Vidya Gaem Jams
Just an assortment of some of my favorite video game soundtracks. |
1 | | Koji Kondo Super Mario 64 Original Soundtrack
If we're going to do this list, we might as well get some of these out of the way. Dire Dire Docks still remains one of my favorite video game songs ever to this day. |
2 | | Koji Kondo The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time OST
Another classic pick. Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Wind Waker all have top notch soundtracks. It's no secret Koji Kondo is by far one of the best musicians in video game's history. |
3 | | Nobuo Uematsu Final Fantasy VII: Original Soundtrack
Still going through the classics. Nobuo is another giant in the history of video game music. Whichever Final Fantasy soundtrack is your favorite, you can certainly agree that Final Fantasy has some of the greatest. |
4 | | Shoji Meguro Persona 3 Original Soundtrack
Alright, alright, time to step out of the classics for a second. While not gaining the same kind of acclaim as Koji Kondo, Nobuo Uematsu, etc., I'd argue that Shoji Meguro deserves just as much. I could go on day and night about how much I love the Persona soundtracks. |
5 | | Michiru Yamane Castlevania: Symphony of the Night OST
Castlevania has always had great music, but this is the highlight of the series imo. Dracula's Castle, Nocturne, Marble Gallery and Crystal Teardrops make this perhaps the series' shining moment. And those are just my favorite tracks. |
6 | | David Wise DK Jamz: Original Donkey Kong Country ST
Okay, I'm just going to say this right now: I've never been a big fan of the Donkey Kong games. I liked them, but they never really stood out to me that much personally. But I'd be foolish if I didn't put this here just for the music alone. Along with Dire Dire Docks from Mario 64, Aquatic Ambiance shows my love for water level music while not really favoring water levels themselves. |
7 | | Soundtrack (Video Game) Metroid Prime and Fusion
This is a really Nintendo-heavy list, huh? Although I'd feel bad if I left out this one. I'll just leave this here for the Metroid series in general. Excellent atmosphere that fits extremely well with the games they go along with. |
8 | | Taro Bando F-Zero X OST
Okay, one more Nintendo soundtrack before we take a break. How many Nintendo soundtracks have you heard that have double bass drumming? And on the 64 no less. It's just a shame we'll probably never see a F-Zero game again. |
9 | | Daisuke Ishiwatari Guilty Gear XX Original Soundtrack
Speaking of double bass drumming, this game is metal as fuck. Guilty Gear is probably my favorite fighting game franchise, and I can't think of anything better to fit a fighting game than metal music. Sure, the electronic sounds in Street Fighter are good and all, but still. Also please play Guilty Gear. |
10 | | Soundtrack (Video Game) Tekken 3 Playstation Soundtrack 002
While we're on the subject of fighting games, Tekken is another one I've come to enjoy. Jin Kazama's theme is a classic, and a lot of other themes are good here too, like Forest's, Paul's and Bryan's (though that last one might be a little biased concerning I'm a filthy Bryan main). |
11 | | Soundtrack (Video Game) Okami Original Soundtrack
Looks like we're going from Nintendo to Sony with these entries. I'm a sucker for traditional Japanese music, so Okami's soundtrack was a no-brainer for me to enjoy. If you somehow missed out on this PS2 gem, if you have a PS4 or a Switch you need to get the HD version of this game. |
12 | | Yu Miyake Katamari Fortissimo Damacy
It's impossible to not be happy while listening to this. I'm also going to include We Love Katamari's soundtrack here as it was the first Katamari I played and I have a little bit more of an attachment to it, even if the first one is better. This one's going to get a remaster for the Switch in December, so if you also missed out on this one, be on the lookout for it. |
13 | | Stewart Copeland Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!
Still chugging on the Sony train. Along with Crash and of course Mario, Spyro was one of my first forays into the world of video games, so I have a bit of a fondness for it. All three Spyro PS1 soundtracks are pure sentimental goodness. |
14 | | Yasunori Mitsuda Chrono Trigger Original Sound Version
Taking a break from Sony to list this here. It's Chrono Trigger. That's all I need to say. |
15 | | Junichi Masuda Pokemon Gold & Silver OST
Best generation of Pokemon. Pokemon Crystal started it all for me, and I've stuck with it ever since, even if it seems I'm not as into Pokemon as I used to be. |
16 | | Jun Ishikawa and Hirokazu Ando Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards OST
The Kirby series as a whole has a lot of great soundtracks that I couldn't really pick one. Just see this as an entry for the majority of them. I will say I have a fondness for Kirby Air Ride's soundtrack, though. |
