Carly Rae Jepsen Ranked

The modern day queen of pop! That's right Madonna, you wrinkled hag, time to pass the torch to someone else. Been wanting to do this list for a while since The Loneliest Time came out.
7Carly Rae Jepsen
Kiss

This came out when I was in middle school and I had an unbridled hatred for it mostly because of Call Me Maybe. And yes, that song is still annoying to an extent, but the album isn't trash or anything. It's typical 2010's teen bubblegum pop. Nothing to write home about, but pretty harmless all things considered.

HIGHLIGHTS: Curiosity, Good Time (feat. Owl City)

FINAL SCORE: 2.7 out of 5
6Carly Rae Jepsen
Tug of War

This is a cute lil indie pop album. Definitely a solid debut from an artist who would go on to do bigger and better things.

HIGHLIGHTS: Bucket, Money and the Ego

FINAL SCORE: 3.3 out of 5

Emotion: Side B

This compilation had two things going against it: It was the follow up to one of the best mainstream pop albums ever made, and it's a collection of B-sides. It was never going to live up to the greatness of Emotion, but they're B-sides, so you can't fault her too much for that. Still some catchy as hell songs on here though.

HIGHLIGHTS: Higher, The One, Body Language

FINAL SCORE: 3.5 out of 5
4Carly Rae Jepsen
Dedicated Side B

See previous entry - though the bar for Dedicated Side B to clear wasn't nearly as high. This would probably have a higher rating if there weren't two variations of the same song back-to-back so early on, but again, these are B-sides. Hard to be overly critical of these in the first place - especially when there's still high quality stuff here.

HIGHLIGHTS: Fake Mona Lisa, Now I Don't Hate California After All, This Love Isn't Crazy

FINAL SCORE: 3.8 out of 5
3Carly Rae Jepsen
The Loneliest Time

If this album had a little more focus it would probably stand toe-to-toe with Emotion. As great as TLT is, too many songs end too soon (let that be a testament to the songwriting quality) and the tone is a bit all over the place. Still, Carly proved to me with this album that she can do no wrong.

HIGHLIGHTS: Joshua Tree, Beach House, Go Find Yourself Or Whatever, The Loneliest Time (feat. Rufus Wainwright)

FINAL SCORE: 3.8 out of 5

Dedicated

Creating a new studio album to follow up Emotion couldn't have been an easy task, but Carly hit it out of the park. It may not have the same peaks as Emotion, but Dedicated delivers a line-up of solid 4-star bangers (thanks Sowing for that analogy) without any real lowpoints.

HIGHLIGHTS: Now That I Found You, Want You In My Room, Too Much, Real Love, Party For One

FINAL SCORE: 4 out of 5

Emotion

I wish I had the ability to articulate just how much I love this album. It hits a somewhat personal chord for me too, because this album helped me rediscover my love of pop music (when done right) after years of feeling like pop had gone stale. Some may think the 80's influences are a bit pandering, but I find them to be a perfect compliment to Carly's style. I know Emotion has a LOT of hype on this site, but I think it's all deserved. In my opinion, Emotion is one of the greatest pop albums ever made.

HIGHLIGHTS: Run Away With Me, Emotion, Boy Problems, Your Type, LA Hallucinations, Warm Blood, Black Heart, Love Again

FINAL SCORE: 5 out of 5
