Deweekly: March 1st to March 7th
We're catching up, we're catching up... After a disastrous health week, I might be even be able to hear 10 new albums this week! Will listen some more for those of you who lurk here looking for some more. |
1 | | Suldusk Anthesis
This was the clear priority this week. I was very much looking forward to see how her solo project had grown into a full fledged band now and it didn't disappoint. The folk got folkier, the black metal got more well... more metal even. Definitely check it out if you're into Myrkur, Sylvaine, Hulder etc. |
2 | | Bruce Dickinson The Mandrake Project
Iron Maiden being my favorite band of all time should be enough reason to give the man at least a chance. And I did, and it wasn't not good. I'll add: the more I listened to it, the more I felt I should stop listening before I start hating Maiden too. |
3 | | Caravan Palace Gangbusters Melody Club
Jammed it this morning. First half was string. It was catchy, fun, original, more or less what i expected but it takes a plunge on the second half, like the joke gets old really soon. |
4 | | Haunt (USA-CA) Dreamers
I'll always have time for a new Haunt. (Put it on Spoti already, you cowards). |
5 | | Pissed Jeans Half Divorced
Jammed half of this, fun album, someone's sound off describes it perfectly. Good if the mood is there. |
6 | | Mannequin Pussy I Got Heaven
Hell of an album. It mixes hardcore with noise rock and shoegaze like no one. Easy top 5 of the week. |
7 | | Fathomless Ritual Hymns For The Lesser Gods
Transcending Obscurity material. I also got on this and it was alright, the music was solid, interesting even, but the vocals were terrible. Just low effort growls that provide nothing to the mix. |
8 | | Messiah Christos Hypercubus
Well it seems the comeback happened four years ago, but I do remember these guys from 1991's Choir of Horrors and for having amazing hair in some Metal Hammer magazine of the time. Anyway all was going fine until hit a song called Speed Sucker Romance that repeats the title endlessly and now I'm done with this. |
9 | | The Narcotix Dying
This is a pretty sweet find. Alt folk with progressive leanings performed by two West African young ladies living in Brooklyn. After Suldusk my second favorite album this week so far. |
10 | | Sarasara Elixir
I remember listening to Amor Fait all the way back in 2017 and thinking "wow she really sounds like Bjork". Seven years later and she's releasing her third album on Bjork's label. Small world. Although now that I'm listening to it, she doesn't sound like Bjork at all. |
11 | | Mildlife Chorus
Haven't heard it yet but sounds interesting to say the least. Gimme synths. |
12 | | Devastator (UK) Conjurers of Cruelty
This sounds promising. Black'n'roll or death'n'roll or smth on that vein with great production. I may give this one priority today. |
13 | | Arms and Sleepers What Tomorrow Brings
I dig some of their past material so mandatory check. Electronic, experimental... idk. |
14 | | Everything Everything Mountainhead
First everyone hated this and now everyone says it's great. Make up your mind people. Anyway I was planning to jam. |
15 | | Svart Lotus Som et vondt år
So this is in Norwegian and mastered super low, but look at that cover. I couldn't resist. Lo-fm, Norwegian i think, pretty cool stuff. |
16 | | Abby Sage The Rot
Pop. Very catchy and flows well although I haven't heard it in full. |
17 | | Einvigi Monokroma
I feel I should give more time to this one. Anyone heard it? |
18 | | Another Sky Beach Day
Really liked their debut so I will most likely make space for this one at some point. The singer's voice is quite special. |
19 | | Etoile Filante Mare Tranquillitatis
I'm gonna take a guess and say these guys are french and they do black metal. |
20 | | Cloud People Simulacra
Another album sold by the cover. I think it's some kind os instrumental synth wave? Not sure. |
21 | | Uranium Club Infants Under The Bulb
I have no idea what this, all I know is that someone rec'd it and it's post punk so it should be good. |
22 | | Angmodnes Rot of the Soul
Second album of this funeral doom duo from the Netherlands. |
23 | | De Mar Y Rio Bailen y Gocen
Now here's a curveball. Not that I'm usually attracted to Afrocuban music or whatever this is, but it's a nice cleanser. |
24 | | Profane Burial My Plateau
For some reason I find the title pretty funny. Like the bm version of My Sharona or smth idk. Anyway, black metal from Norway. Norwegians are on fire this week. |
25 | | Mourn (SPA) The Avoider
Not the best that Spain has to offer, but a couple of albums ago I dug them so it might be worth checking... some day. |
