07.25.19 | thank you for this |
deathofasalesman
07.25.19 | This is an amazing list, mostly because I agree with just about every one. #1 is impossibly good. I just saw your other lists and you have a ton of classics covered haha. In that case, I recommend:
- Hard 2 Obtain - Ism & Blues
- KMD - Black Bastards
- Redman - Dare Iz a Darkside
- KA - Honor Killed the Samurai
- Willie the Kid & Bronze Nazareth - The Living Daylights
- Deep Puddle Dynamics - The Taste of Rain...
- Brand Nubian - One for All
- Grand Puba - 2000
- Koopsta Knicca - Da Devil's Playground
- The Dynospectrum - The Dynospectrum
- Skyzoo - The Great Debater
- Heltah Skeltah - Nocturnal
- Guilty Simpson - Ode to the Ghetto
- Tommy Wright III - On the Run |

07.25.19 | can't have a list with all of the classics and not have Three 6 listed somewhere, smh |
StrikeOfTheBeast
07.25.19 | Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?
*looks around and realizes Eminem is nowhere to be found
We're gonna have a problem here. |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | JustJoe. no problem and I hope this helps. |
JustJoe.
07.25.19 | everyone check his other lists before clamoring for missing inclusions |
StrikeOfTheBeast
07.25.19 | still y no marshal fren |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | deathofasalesman Thanks, glad you liked the list and my other ones, so much great Hip Hop and yes Violent By Design is insane. Out of the ones you mentioned I haven't heard Tommy Wright III - On the Run, Skyzoo - The Great Debater, Grand Puba - 2000, Willie the Kid & Bronze Nazareth - The Living Daylights or Hard 2 Obtain - Ism & Blues but literally love all the others mentioned. I'll look into the others you mentioned, thanks for the recommendations, always something new to check out! |
StrikeOfTheBeast
07.25.19 | its prolly cus hes white u racist :P |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | StrikeOfTheBeast The Marshall Mathers LP is in my top 100, and The Slim Shady lP is in Part 4 of my great Hip Hop albums list. It's actually really hard to make a top 50 list but I did it mainly to find new recommendations and to hopefully introduce some albums to people. It's also a list that isn't as generic as a lot of other hip hop lists which ignore so much of the great Underground Hip Hop. |
StrikeOfTheBeast
07.25.19 | I figured. Just yankin' your chain God. :P |
JustJoe.

GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | StrikeOfTheBeast Haha fair enough |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Shit I forgot about R.A.P Music, poor Arrested Development will have to be replaced haha, love 3 Years, 5 Months And 2 Days... though |
ian b
07.25.19 | what do you think about three 6 though? i tried checking your other lists, but didn't find anything. i see you rated one of their tapes a 4.5, but for me personally, i can’t mention 90's rap/hip-hop without talking about three 6 mafia and Mystic Stylez |
Uzumaki
07.25.19 | commenting to skim through at a later date... |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | ianbisntdeadyet I've heard and love Mystic Stylez and Underground Vol. 1: 1991-1994, a completely unique sound and it's crazy how underrated Dj Paul is and there influence on a countless amount of hip hop artists after them is very noticeable. But this list is of what truly blew me away the most and as great as those two Three 6 projects are they aren't quite on the same level as these for me, Mystic Stylez is in my part lll and Underground Classics is in my part llll, they both are due for another spin and I need to hear more of there stuff as well though for sure. |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | JustJoe. Yea I've heard The Darkest Cloud, it's great and Vakill is dope and underrated as hell, you just reminded me to get on to Amour Of God which I've heard is his best. |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Uzumaki Hope you like the list |
JustJoe.
07.25.19 | happy to help |
samwise2000
07.25.19 | Fantastic list |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Thanks samwise2000, glad you liked it, narrowing it down to 50 was pretty hard but I think there's a good selection of different styles and sounds here. |
ian b
07.25.19 | nah you're good my bad, i definitely respect that, apparently Ctrl+F failed me hahah. but either way i'm glad you dig, this is still a great list regardless, even if there aren't too many recent releases. definitely need to check out 1. also nice username, probably one that some would kill for nowadays hahah |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | ianbisntdeadyet Yea Three Six are great and I've only really heard a little bit of the Memphis scene and admire the completely different sound for sure. Glad you like the list, yea a lot of recent releases start to show up later on in my lists, sometime classics are just to good I guess lol. Yea I made this account a while ago, was so surprised I didn't have to add a number to it haha. Oh and definitely check #1, I was addicted to that album for a long time, some of the subject matter could be off putting to some but it's likely the most well produced Hip Hop album ever, literally mind blowing shit and the emceeing is great. |
Typhoon24
07.25.19 | you got pretty much most of em, but the big four are missing. no big daddy kane, rakim, kool g rap or krs-one. those are necessary |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Typhoon24 I almost put Paid In Full there but I was listening to it not to long ago for the first time in a while and it's definitely been massively bettered whilst still being a masterpiece and Top 100 material. Long Live The Kane is in my top 200 as well as By All Means Necessary, KRS-One and Return Of The Boom Bap for KRS, Follow The leader for Rakim, Wanted Dead Or Alive and Live and Let Die for G Rap, also G Raps underrated Roots of evil is actually in my Top 100, you'll find a lot of material from the big four show up in my other lists. People can be as essential and legendary as they are but it doesn't mean they automatically have to have albums in the top 50. The top 50 here is of the most well put together Hip Hop albums I could think of and I quite clearly am a fan of the big 4. |
Typhoon24
07.25.19 | i said that because most of the artists here were directly influenced by at least one of em. just came as a surprise not to see one. still a great list
and yeah roots of evil is criminally underrated even though its ranked highly here on sputnik |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Yea pretty much everyone here has influenced by them, I can see where your coming from. Yea Roots Of Evil is pretty popular here, but I feel like a lot of Hip Hop heads have skipped it, as awesome as 4,5,6 is Roots Of Evil is so much better as a solo album, if anything from the big 4 was to make it here Paid in Full and Roots Of Evil would have been the most likely. |
Drifter
07.25.19 | No g shit at all?????
Lame!
Ridin' Dirty counts I guess but come onnnnn this is coastist |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Drifter The black Frank White ain't G?, a good amount of West Coast is here by the way, much more to the West then Gangsta rap |
Drifter
07.25.19 | Ok, ok. West coast g shit.
I know it's got more to it im just obsessed with it lol. I know you've got plenty in your other parts (at least iirc) so it's good but give a dogg a bone (hehe) |
Typhoon24
07.25.19 | it's funny cause i spent most of today listening to dub c, ice t, snoop and the chronic. but once i saw all those north east white rappers high on the list i was like hmmm it might be a geographical thing |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Drifter Death Certificate would probably be #51 that's how close that one was, I feel like The Chronic has a final track that feels randomly placed and Straight Outta Compton has a terrible last track. Really just little things like that stopped those albums from making it, Doggystyle is pretty much perfect though. Gangsta Rap is great but not the best hip hop has to offer, it's understandable to love it though. |
Typhoon24
07.25.19 | still tho it's great to see cunninlynguists above all else, i always run into their shows when i have free time...really good live |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Typhoon24 haha whatever cuz, for real though you actually think Ice-T has a chance of making the list?, Original Gangsta is great but more like Top 300. |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Typhoon24 Yea man Cunninlynguists are amazing, KNO is one of the best producers. I haven't seen them live would love to, I like in New Zealand though so it's pretty unlikely they'll come here but you never know I guess. |
Drifter
07.25.19 | Yeah I'm from Cali so I love g funk above everything else. I'm sure most of the albums here that I haven't heard are amazing but I go through alt rap really slowly and it's hard for me to get into old east coast records that aren't from like 96-05 lol |
Drifter
07.25.19 | You should check out Windmills - Broken Record. It's the album that converted me from a hip hop hater to fan. Still one of my favorite albums too, the beats are god tier |
Typhoon24
07.25.19 | Ice T influenced west coast gangsta rap and hell yeah one of his albums (probably the 89 or 91) would definitely make my list. But Everyone’s got their tastes, narrowing it down to 50 would be hard. Like Sadat X was hilarious in an interview where he wasn’t on a list of the top 150 emcees and they had vanilla ice and not him |
Drifter
07.25.19 | I might make my own version of this list sometime, probably when school starts back up. It'll be like a complete opposite version of this lol. Expect a lot of Snoop Dogg, 2Pac and Daz Dillinger lol |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Drifter Yea you can tell I'm very much into alt-rap and old school east coast hip hop haha, I'll give you that. I've never even heard of Windmills - Broken Record so thanks for the recommendation. |
Drifter
07.25.19 | Yeah I think it's right up your alley. Moody alt rap with some jazzy elements. Perfect record |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Typhoon24 Yea Ice-T's influence is very important but influence and best are definitely two different things but yea of course if he would make your list then to each his own. Haha oh wow Vanilla Ice instead of Sadat X, I wouldn't even put Ice in the top 500 lol. |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Drifter Yea I'd be interested in the list, when I was in my teens I was obsessed with Gangsta Rap too lol. Yea your description of the album makes it seem right up my alley. |
naughtcturnal
07.25.19 | So much good shit!!!! I love 12 soooo much |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | naughtcturnal OB4CL is amazing! |

GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | naughtcturnal Yea my fav as well, I understand when people mainly choose liquid Swords though |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Avagantamos I really dig the Memphis rap I've heard, need to hear more though. Some Three 6 Mafia, Koopsta Knicca and 8Ball and MJG show up in some of my other lists though.
|
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Cheers naughtcturnal |
Typhoon24
07.25.19 | check N.O.D. - NOD (it's a 30 min tape on youtube that's insanely good)
also
Dirty - Da Pimp and da Gangsta |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Typhoon24 just listened to the N.O.D. album, really liked it a lot. Tommy Wright lll is a producer that I'm new to and he goes hard, very unique. Awesome lyrics as well, great flows, I'm looking forward to giving it another spin, will get on to that Dirty soon and am gonna check some of Tommys solo material |
Typhoon24
07.25.19 | Yeah that whole thing was insanely good, especially fuck the world. Dirty is good because it’s a little different from the others in Memphis and they rap fast. Thanks for checking NOD out |
Typhoon24
07.25.19 | Oh and dirty are from alabama but it took me a while to realize that haha |
BigHans
07.25.19 | 16 is 1 |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Typhoon24 yea I loved the whole things, thanks for letting me know about it. Haha na that's a good thing I don't know to many rappers from alabama. |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | BigHans trust me I've always thought Ready To Die was arguably the greatest Hip Hop albums ever, probably one of the best albums overall. |
GodLovesUgly
07.25.19 | Kaiwaz Oh shit yea, as perfect as albums get and some people are still sleeping on it. |

GodLovesUgly
07.27.19 | Kaiwaz Yea glad you dug it after all this time, could be the definitive Southern Hip Hop album, glad you like the list!. Oh I've heard Uncontrolled Substance and like it a lot but it's not really material for this list IMO. |
GodLovesUgly
07.27.19 | Kaiwaz Thanks, they're both amazing and I'm especially liking the love for A Book Of Human Language, All Balls Don't Bounce is my shit as well. |
GodLovesUgly
