No Expletives! A Rec Competition

Been a bit since I did one of these, so thought I'd try this out. Each round I'll pick a genre and will take one song rec. The song cannot contain any profanity, curses, swears etc...

When This Is Over

The first Genre is Hip-Hop. The song can't be from an album I have rated and must be under 6 minutes.

So Far
Really catchy beat and the verses here were impressive. My only detractor here was the chorus which was seriously lacking any punch or memorability. Otherwise pretty solid actually 3.8/5
3Rakim
The 18th Letter

CompostCompote
The 18th Letter
Rakim can really spit bars and has a clear knack for songwriting and the beat was smooth as can be here. I could totally see just sitting back and bobbing to this one. 4.2/5

Run
This had a spacey atmosphere which paired well with the lyrical framework of the track. Everything was purposeful and this had a really killer hook to it. 4.4/5

Sad Clown Bad Summer 9

Papa Universe
Sunshine
A real "pick me up" rap track that does well to motivate and enlighten and this genuinely did just what it set it out to do and I loved that the piano was the main construct of this track. 4.5/5

Never Better

SCREAM!
Low Light Low Life
Another rap track with a really hiller hook and some stellar verses. Loved the horns and the instrumentals here as well. 4.4/5

Therapy Session
The idea here was nice but the outro came off real cheesy and in general some of the cheese here didn't work in this track's favor. I thought it would be much more powerful just ending the track with the haunting vibe that was the theme of this track. The trills of the chiming xylophone and choral work were perfect but some of the lyrics and rap deliveries just didn't own up to the atmosphere that was set up for them. This was a mixed bag nevertheless. 3.4/5

Music, Magic, Myth

DungeonBoy
Secret Wars pt 1
Deliveries were great here and songwriting are fine but I'm not that big of comic book guy or anything so this didn't do a heck of a lot for me personally, those who do will love this. 3.3/5
9R. Kelly
12 Play

Drifter
Summer Bunnies
I'll be honest with you drift this was just not my thing at all. I didn't care for the theme of the song and the bass beats here sounded dated but not in a nostalgic way. Rap deliveries were good and no doubt R. Kelly can sing but this is just not my gig. 2.8/5

True Natural
Really enjoyed the atmosphere, songwriting and deliveries here. Really no complaints to speak of honestly. 4.6/5

If I Had A Day to Live
Oh myyyy this jazzy and soulful rap classic really really hit home on seriously every single front. 5/5

Brothers Gonna Work it Out
This was also a really sick rap classic but just ran a little too long for my liking. 4.7/5

Avagantamos
Earth People
Is this what all of Dr. Octagon sounds like? I mean no doubt this dude can write really well but I just wasn't a fan of his voice and the beats came off totally bland here. 2.5/5

Wake Up
Really cool atmosphere and wacky as hell. Plus the deliveries were OFF THE WALL. 4.8/5

He Say She Say
Just some chill rap with a bit of soul to it. No complaints but not blown away. 3.7/5

KingDweedle
Asylum (Permanent Underclass)
A politically charged and unhinged rap track with incredibly jarring soundscapes that carry a really tormented vibe. This track, just as the cover of this album and track title suggests, will make you feel trapped like in an insane asylum. 4.6/5
17Death Grips
The Powers That B

Onionbubs
Say Hey Kid
Wacky and wobbly as is per usual for Death Grips. The lyrics here were a bit repetitive at parts and just a bit too odd to me at times. However, it was still pretty enjoyable. 3.9/5
18Hail Mary Mallon
Bestiary

LeftyMcRighty
Krill
I hadn't heard this Aesop project and this didn't disappoint. As usual you can expect loaded bars, sweet instrumentals and clever songwriting with some great production. 4.4/5
