Krush & Toshinori Kondo Ki-Oku
Instrumental hip hop - Krush's music is usually hit or miss with me, but this is probably one of the greatest things he's done. Krush lays down his classic style of beats while Kondo helps him out with his trumpet.

9 | | Hexstatic Master-View
Breakbeat - More Ninja Tune goodness for you.

10 | | Eno, Moebius and Roedelius After the Heat
Ambient - Eno teams up with Cluster once more and produces another great ambient album just as good as the previous Cluster and Eno album.

11 | | Jonn Serrie And the Stars Go with You
Ambient - The title rings true with this one. The stars might as well be going with you when you listen to this.
Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyi9EzlFpFQ |
12 | | Kenmochi Hidefumi Falliccia
Instrumental hip hop/Downtempo - Hip hop beats combined with acoustic guitar licks. It's on Hydeout and Nujabes helped produce it, so it's worth a look at least.
Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ywt-uNINIHc |
13 | | Remember ルートバックホーム
Ambient - Ambient with vaporwave aesthetics, very similar to 2814, though unfortunately hasn't gotten as much love, which is a shame.
Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN6i3W07ohk |
14 | | Blazo Colors of Jazz 2
Instrumental hip hop - Instrumental hip hop with a color motif (every track is named after different colors, apparently as a way to fit the mood of said colors).
Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0GOyrvDMkA |
15 | | Nitsua Dayscape
Instrumental hip hop - Used to be signed to Nujabes' Hydeout Productions before making his own label. Also has a guest appearance by Shing02, which is always welcomed.
