11.29.17 | 7 and 16 are awesome
i tried 23 and couldn't really get into it |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | 7 in particular really impressed me yeah, awesome discog |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | The list dropped the sakamoto and kauan entries -so Big Thief we’re supposed to be entry 25...and if I’m honest making up the numbers a little bit. Some good individual songs from them though. |
zakalwe
11.29.17 | I found a few of these this year as well.
Doof and Zak 4 life. |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | Doof and Zak 4 life [2]
Also check 21’s Doof soundoff and give the first tune on that album a go Zak :D |
CompostCompote
11.29.17 | 18 is good? |
butcherboy
11.29.17 | listening to 1 now, and it's damn good.. the sort of ultra-classy singer/songwriter stuff that when I like it reminds me I'm growing sophisticated despite my best efforts to the contrary.. |
theBoneyKing
11.29.17 | Good stuff Doof, I may do a similar list myself.
Was listening to 5 this morning, got "Hell Is an Open Door" stuck in my head currently...a tune and a half, that one |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | Compost - bullshit is a term of endearment here
Butch - album is a real grower too.
Also, you’re the same user, why am I responding to you separately...! |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | Boney - they’re so great, I really want to purchase physical copies of most of their discog next year |
Papa Universe
11.29.17 | some truly goodie goods here |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | Some Unique faves here yup, I'll binge listen to the discog for 12 at some point in 2018 |
SandwichBubble
11.29.17 | As always, good stuff ;) |
BeyondCosby
11.29.17 | Hell yeah for Kauan.
|
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | Cosby, have to say I'm sometimes suspicious of post-rock championed on this site...but Kauan have won me over. |
bgillesp
11.29.17 | 11 looks cool. Needs Rainbow Kitten Surprise |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | Already noticed that bandname popping up here bgillesp, will check them |
Atari
11.29.17 | cool. I'm really digging the new Aimee Mann album, will have to check this one as well
also enjoy Big Thief and Kauan. just heard the new Elder (USA-MA) yesterday and it wasn't bad |
Divaman
11.29.17 | Nice to see 8 here. |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | Ha, yeah Diva, it seems Aimee has made her sput breakthrough this year |
StarlessCore
11.29.17 | elder sucks and is boring trash y dont u like chief keef
raincoats r cute af tho |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | Chief Keef is growing on me...just at the speed of a glacier is all |
theBoneyKing
11.29.17 | Liking Chief Keef is just a meme right? |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | No one could function as a meme for this long though, could they? There must be some substance to him? A sput enigma. |
theBoneyKing
11.29.17 | I'm the wrong person to ask because if you ask me liking rap in general is just a meme |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | Well, I think you have to acknowledge that can't be the case.
You don't even Wu-Tang? Damn. |
StarlessCore
11.29.17 | @doof https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWXaLS-9H10
not a bad list tho (the few i know)
cows r lit |
theBoneyKing
11.29.17 | I don't seriously fuck with any rap and I'm not inclined to try. Just don't feel like I need that kind of stuff in my life, it doesn't really appeal to any of the qualities I appreciate in music. |
sixdegrees
11.29.17 |
|
sixdegrees
11.29.17 | exactly the comment section I expected from a wainwright list |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | Starless listening now, you know I used to not even be able to get beyond a gut reaction to reject the auto tune and the repetition, but like I said I have been listening to quite a lot of Chief Keef this year...it's like I am adapting to it, appreciating it a bit more, maybe one day I'll totally get it. There's a level of intrigue with him, on that level at least I'm committed to following him to at least some degree. |
sixdegrees
11.29.17 | ah yes
favorite Chieftain Keith release thus far? |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | I wouldn't go as far as to say anything approaches a 'favourite' but I preferred 'The W' to 'Thot Breaker'. I've dipped into the early albums a bit. He's not heavy rotation in the slightest, just a lurking influence so far. Open minded and all that. |
StarlessCore
11.29.17 | yea i was kinda the same, huge hip hop fan in general who couldnt really get into trap and now i luv it
u gotta not view it as traditional hip hop. sosa about flow, melody, fun, delivery of violent imagery, not message or lyrical precision https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7efqxKSeO0
ud be pleased to know i was spinning nixon 2day at work for a bit, havent in ages
|
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | 'Nixon' is a classic, you need to make sure you aren't sleeping on the rest of their discog though, they're one of the best |
StarlessCore
11.29.17 | their hit and miss for me. havent heard all of it but yea that record is legittt |
Divaman
11.29.17 | Amusingly enough, the front page of the site shows new comments made to this list as going to "Doof's Top 25 'New Artist' Dis". Keep dissing those new artists, Doof! |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.17 | I do diss new artists a lot, just look at all dem 1/5 ratings |
Divaman
11.29.17 | True. |
LeftyMcRighty
11.30.17 | Lotta good listening here.
Have you checked out "Presents the Holy Strangers" by Micah P. Hinson? It's mostly like his other stuff but this right here...
https://youtu.be/fTTKDyTy930
It is like a weird, dark sermon. I feel like it really needs a Wu-Tang edit. |
Dewinged
11.30.17 | Some good finds here doofus. I already knew 7 but their latest is amazing and 13 was a new jam for me too, and loved it. |
DoofusWainwright
11.30.17 | Know it well Lefty, in fact that's the album of his I now know best, I just avoided selecting any 2017 albums for this list to show it's a 'artist' ranking, not a 2017 album ranking.
I like the spoken word track, not always in the mood for it, but usually I like it. Not sure what Method Man could bring to it but I' be open for the Wu to take their swords to it. |
LeftyMcRighty
11.30.17 | Yeah, you definitely gotta be in the mood for it. LOL |
