šŸŽ¬šŸŽ®JULY SOTD: Sputnik Picture SoundtrackšŸŽ®šŸŽ¬

Hey everyone! To compliment Noler's previous SOTD about underdogs, I'm here to present a different spin on that concept: overlooked/underrated soundtrack compositions! Any medium is eligible; movies, television, video games, you name it. Just as long as it's a soundtrack piece that you believe deserves more exposure and recognition, it works. Two things I need to mention before we start: 1. JUST ONE SONG FROM A SOUNDTRACK! This is still Song of the Day, not Album of the Day. 2. The track can be from a more famous or well-known soundtrack as long as the piece in question is one of its lesser-known tunes. So if you pick Star Wars for instance, don't pick Duel of the Fates or I'll punch you through my computer. Anyway, let's go!
1Soundtrack (Video Game)
Mega Man Battle Network 3 OST

Mega Man Battle Network 3: Tree of Life (Piano Arrangement) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xo4Goy96sk

Hidden at the end of Battle Network 3's soundtrack is one of the most beautiful piano pieces I've heard from any video game. This track is a rendition of the "Tree of Life" theme found in the hospital section of the game, but now it's stripped down to just a piano and gives off a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere. A tune like this is exactly why I made this SOTD: to fill the userbase and database with pieces that should be celebrated and recognized more.

Sonic Adventure 2: Multi-Dimensional Soundtrack

"Supporting Me" (added by ghostalgeist) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXeIRsqqFbA

"Sonic Adventure 2's "Supporting Me", holy shit the production and atmosphere on this creepy ass song is *unreal*, I've never heard anything quite like it."
3Matt Uelmen
Diablo II

"Tristram" (added by budgie) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XheJnmLAwhk

This one's honestly kinda close to disqualification because of how many views and comments it has on the Youtube link, but since a lot of people don't really talk about the pre-Diablo III games in the series much anymore, I decided to give it a pass. Plus, the song rules.
4Soundtrack (Video Game)
Cultures 3 Northland OST

"Untitled" (added by garas) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPmrpxCm-88

"I loved that little game, and thinking about how much I loved this soundtrack there is nothing shocking about why do I like dungeon synth as an adult."
5Austin Wintory
Journey Original Soundtrack

"Nascence" (added by dedex) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLfj3pAlrs4

"maybe the best video game experiences I've ever had"
6Yo La Tengo
They Shoot, We Score

"Leaving Home" (added by porcupinetheater) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5_opVdUBB4

"Quietly stunning piece from the equally sublime Kelly Reichardt movie Old Joy."
7Mychael Danna
The Sweet Hereafter

"Courage (Sam Dent Band Version) from the Sweet Hereafter - rearranged by Mychael Danna, vocals by Sarah Polley" (added by fogza) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bf_ZCYDpsYM

"Atom Egoyan's 'the Sweet Hereafter' is a bleak study on the transformative effect of grief. Set in a small, remote town in Canada, the music captures how ice and snow are such dominant features in the lives of the residents. The use of archaic instruments heightens the perception of the location being mountainous, timeless, and unchanged; the recurring theme of the Pied Piper and the death of the town's future is also ably captured. Danna and actor Sarah Polley worked on rearrangements and original songs for her character (an aspiring singer). These provide brief moments of warmth, but still with a sense that comfort is transitory. This reworking of the Tragically Hip song 'Courage' cleverly foreshadows the film's climax."
8Tangerine Dream
Firestarter OST

"Charly the Kid" (added by divaman) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72hgAwUZ_ZM

"Tangerine Dream is famous for their film soundtracks, and this is from one of my favorites. The piece represents the main character of the film, young Charlene McGee, who discovers a fearsome power inside of her as she grows closer to adolescence. The government wants to weaponize her power and turn her into a monster, but this song represents Charly's essential goodness."
9Yasunori Mitsuda
Chrono Trigger Original Sound Version

"Frog's Theme" as covered by GuitarWanker90 (added by DungeonBoy) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA13icbjAvw

"Chrono Trigger's soundtrack holds a very special place in my heart. It was the first time I was ever moved by a video game soundtrack when I first experienced it as a kid. It still remains one of the absolute best video game soundtracks of all time, and the numerous iterations of covers makes it near impossible to choose what to share from it. Frog's Theme was always my favorite."
10Soundtrack (Film)
The Neverending Story

"The Neverending Story theme" (added by SlothcoreSam) https://youtu.be/lHytjEj7B9g

"The theme song of the English version of the film was composed by Giorgio Moroder with lyrics by Keith Forsey, and performed by Christopher "Limahl" Hamill, once the lead singer of Kajagoogoo, and Beth Anderson."
11Soundtrack (Television)
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 2

