top 10 weezer songs!!

doo-waa
1Weezer
Falling For You

The lone optimistic track of Pinkerton, this song is about Rivers being in denial that things are actually going well. After 8 tracks of total misery and angst, he is in awe of his situation. The lyrics are just self-deprecating enough to be endearing - "What could you possibly see in little ol 3 chord me?" Aside from starring all of the traits that make weezer great - a beautiful vocal melody, memorable lyrics, and a great guitar sound - the song vaults itself into masterpiece territory with its solo and bridge. The former is pure greatness, a solo you can sing along to with a key change so smooth you might not even notice it. Then, a moment of clarity - "Holy sweet goddamn, you left your cello in the basement..." before crashing back to reality "I can't believe how bad I suck, it's true..." then barrelling into the final chorus. This song perfectly encapsulates what's so great about weezer.

If you are reading this as a casual fan, listen to this in the context of the Pinkerton album
2Across The Sea

This track might not feature the stunning instrumentation of #1, but the lyrics make up for it. The centerpiece of Pinkerton, it follows Rivers as he mopes over a fan letter and lamenting that she's so far away and he's so alone. It's shockingly confessional, in a "did he really just say that?" kind of way. A song like this could never fit onto any other weezer album. Although it's not up to par with Falling For You, this song still features a cool solo and a bridge that goes from whisper quiet to full on emo rage mode. I love the piano that kicks off the track as well as follows the first verse and the "It's all your fault" bit. It's a little sweet, a little creepy, a little sad, a little crazy, a little awesome, just listen to it.

"As if I could live on words and dreams and a million screams, oh how I need a hand in mine to feel!"
3Only In Dreams

The longest weezer track, clocking in at a whopping 8 minutes, is no filler. As the closer to the band's first album, the song starts off as a pretty standard, if a little more grand than the others, before breaking down and building back up in a lyricless journey that can only be described as "epic." The band has tried tracks like this other times, like 2005's "Haunt You Every Day" or 2008's "The Angel And The One" but none come close to the glory of OiD. The reason this one is lower than the others is that moreso than Falling For You or Across The Sea this track must be heard in context - it's the end of a journey. As far as I'm concerned, though, all three are masterpieces.
4L.A. Girlz

After the middling decade of the 2000's during which the band's output ranged from "good" to "god-awful" the band made a glorious comeback with the 1-2 punch of 2014's Everything Will Be Alright In The End and 2016's The White Album. Although these albums fail to reach the levels of Blue or Pinkerton and certainly have their weak spots, one gem shines out like a beacon of light - LA Girlz. Silly name be damned, this track is on par with the classics. Featuring a singalong chorus and a sick 2-guitar solo to knock your socks off, the loud to quiet and back again bridge is just the icing on the cake. More than anything else this song serves as an indicator that Rivers has still got it, and a reward to those who stuck out through the Hurlitude era.
5Susanne

Although this Blue b-side never made it onto an album (not counting the deluxe version of Blue) it's claim to fame was that it's the credits song to the movie Mallrats. Even out of that context, this song is beautiful. This song is like a Beach Boys classic with the crunchy guitars of Weezer. At a brisk 2:47, the song doesn't waste your time. Every second is packed with beautiful vocal harmonies, sugary sweet lyrics, and satisfying singalong melodies. I love how the synth comes into the solo, it gets me every time! I don't really have much to say about this track except that I'm in love with it. If this song was a woman, I'd marry it. Wait a second...
6Cleopatra

The gem on EWBAITE, the quiet verses and first chorus stand out on an otherwise pretty in your face album. Featuring some great guitar work and a catchy melody, the track might not blow you away but you'll leave feeling satisfied. Some people don't like the way he sings the chorus - "Cleo-patch-er-uh" - but I don't mind it. What does bother me, though, is that silly counting section that opens the solo and closes the track. It just feels silly to me, and it's not even an important part of the song, you could just rip it out and it'd still be a great song. Still, a modern weezer classic, which is hard to come by.
7Say It Ain't So

This is perhaps the most well known weezer track behind Island In The Sun, and for good reason. It's got quiet verses that are broken by a wonderfully heavy chorus, before receding back into the lower range. After the second chorus, though, it breaks loose, with a great buildup into an awesome solo that leads beautifully into the final chorus - simply epic. A favorite of both casual and hardcore fans alike, this song deserves it's place in the weezer pantheon. For lovers of this song, take a listen to the early demo for this song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oh9_qFS3RRs) which features a neat extended solo.
8The British Are Coming

There's not much to say about this one. It's about the American revolution, with not much nuance or spice added to that concept. It's just a sweet song, with a singalong chorus and rocking solo that will leave you feeling nice.
9Pig

2008's Red Album is a tragedy, with it's best songs relegated to deluxe bonus tracks and drek like Everybody Get Dangerous clogging up the actual album. One of those aforementioned songs is Pig, a mostly acoustic track which follows the life of a pig (duh) from birth to inevitable slaughter. The song is mostly pretty low-key, with everything going crazy at the end, or the "death." Of course, it's just an allegory for the fleetingness of man's time on Earth. Although it has some of the facepalm worthy lyrics that come along with most tracks from this era (that whiplash bit... qq) but that falsetto will still tug at your heartstrings, and the ending might too.
10O Girlfriend

This is a personal favorite and a total indulgence for me, so just bear with me. I love the Green Album, I think it's just perfect power pop. Unfortunately it lacks the lyrics and variety that makes other weezer albums superior, with completely nonpersonal and generic lyrics and cookiecutter songs. I mean, every single solo just follows the vocal melody, for God's sakes. But, "O Girlfriend" is a gem in the otherwise pretty samey B-side to this album. The personal lyrics and melancholy melody hints that underneath all the "Crab" and "Glorious Day," "Across The Sea" is still buried under there somewhere, clawing to escape. Still, it is wrapped in the perfect pop trappings of the rest of the album, and the result is something unique and special.
