Doof recent digs

Simple list title, reason for the list? Heading on muh Easter hols to Lanzarote next week so not going to be around as much next three weeks (or listening to much new music). List is in order of greatness with marks out of 5 provided, will limit to 30 entries.
1Cat Power
Moon Pix

[4.9/5]

Favourite discovery of the last three months, and my favourite 'female artist' album of all time. A little bit of a Bill Callahan influence in there and oh boy is this thing depressive.
2Midnight Choir
Amsterdam Stranded

[4.9/5]

A second 1998 album pick, what a coincidence - this one was rec'd by Boney so hats off, you win the list. Ready for hyperbole time? Better than 'Grace'! 1998 is threatening to overtake 1994 as my favourite ever...
3Mark Renner
Few Traces

[4.8/5]

Great comp of primarily '80s material that ranges between lo-fi synth pop to ramshackle ambient and all sorts of other stuff too. His albums are also worth your time.
4A.A.L. (Against All Logic)
2012-2017

[4.9]

Ok, I've already ordered this wrong. Moving on...this is great, check my soundoff and contributions to the thread to see why I think so. Plus read Eds review of course.
5Neko Case
Blacklisted

[4.4]

Another good Boney rec, I'd tried another Case album before and wasn't too impressed but this is something else.
6Djeli Moussa Diawara
Yasimika

[4.5]

The best album I found during my brief Afro binge of January.
7David Byrne
American Utopia

[4.3]

Sounds a bit more Talking Heads-y and less chamber orchestra-y which is all good by me and makes this my fave Byrne solo. Ok, half the songs are a lot better than the other half but it's all good.
8Telefon Tel Aviv
Fahrenheit Fair Enough

[4.5]

Mellow glitchy 'I-guess-it's-IDM' that's really intricate AND really soothing all at once. Might even be underrating who knows. Found this droning AnimalAsSummit's ratings.
9Rolo Tomassi
Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It

[4.3]

Keep starting listening to this and thinking 3.5-4 but the middle-to-end stretch is sublime.
10The Necks
Drive By

[4.5]

Got this one from Zak's ratings - a slowly evolving instrumental beaut.
11Gillian Welch
Time (The Revelator)

[4.3]

Another Boney/Zak rating find, solid female-vox rustic country.
12********
The Drink

[4.1]

Yes, annoying bandname - this is a very bizarre release - well more a re-release of a 'youtube only' album. Endearingly DIY.
13Built to Spill
Keep It Like a Secret

[4.0]

Don't like it quite as much as the other one. Still good. Not as good as Modest Mouse. Sold.
14Calexico
Feast of Wire

[4.1]

Favourite Calexico so far.
15can
Ege Bamyasi

[4.4]

Forgot this. Real good. 'Vitamin C' alone is a 4 rating.
16Alex Cameron
Forced Witness

[4.0]

Probably put this on other lists but this is still great, f*ck the Andrew WK this is the comedy album of the last 6 months.
17Carbon Based Lifeforms
World Of Sleepers

[4.0]

Listening to a lot of ambient and psybient? even, I enjoy it, not sure how it rates against other psybient?
18cell
Hanging Masses

[4.1]

Another AAS rec, impressed me but only managed one full listen so far.
19Dogwood Tales
Too Hard to Tell

[3.9]

Very welcome alt country Vaxi rec, these boys could fill the Richmond Fontaine hole..if needed...
20Richmond Fontaine
Don’t Skip Out on Me

[3.8]

...or not if this is marks a return. Probably a one off instrumental album. Check my review.
21No Age
Snares Like A Haircut

[4.0]

Solid bit of '90s alt worship.
22Hookworms
Microshift

[3.8]

Seem to like this more than most, bit of 2009 AnCo in the mix, solid.
23Turnstile
Time and Space

[3.9]

Guilty pleasure I guess :/

Even a little 'Nevermind' magic here from time to time.
24Richard Hawley
Truelove's Gutter

[3.8]

I'm obsessed with 'Open up Your Door' right now, good to have a more 'indie' crooning choice than your Sinatra's all the time.
25E Ruscha V
Who Are You

[3.8]

I mean this is just a sweet slightly tropical electronic near-ambient album, I dig it in an undemanding way.
26Iron And Wine
The Creek Drank the Cradle

[4.1]

A little underrated I feel, might enjoy this more than 'For Emma'. Maybe.
27Laurie Anderson and Kronos Quartet
Landfall

[3.6]

A little obsessed with the album centerpiece here - 'Nothing Left but their Names'. I'm feeling apocalyptic and so having an Ent muse about time, dinosaurs, yoga class, human language and our impending extinction just appeals. Far worse ways you could spend 10 minutes today than spinning that tune...
28Hot Snakes
Jericho Sirens

[3.8]

I like them, I don't think this is their best album but its tight and they retain a sort of rawness I approve of.
29Anna von Hausswolff
Dead Magic

[4.2]

Close to that 4.5/5 bump, this is the step up from her I was hoping for.
30Totally Mild
Down Time

[3.5]

Mainly here for those legs, 'Money or Fame' is a stunning tune too.
31Blue Men
I Hear a New World

[4.9]

I really screwed up the order...and I've gone over 30 entries. This is the start of everything. Just listen.
32Essaie Pas
New Path

[3.8]

Loosely based on 'A Scanner Darkly' and a bit French...does that make it ponce-y? Actually surprisingly good.
33Saccharine Trust
Paganicons

[4.1]

Only listened because it's one of the only things Cyclotron has rated a 5...annoyingly it's pretty great, esp 'I am Right'.
34Caroline Says
50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong

[3.4]

Checked the new release first but liked this more.
35Stick In The Wheel
Follow Them True

[3.8]

Forgot this too, some more folk, sounds authentic...but is it? Hopefully
36Rhye
Blood

[3.3]

It's alright.
37Bonny Doon
Bonny Doon

[3.6]

Another one I tried the new release but the prevous release was better. Pavement/Silver Jews rip off but I like it - sort of a sunnier more disposable version so cool.
38Protus Opus
Screaming Eagle

[4.0]

anatelier rec, only just getting into it but one of my favourite electronic releases of 2018 so far
39S. Carey
Hundred Acres

[3.6]

Pretty.
40Wasuremono
Something Left Behind

[3.7]

Another quality anatelier rec, check the last three tunes as a taster.
41Ed Schrader's Music Beat
Riddles

[3.9]

Another winning anatelier rec, not sure this is my favourite of the three albums I've tried, but this has some bite to it.
42Salif Keita
Moffou

[4.0]

Damn, forgot this too, by turns haunting and funky afro folk. 'Iniagige' is perfect.
43Tribulation
The Children of the Night

[3.6]

Preferred this to the new one, 'Melancholia' goes hard.