"The Math of Love Triangles" (added by ArsMoriendi) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ck-UhvbCDAk

"It's a Marylin Monroe/Busby Berkeley parody similar to "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend"".
12Mikko Tarmia
Soma

"Alone" (added by Pangea) https://youtu.be/Pw6DCTm-yOU

"From the SOMA soundtrack. Love that game and this track always makes me feel emotional"
13Darren Korb
Hades: Original Soundtrack

"No Escape" (added by rifkadm) https://youtu.be/oksESAMg7WM

"Anyone play Hades? I loved the music about as much as I loved the game."
14Christopher Larkin
Hollow Knight

"City of Tears" (added by Scheumke) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1unm0LS10ao

"Such a hauntingly beautiful track for a underground city in the rain (yeah its raining underground, for reasons I won't spoil). It was the center of civilization but has since turned to ruins, with it's inhabitants going mad and not remembering their past lives. Instead of it being angry or vicious, it is just sad and melancholic and full of atmosphere. Goosebumps every time I hear it."
15Tindersticks
Les Salauds

"Put Your Love in Me" (added by Someone) https://youtu.be/Bo7i_pHEWNg

"A great Tindersticks song made exclusively for a very bad French movie I saw on a festival a long time ago a have forgotten entirely since."
16Laura Shigihara
Rakuen OST

"Welcome to the Forest" (added by protokute) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKAoSY5bhSw

"I'm torn between Stardew Valley title theme and a tune from Rakuen. But I guess I'll go with Rakuen since it is a less known game..."
17Nobuo Uematsu
Final Fantasy IX: Original Soundtrack

"You're Not Alone" (added by Trebor) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKAoSY5bhSw

"I had a religious experience the first time I heard this song as a wee lad
I made a separate save file just to listen to this song"
18Dennis Martin and Takao Miratsu
Legend of Dragoon Original Soundtrack

"If You Still Believe" (added by Storm in a Teacup) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLMQuYbh4q8

"Release: 1999
Composers: Dennis Martin, Takao Miratsu
Vocals: Elsa Raven"
19Keiichi Okabe
Nier Automata Original Soundtrack

"Wretched Weaponry" (added by JohnnyoftheWell) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfFsFF3uxcY

"Here's a goldstar from the Automata soundtrack for y'all (artist - Keiichi Okabe). Absolutely perfect vocal motifs fuck me I would kill to be able to write like that."
20Soundtrack (Video Game)
Resident Evil: Director's Cut

"Mansion Basement" (added by MyNameIsPencil) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJYvCHm3Ov4

"this is so not scary it becomes jarring enough to be freaky"
21Soundtrack (Video Game)
Pokemon Colosseum

"COLOSSEUM BATTLE ROUND 3" (added by nolerthebowler) https://youtu.be/4RFW3dRzg_c

"I remember boppin to this song (and so many others) from Colosseum as a young boi. As a teen I swore they were cheesy, but that was just my Shadow the Hedgehog edge shining thru. This track is a bit of Disco Synth Pop with a heavy bass and perfectly placed everything, perfect for listeners with mad OCD, like me."
22Soundtrack (Video Game)
EarthBound

"Otherworldly Foe" (added by Trifolium) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3z5SixXvic
23Waichiro Ozaki & Hiroshi Tanabe

"Lost My Heart in Republic City" (added by Pangea) https://youtu.be/lDdIKnk5mVg
26Pete Townshend
The Iron Man: The Musical

"Dig" (added by Divaman) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As-SmW0E0cc
27Soundtrack (Video Game)
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd

"Overdosing Heavenly Bliss" (added by Metalrain) https://youtu.be/BUFqkmB5SSA

"Falcom is well known for their RPG soundtracks, Sky the 3rd being my favorite. This track just feels badass, best battle theme in the game."
28Apparat
The Devil's Walk

"Goodbye" from Dark (added by Scheumke) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66VnOdk6oto

"Yes it has a lot of views, but it's pretty niche and from a relatively new German series so I think there might be a lot of peops here who haven't seen/heard it. It's a fantastic title track that works perfectly with arguably the best TV show I've ever seen."
29Daniel OlsƩn
Sayonara Wild Hearts

"The World We Knew" (added by DivergentThinking) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFhaGeP1ezc

As I said earlier, I'm kinda kicking myself for not making this my original entry. Sayonara Wild Hearts is one of the most underrated games of the last decade and one of my favorite games of all time, and the soundtrack plays a massive part in that. This song in particular is a gorgeous synthpop ballad rife with layered vocals and sweeping electronic soundscapes. Awesome stuff.
30Soundtrack (Television)
Trapped OST

"Andri's Theme" (added by Fogza) https://youtu.be/dDLvcmg5wcQ
31Angelo Badalamenti
